Back in 2007 as Lil Wayne’s tour van was leaving Beacon Theater in New York, many people were talking about how the van smelled like marijuana. The police began searching the vehicle only to find Lil Wayne smoking weed, along with others in the van. During the police search, the artist was also found holding possession of a handgun. He was charged for both drugs and for the possession of a loaded weapon. Unfortunately this event was not only a one time thing. Lil Wayne has a history of drug and weapon possession. Lil Wayne is not ashamed of confessing that he enjoys smoking weed, and he especially expresses this through a majority of his songs. He told the audience on a CBS show that he uses marijuana for recreational purposes. Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr., born on September 27, 1982, better known by his stage name Lil Wayne, is questionably the best American rapper alive. He grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana, and wrote his first rap song at the young age of eight. When he was 12, he began getting involved in drugs and crime, after accidentally shooting himself with a .44 caliber gun

He then dropped out of the school at 14, and started to transform from Dwayne Michael carter, into Lil Wayne. As Wayne became more serious about the rap game and started to wear gang-affiliate attire, his mother became concerned about her son. She pulled Wayne out of the band that he was trying to make it big with, and tried to get him to come back home. However, after running away from home for a week and convincing his mother that his erratic behavior had nothing to do with the band, she eventually agreed with his lifestyle, and supported his new life. Lil Wayne pleaded guilty to felony gun charges in October, and it was pronounced recently in Manhattan Criminal Court that his jail term will likely begin on February 9th, 2010. Wayne didn’t say one word during his short appearance in Manhattan State court, and it is still unknown where Wayne will serve his time. This day will be bittersweet for the artist because the same day he will be sentenced is the same day his album Rebirth is scheduled for release. Page 1

Wayne will serve between eight months and a full year in prison because police found a loaded 9mm handgun on his tour bus during a routine stop, and was also charged with the possession of illegal drugs. Even though Wayne’s prison term isn’t expected to exceed a year, Lil Wayne isn’t completely clear of all his legal troubles yet. He also faces a trial for felony weapons and drug possession charges after a tour bus search in Arizona in which105 grams of marijuana, 29 grams of cocaine, 41 grams of ecstasy and a handgun was found “This is Lil Wayne going to jail. Nobody I can talk to can tell me what that’s like, I just say I’m looking forward to it,” Lil Wayne said days before he was sentenced. He also added that he didn’t believe that jail time should slow down his song making. “I’ll have an iPod and I’ll make sure they keep sending me beats,” he said. “I look at things as everything is meant to be,” Wayne said. “I know it’s an experience that I need to have if God’s putting me through it.

Lil Wayne is now the second major rapper in the span of a year to be found guilty of weapons charges. T.I. is currently serving time after being sentenced to a year and a day in prison in March 2009 after pleading guilty to weapons charges. So are these rappers really role models, as many teenagers find them to be? What type of messages do these performers give to their fans when they get involved in such dangerous and illegal activities? Many people believe that the younger generation is more prone to violence and drugs by trying to follow in the lead of the most popular artists of their time. According to Lil Wayne’s website, “The Young Money family will continue to support our artist and friend Lil Wayne in his current court case. We have worked with Wayne since he was a teenager, and have seen him grow into one of the world’s most successful hip-hop artists, with a work ethic that is second to none. Wayne has our love and commitment during this difficult time. We always have and always will stand behind him.”

On June 7, 2008, Lil Wayne’s album release concert tour kicked off in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The concert promoted his album The Carter III. Also performing at the concert were Birdman, T-Pain, and Flo-Rida. Claiming to be “the best rapper alive,” I was both excited and curious to see if he could really live up to the name. His career had really ignited in that past year yet he was still not socially accepted by many because of his vile raps along with his carefree outlook on life. First up to perform was Flo-Rida, getting the crowd pumped and ready for main performer. He performed his hit songs “Ayer,” “Right Round,” and “Elevator.” After Flo-Rida, a series of upcoming artists performed. It was a very long and carried out performance that was not enjoyable. After the upcoming performers, it was finally time for Lil Wayne to come on. The energy in the crowd was extreme.

He came out singing one of his hit songs “Got Money,” with the teen singing sensation T-Pain. Although the concert was for his new album The Carter III, he only sang three songs off the album. He sang mostly songs off his 2007 album The Drought III such as, “Sky’s the Limit”, “Hard Body,” “and Stunting Like My Daddy.” At the end of that song, Lil Wayne’s closest friend and the founder of record label Cash Money, Birdman, came on stage to perform. Together, Birdman and Lil Wayne were

unstoppable. The crowd was becoming out of control and security had to keep people from jumping onto the stage. Birdman was a huge hit and the energy in the stadium was incredible. Overall, Lil Wayne did not sing as many songs as expected, but the songs he

did sing turned out to be a huge hit. T-Pain, Birdman, and Flo-Rida were all fantastic, I just wish there would have been less of a performance from the upcoming performers. Lil Wayne’s The Carter III was a huge success and he carried on to produce and sell many more albums.

Dillon Fletcher, a senior at Wellington C. Mepham High school, thinks he has the trendiest attire around. Recently, it has been argued that his style is just plain boring. This popular teen is constantly seen wearing black t-shirts, white t-shirts, navy blue t-shirts, and occasionally dress and girl attire. The only pants that Dillon owns are his blue American Eagle jeans. This controversial issue was brought up by junior and Dillons prom date Cristina Olson who states “Wait.. don’t you wear navy shirts like.. everyday?” It has been brought to the student populations attention that Dillon just might wear the same three shirts everyday. Although Dillon might wear these Billa Bong t-

shirts all the time, sophomore Jen Pasatieri thinks Dillon looks “hot.” Anthony Giamatteo was recently seen yelling and cursing about Dillons attire. He stated “All he wears is surfing brand clothes and he doesn’t even surf!” A family member that wishes to remain anonymous has told Young Money exclusively that Dillon actually only owns three t-shirts. In an attempt to “spice” up his outfits, Dillon has also been seen wearing female headbands, sunglasses, also known as “stunna shades,” as well as hats. So is Dillon Fletcher really rolling in style, or just looking dumb. Next issue we will be researching Dillons bangs. Exclusive photos of Dillon only by Young Money

The new reality television series on MTV, Jersey Shore, has became one of the most popular shows on television. It followed seven housemates during their summer spent on the Jersey Shore. The show

debuted amid large amounts of controversy regarding the use of the words “Guido/Guidette," portrayals of Italian-American stereotypes from locals because the cast members are not residents from the area. The cast included, Jenni “Jwoww” Farley, Michael “The Situation” Sorrentino, Nicole “Snooki” Palozzi,

Paul “DJ Pauly D” DelVecchio, Ronnie Ortiz-Magro, Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola and Vinny Guadagnino.

Q: How do you guys feel about your newfound reality fame? The Situation: “I’ve only been out one night since the show aired and as soon as I walked into the bar it was pretty wild. People were like, ‘Oh my god that’s him. That’s The Situation.’ And then people asked me to take pictures and stuff like that.”

Q: Will there be another season?Vinny: “Oh, of course. If America wants something like that, I’m sure we’ll be able to give it to them.”

Q: Do you find the words guido/guidette offensive?Sammi Sweetheart: “No. No. If you do see the show, you see it used in a loving or a good way. The older generation doesn’t understand. These days in New York and New Jersey a ‘guido’ is a good-looking Italian male that likes to have fun and a ‘guidette’ is a good-looking Italian girl.”

Q: Do you think that the show negatively portrays Italian-Americans?Ronnie: “This is what happens down here. It’s not a definition of the East Coast. It’s not a definition of Jersey or New York. It’s just a bunch of kids that happen to be partying and working and living together in New Jersey. Some of these people are trying to pretend like when you’re in your 20s and you’re single you don’t go out and have fun. Or you don’t go out and get a couple drinks. And when that happens you know there are gonna be a couple arguments. Life’s not perfect.”

Q: Snooki, did you confront the man that punched you?Snooki: “No I haven’t. He called me and tried to apologize, but that’s not enough. That guy is worthless, and I hope I never have to confront him again.”Q: What was your most memorable experience during the season?DJ Pauly D: “The most memorable part for me was being able to DJ at one of the hottest clubs on the shore. That was a breakthrough point for me, ever since then clubs have been calling me left and right.”

Page 10

Page 15: Young Money Entertainment

Q: JWoww, is there any tension between you and Mike after punching him?JWoww: “Not anymore, Mikes like my brother. I admit that I went a little over board when I punched him, but I just did what everyone else wanted to.” Q: What exactly is GTL, and do all “guidos,” follow it?The Situation: “GTL is what a life in the day of a guido consists of, gym, tanning, and laundry. Not every guido follows this lifestyle, but if they want to be as fresh as us, they should.”Q: Are you guys concerned with the harmful effects of all the tanning you do?Snooki: “Not at all, I mean if you want to look good you have to take those kinds of risks, you know?”Q: Do you guys think you will always be friends?Ronnie: “Of course we’ll always be friends. This show has provided us with relationships that can not be found anywhere else. I love these guys.”
