Indeed you [you] have wronged yourselves by your taking the calf. So turn in repentance to your Creator, and kill yourselves. That (is) better for you with your Creator.` Then He turned towards you. Indeed He! He (is) the Oft-returning, the Most Merciful. 54 And when you said, `O Musa! Never will we believe you until we see Allah manifestly.` So seized you the thunderbolt while you (were) looking. 55 Then We revived you after your death, so that you may (be) grateful. 56 And We shaded [over] you (with) [the] clouds and We sent down to you [the] manna and [the] quails, `Eat from (the) good things that We have provided you.` And not they wronged Us, but they were (to) themselves doing wrong. 57 And when We said, `Enter this town, then eat from [it] wherever you wish[ed] abundantly, and enter the gate prostrating. And say, `Repentance,` We will forgive for you your sins. And We will increase Surah 2: The cow (v. 53-58) Part - 1 might be grateful. 53. And (recall) when We gave Musa the Book (Taurat) and the Criterion (of right and wrong) that perhaps you would be guided. 54. And (recall) when Musa said to his people, `O my people! Indeed you have wronged yourselves by taking the calf (for worship). So turn in repentance to your Creator and kill yourselves. That is best for you in the sight of your Creator.` Then He accepted your repentance. Indeed, He is the Oft-returning (to mercy), the Most Merciful. 55. And when you said, `O Musa! We will never believe you until we see Allah manifestly,` so the thunderbolt seized you while you were looking on. 56. Then We revived you after your death, so that you might be grateful. 57. And We shaded you with clouds and sent down to you manna and quails. Eat from the good things, which We have provided you. And they did not wrong Us, but they were doing wrong to themselves. 58. And when We said, `Enter this town and eat abundantly from wherever you wish, and enter the gate bowing humbly and say, `Repentance,` We will forgive your sins for you. And We will increase

so that you may(be) grateful. 52 And when We gave Musa the Book

� �� and the Criterion, perhaps you (would be) guided. 53 And when said

Musa to his people, O my people!Indeed you[you] have wronged yourselves

� by your taking the calf. So turn in repentance to your Creator, and kill

yourselves. That (is) better for you with your Creator.` Then He turned

towards you. Indeed He! He (is) the Oft-returning, the Most Merciful. 54

� And when you said,`O Musa!Never willwe believe you until we see

Allahmanifestly.` So seized you the thunderbolt while you (were) looking. 55

� Then We revived you after your death, so that you may (be) grateful.

�� � 56And We shaded [over] you (with) [the] clouds and We sent down to you

[the] mannaand [the] quails, Eat from (the) good things that

�� We have provided you.` And not they wronged Us, but they were (to) themselves

doing wrong. 57 And when We said, Enter this town, then eat

from [it] wherever you wish[ed] abundantly, and enter the gate prostrating.

And say,`Repentance,` We will forgive for you your sins. And We will increase

might be grateful.

53. And (recall) whenWe gave Musa theBook (Taurat) and theCriterion (of right andwrong) that perhapsyou would be guided.

54. And (recall) whenMusa said to hispeople, `O my people!Indeed you havewronged yourselves bytaking the calf (forworship). So turn inrepentance to yourCreator and killyourselves. That is bestfor you in the sight ofyour Creator.` ThenHe accepted yourrepentance. Indeed, Heis the Oft-returning (tomercy), the MostMerciful.

55. And when you said,`O Musa! We willnever believe you untilwe see Allahmanifestly,` so thethunderbolt seized youwhile you were lookingon.

56. Then We revived youafter your death, so thatyou might be grateful.

57. And We shaded youwith clouds and sentdown to you mannaand quails. Eat from thegood things, which Wehave provided you.And they did not wrongUs, but they were doingwrong to themselves.

58. And when We said,`Enter this town and eatabundantly fromwherever you wish, andenter the gate bowinghumbly and say,`Repentance,` We willforgive your sins foryou. And We willincrease

the good-doers (in reward).` 58 But changed those who wronged (the) word

other (than) that which was said to them; so We sent down upon those who

wronged, a punishment from the sky because they were defiantly disobeying.

� 59 And when Musa asked for water for his people, [so] We said, Strike

� � with your staff the stone.` Then gushed forth from it twelve springs.

� Knew all (the) people their drinking place. Eat and drink

from the provision of Allah, and (do) not act wickedly in the earth

� �� spreading corruption.` 60 And when you said, O Musa! Never will

� we endure [on] food(of) one (kind), so pray for us (to) your Lord to bring forth

� for us out of what grows the earth, of its herbs, [and] its cucumbers,

� [and] its garlic, [and] its lentils, and its onions.` He said, Would you exchange

that which [it] (is) inferior for that which [it](is) better? Go down to a city,

so indeed for you what you have asked (for).` And were struck on them

� the humiliation and the misery and they drew on themselves wrath of Allah

That (was) because they used to disbelieve in the Signs of Allah

Surah 2: The cow (v. 59-61) Part - 1

the good-doers (inreward).`

59. But those whowronged changed thewords from that whichhad been said to themfor another; so We sentdown upon thewrongdoers apunishment from thesky because they weredefiantly disobeying.

60. And when Musaasked for water for hispeople, We said,Strike the stone with

your staff. Thentwelve springs gushedforth from it. All thepeople (of the twelvetribes) knew theirdrinking place. Eatand drink from theprovisions of Allah,and do not act wickedlyon the earth spreadingcorruption.`

61. And when you said,O Musa! We can never

endure one (kind of)food. So pray to yourLord to bring forth forus out of what the earthgrows, its herbs, itscucumbers, its garlic,its lentils, and itsonions. He said,Would you exchange

that which is better forthat which is inferior?Go down to (any) cityand indeed you willhave what you haveasked for. Andhumiliation and miserywere struck upon themand they drew onthemselves the wrath ofAllah. That wasbecause they used todisbelieve in the Signsof Allah

and kill the Prophets without (any) [the] right. That(was) because

they disobeyed and [they] were transgressing. 61 Indeed, those who believed

and those who became Jews and the Christians and the Sabians - who believed

in Allah and the Day [the] Last and did righteous deeds, so for them (is) their reward

with their Lord and no fear on them and not they will grieve. 62

And when We took your covenant and We raised over you the mount, Hold

� what We have given you with strength, and remember what (is) in it, perhaps you

� �(would) become righteous. 63 Then you turned away after

� that. So if not (for) the Grace of Allah upon you and His Mercy,

indeed you would have been of the losers. 64 And indeed, you knew

� � those who transgressed among you in the (matter of) Sabbath. So We said to them,

Be apes, despised.` 65 So We made it a deterrent punishment for those

� � (in) front of them and those after them and an admonition for those who fear (Allah).

� � �� � 66 And when Musa said to his people, Indeed, Allahcommands you

thatyou slaughter a cow.` They said, Do you take us(in) ridicule.` He said,

Surah 2: The cow (v. 62-67) Part - 1�

and kill the Prophetswithout any right. Thatwas because theydisobeyed and weretransgressing.

62. Indeed, those whobelieved, and thosewho became Jews, andthe Christians, and theSabians - who believedin Allah and the LastDay and did righteousdeeds, will have theirreward with their Lord;no fear will be on them,nor will they grieve.

63. And when We tookyour covenant, and Weraised above you themount (saying), Holdfirmly that which Wehave given you, andremember what is in it,perhaps you wouldbecome righteous.`

64. Then even after thatyou turned away. Hadit not been for theGrace and Mercy ofAllah upon you, indeedyou would have beenamong the losers.

65. And indeed, youknew those amongstyou who transgressedin the matter of theSabbath. So We said tothem, Be apes,despised.`

66. And We made it adeterrent punishmentfor those who werepresent and those whosucceeded them and anadmonition for thosewho fear Allah.

67. And when Musa saidto his people, Indeed,Allah commands you toslaughter a cow, theysaid, Do you take usin ridicule? He said,

I seek refuge in Allah that I be amongthe ignorant.` 67 They said,

Pray for us(to) your Lord to make clear to us whatit (is).` He said, Indeed, He

says, [Indeed] it(is) a cownot old and not young, middle aged between

that,` so do whatyou are commanded.` 68 They said,Pray for us

(to) your Lord to make clear to us what(is) its color.` He said,Indeed, He says,

[Indeed] it is a cow yellow, bright(in) its color,pleasing

(to) those who see (it).` 69 They said, Prayfor us (to) your Lord

to make clear to uswhatit (is). Indeed, [the] cows look alike to us.

�� And indeed we, if wills Allah, (will) surely be [those who are] guided.` 70

� ��� He said, Indeed, He says, [Indeed] it (is) a cow not trained to plough the earth,

and not water the field; sound, no blemish in it.` They said, Now

you have come with the truth.` So they slaughtered it, and not they were near

�� (to) doing (it). 71 And when you killed a man, then you disputed concerning it,

but Allah (is) [the One Who] brought forth what you were concealing. 72

� � So We said, Strike him with a part of it.` Like this Allah revives the dead,

Surah 2: The cow (v. 68-73) Part - 1

I seek refuge in Allahfrom being among theignorant.`

68. They said, Pray toyour Lord to makeclear to us what it is.`He (Musa) said, Hesays, It is a cowneither old nor young,but of middle agebetween the two, sodo what you arecommanded.`

69. They said, Pray toyour Lord to makeclear to us its color.`He (Musa) said, Hesays, It is a yellowcow, bright in color,pleasing to those whosee it.`

70. They said, Pray toyour Lord to makeclear to us what it is.Indeed, all cows lookalike to us. Andindeed, if Allah wills,we will surely beguided.

71. He (Musa) said,He says, it is a cow

neither trained toplough the earth norwater the field; sound,with no blemish on it.`They said, Now youhave come with thetruth. So theyslaughtered it, thoughthey were near to notdoing it.

72. And (recall) whenyou killed a man anddisputed concerning it,but Allah brought forththat which you wereconcealing.

73. So We said, Strikehim with a part of it.`Thus Allah revives thedead,

and shows you His Signs, perhaps you(may) use your intellect. 73

� � Then hardened your hearts after that so they(became) like [the] stones or

� stronger(in) hardness. And indeed, fromthe stones certainly (there are some) which

� gush forth from it [the] rivers, and indeed, from them certainly (there are some) which

split, so comes out from it [the] water, and indeed, from them

� certainly (there are some) which fall down for fear of Allah.And Allah (is) not

� unaware of what you do. 74 Do you hope that they will believe

� [for] youwhile indeed (there) has been a partyof them,(who used to) hear

� � the words of Allah, then they distort it after [what] they understood it,

while theyknow? 75 And when they meet those who believe[d],

they say, We have believed.` But when meet in private some of them

� � � with some (others), they say, Do you tell them what Allah has revealed to you

so that they argue with you therewith before your Lord? Do (you) then not

� understand?` 76 Do not they know that Allah knows what

they conceal and what they declare? 77 And among them (are) unlettered ones,

and shows you HisSigns, perhaps youmay use your intellect.

74. Then (even afterthat) your heartshardened like stones oreven worse inhardness. And indeed,there are stones fromwhich rivers gushforth, and indeed, thereare some of them (i.e.,the stones) which splitasunder and waterflows from them, andindeed, there are someof them (i.e., thestones) which falldown for fear of Allah.And Allah is notunaware of what youdo.

75. Do you hope (Obelievers!) that theywould believe youwhile indeed a party ofthem used to hear thewords of Allah andthen distort it afterthey had understood it,knowingly?

76. And when they meetthose who believe,they say, We havebelieved. But whenthey are alone with oneanother, they say, Doyou tell them whatAllah has revealed toyou so that they(might) use it inargument against youbefore your Lord? Doyou not thenunderstand?`

77. Do they not knowthat Allah knows whatthey conceal and whatthey declare?

78. And among them areunlettered (i.e.,illiterate) people

ÏÏ��-��¨ÂÂì즦óó¦�¦�¨°°��ÇÇ 15 ÎÎ��-��ööººóó¦¦ � (who) do not know the book except wishful thinking and not they

� (do anything) except guess. 78 So woe to those who write

� � the book with their (own) hands then, they say, This (is) from Allah,`

to barter with it (for) a price little. So woe to them for what have written

their hands and woe to them for what they earn. 79 And they say,

Never will touch us the Fire except (for) days numbered.` Say,

� � Have you taken from Allah a covenant, so never will Allah break

His Covenant? Or (do) you say against Allah what not you know?` 80

� Yes, whoever earned eviland surrounded him his sins - [so] those

(are) the companions of the Fire; they in it(will) abide forever. 81

� And those who believed and did righteous deeds, those (are) the companions

of Paradise; they in it(will) abide forever. 82 And when We took

� � the covenant (from) the Children (of) Israel, You will not worship except Allah,

� and with [the] parents (be) good and (with) relatives and [the] orphans

and the needy, and speak to [the] people good, and establish the prayer

Surah 2: The cow (v. 79-83) Part - 1

who do not know theBook except (seetherein their own)wishful thinking, andthey do nothing butguess.

79. So woe to those whowrite the book withtheir own hands, thensay, This is fromAllah, to exchange itfor a little price. Sowoe to them for whattheir hands havewritten and woe tothem for what theyearn.

80. And they say,Never will the Fire

touch us except for afew days. Say, Haveyou taken a covenantfrom Allah, so thatAllah will never breakHis Covenant? Or doyou say against Allahthat which you do notknow?`

81. Yes, (on thecontrary) whoeverearns evil and his sinshave surrounded him -those are thecompanions of theFire; they will abide init forever.

82. And those whobelieve and dorighteous deeds, thoseare the companions ofParadise; they willabide in it forever.

83. And (recall) whenWe took the covenantfrom the Children ofIsrael (saying), Do notworship except Allah,and be good to parents,relatives, orphans andthe needy, and speakgood to people andestablish the prayer

ÏÏ��-��¨ÂÂì즦óó¦�¦�¨°°��ÇÇ 16 ÎÎ��-��ööººóó¦¦ � and give the zakah.` Then you turned away, except a fewof you,

� and you (were) refusing. 83 And when We took your covenant,

� � � You will not shed your bloodand (will) not evict yourselves from your homes,`

then you ratified while you(were) witnessing. 84 Then you (are) those

� (who) kill yourselves and evict a party of you from their homes,

� [you] support one another against them in sin and [the] transgression. And if

� they come to you(as) captives, you ransom them; while it (was) forbidden to you

their eviction. So do you believe in part of the Book and disbelieve

in part? Then what (should be the) recompense (for the one) who does

that among you, except disgracein the life(of) the world;

and (on the) Day of [the] Resurrection they will be sent back to(the) most severe

� punishment?And Allah (is) not unaware of what you do. 85Those

(are) the ones who boughtthe life(of) the world for the Hereafter; so not

will be lightened for them the punishment and not they will be helped. 86

� � And indeed We gave Musa the Book and We followed upafter him

Surah 2: The cow (v. 84-87) Part - 1

and give the zakah.`Then you turned away,except a few of you,and you were refusing.

84. And when We tookyour covenant, Do notshed your (i.e., eachother s) blood or evictyourselves (oneanother) from yourhomes. Then youratified while you werewitnessing.

85. Then you are those(same ones) who killone another and evict aparty of you from theirhomes, support oneanother against themin sin andtransgression. And ifthey come to you ascaptives, you ransomthem; while theireviction (itself) wasforbidden to you. Sodo you believe in partof the Book anddisbelieve in (another)part? Then whatshould be therecompense for thosewho do so among youexcept disgrace inworldly life; and onthe Day ofResurrection they willbe sent back to themost severepunishment? AndAllah is not unawareof what you do.

86. Those are the oneswho have bought thelife of this world (inexchange) for theHereafter; so thepunishment will not belightened for them, norwill they be helped.

87. And indeed We gaveMusa the Book andWe followed him upwith (a succession of)

with [the] Messengers. And We gave Isa the son of Maryam [the] clear signs

� ��� and We supported him with the Holy Spirit. Is it (not) so (that) whenever came to you

� � a Messenger with what (do) not desireyourselves, you acted arrogantly?So a party

you denied, and a party you kill(ed). 87 And they said, Our hearts

� � (are) wrapped.` Nay,Allah has cursed themfor their disbelief; so little (is) that which

� ��

they believe. 88 And when came to them a Book from Allah

� � confirmingwhat (was) with them, though they used tobefore (that), pray for victory

over those who disbelieved - then when came to them whatthey recognized,

they disbelieved in it. So the curse of Allah(is) on the disbelievers. 89

� �

Evil (is) thatfor which they have sold themselves, that they disbelieve in what

���

Allah has revealed, grudging that Allah sends down of His Grace on whom

� �

He wills fromHis servants. So they have drawn (on themselves) wrath upon

wrath. And for the disbelievers (is) a punishment humiliating. 90 And when

� �

(it) is saidto them, Believe in what Allah has revealed,` they say, We believe

in what was revealed to us.` And they disbelieve in what (is) besides it, while it

��Messengers. And Wegave Isa, the son ofMaryam, clear signs andsupported him with theHoly Spirit. Is it not so,that whenever therecame to you aMessenger with whatyou yourselves did notdesire, you actedarrogantly? So a party(of Messengers) youdenied and anotherparty you killed.

88. And they said, Ourhearts are wrapped.`Nay, Allah has cursedthem for their disbelief;so little is that whichthey believe.

89. And when there cameto them a Book(Qur an) from Allahconfirming what waswith them, thoughbefore that they used topray for victory overdisbelievers - then whenthere came to them thatwhich they recognized,they disbelieved in it.So the curse of Allah ison the disbelievers.

90. Evil is that for whichthey have soldthemselves, that theydisbelieved in whatAllah has revealed,grudging that Allahsends down of HisGrace upon whom Hewills from among Hisservants. So they havedrawn on themselveswrath upon wrath. Andfor the disbelievers is ahumiliating punishment.

91. And when it is said tothem, Believe in whatAllah has revealed,`they say, We believe(only) in what wasrevealed to us. Andthey disbelieve in whatcame after it, while it is

(is) the truth confirming what (is) with them. Say, Then why (did) you kill

� �

the Prophets of Allah before, if you were believers?` 91

And indeed came to you Musa with [the] clear signs, yet you took the calf

after him and you (were) wrongdoers. 92 And when We took

your covenant and We raised over you the mount, Hold what

We gave you, with firmness and listen.` They said, We heard

� and we disobeyed.` And they were made to drink in their hearts (love of) the calf

� �

because of their disbelief. Say,Evil (is) thatorders you (to do) it your faith, if

you are believers.` 93 Say, If - is for you the home

� �

of the Hereafter with Allah exclusively, excluding the mankind, then wish

� (for) [the] death, if you aretruthful.` 94 And never will

they wish for it, ever, because (of what) sent ahead their hands. And Allah

�(is) All-Knower of the wrongdoers. 95 And surely you will find them

the most greedy of [the] mankind for life, and (greedier) than those who

associate[d] partners (with Allah). Loves (each) one of them if

the truth confirmingthat which is withthem. Say, Thenwhy did you kill theProphets of Allahbefore, if you werebelievers?`

92. And indeed Mosescame to you withclear signs, yet youtook the calf (inworship) after he left,and you werewrongdoers.

93. And when We tookyour covenant andWe raised above youthe mount, Holdfirmly what We gaveyou and listen, theysaid, We heard andwe disobeyed. Andthey were made toimbibe (the love of)the calf into theirhearts because oftheir disbelief. Say,Evil is that which

your faith orders you,if you are believers.`

94. Say, If the home ofthe Hereafter withAllah is exclusivelyfor you and not forothers of mankind,then wish for death, ifyou are truthful.`

95. And they willnever wish for it,ever, because ofwhat their hands havesent ahead (i.e., theirdeeds). And Allah isKnowing of thewrongdoers.

96. And you will surelyfind them the mostgreedy of mankindfor life, and (evengreedier) than thosewho associatepartners with Allah.Each one of themloves
