Pastor’s Note We have some awesome mothers. They have fed us, clothed us, educated us, nursed us and loved us. What is the most fitting re-sponse to such love? Give God thanks. Bring your mother to Mass this weekend and pre-sent her a flower and a blessing. All Masses this weekend will include a floral gift and a special Mother’s Day blessing. We will also remember all the deceased mothers and grandmothers. Donations in honor of these great women can be made at the parish of-fice or our parish website. This Thursday, May 13 our parish will wel-come a specially commissioned statue of Our Lady of Fatima, thanks to some generous donors and our seminarian Pedro Jose who will be returning from Fatima. At 7PM there will be a special Mass followed by a Proces-sion. Our Lady of Fatime has protected her children from the Spanish flu last century and the COVID pandemic this century. We should give thanks (that’s my mom at Fatima when we visited in 2016). Read on for the many happenings here at your SJV home, including the return of the Parish Fiesta!

Tenemos algunas madres increíbles. Nos han ali-mentado, vestido, educado, amamantado y amado. ¿Cuál es la respuesta más adecuada a tal amor? Darle gracias a Dios. OUR LADY OF FATIMA Our seminarian PJ is bringing from Fatima (Portugal) the image of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima and the three shepherds (Lucia, Jacinta and Francisco). Faith Formation Registrations are now open online. Please visit our website where you will be able to ei-ther print or fill out our online forms in order to register your children to First Communion preparation and Confirmation programs. Please note you will need to submit the following documents: Baptismal Certificate for child being registered, tuition fee 1st year students are $100 and 2nd year students is $120. What kind of day are you having today? Are you happy, or are you sad? What are some of the things that make you happy? Here are some things I thought of that might make you happy: *A sunny day *A party *A new toy *A puppy *An ice cream cone *A balloon *Spending time with a friend What are some things that make you sad? *Falling down and skinning your knee *When you miss someone *Making a bad grade in school *Feeling all alone *Losing your favorite toy *Having an argument with your best friend *When someone says something that hurts your feelings When you think about things that make you happy and things that make you sad, it is pretty simple. When something good happens, you are happy and when something bad happens, you are sad. Do you think Je-sus wants you to be happy? Listen to what Jesus said in our Bible reading for today, "I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow!" (John 15:9, 11 NLT) Does that mean that nothing bad will ever happen in your life? No, of course not, but even when you are sad, you can still have joy in your heart because you know that Jesus loves you. Heavenly Father, we know that you love your Son and that your Son loves us. LA LLAMADA Y LA CAUSA DEL AMOR
El amor nos llama y nos hace hacer cosas gran-des, más de las que nos creemos capaces. THE PRESENCE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
We have a unique episode in the Acts of the
Apostles today. A whole roomful of people are bap-
tized with the Holy Spirit before they are baptized
with water! The verb used—“the Holy Spirit
‘fell’ on them” (Acts 10:44)—is characteristic of
the way the Spirit works throughout the book of
Acts: powerful and surprising. Though this
“baptism” is not the normative way the New
Testament describes baptism, it is still a good
reminder today that the Holy Spirit is not con-
trolled by whether or not we pour water, but ra-
ther that our sacramental signs reveal the pres-
ence of the Spirit at work among us. And we
have a double reinforcement of how this work is ac-
complished from a Letter and a Gospel bearing John’s
name. It is love, self-sacrificing and self-giving love,
that manifests the Spirit of Jesus in our midst. It is
love that is the greatest of commandments. The Spirit
is manifested equally through those who live in that
