The Master’s in Interdisciplinary Communications (MIC) program here at YSU
provides you with a great mix of communication research, local and global
marketing strategies, and professional writing. This program balances in-class
learning with real out of class experience. There are many instances where
you get to work in groups to solve communication problems for organizations.
Personally, being a graduate student in the program opened the door for an
internship in Chicago for me as well. I highly recommend this program if
you’re trying to expand your knowledge in the above areas and get real life
experience while doing so.
Zach Humphries,
Teaching Award Recipient
Our MIC program is designed to help students build the analytical and
communication skills modern employers are looking for: the ability to write,
collect and analyze data to make informed business decisions, communicate
effectively, and use the most recent technologies. We teach these skills in
practical, applied research methods courses, as well as classes in marketing,
technical writing, and applied theory. Our graduates are well equipped to be
entrepreneurs, work in marketing and communications or go on to PhD.
programs.
Whether it be a teacher in the classroom, a corporate executive in the
boardroom or simply a valued team member, effective communications is
paramount for success in today’s increasingly complex and fast-moving world.
Having been behind the microphone in front of dozens of savvy reporters or
sitting with students and players who need advice, direction or a pat on the back,
it all comes down to communicating clearly, succinctly and consistently. The
most critical communication skill is listening. The new master’s degree in
Interdisciplinary Communication at YSU explores the theory and practice of
professional communication – face-to-face, written, social media, you name it.
With a cross-disciplinary approach involving communication, professional and
technical writing and marketing, the program is unique in the state of Ohio. Hope
you plan to learn more; you will not be disappointed. We’re waiting for you to join
the Penguin team.
