W elcome 2016 and Happy New Year everyone! I hope that you had a relaxing and wonderful holiday season with family & friends. I enjoyed some much needed quality family time as well. I am truly thankful for another fabulous year, both personally and professionally. I strengthened many relationships

with friends and business colleagues in the community. I continue to learn more about all that Meadville and surrounding communities have to offer.

The Chamber ended 2015 on a very positive note. Our membership grew significantly, our business after hour events proved to be a huge success with us now booking for 2017, our annual events were filled with a waiting list of people to participate or attend and we collaborated with other various organizations to bring you educational seminars through-out the year. We hope to continue this momentum by promoting your business or organization to the best of our ability.

We are busy planning our annual events and are looking for even more ways to add value to your membership investment. Be sure to attend one of the Maximize Your Membership/Member Orientation sessions which are held quarterly to learn about all that the Chamber has to offer; many of these options being FREE with your basic membership. We are also looking for various committee members, so if you would be interested in joining the Ambassador, Golf, Government/Political Advocacy, or Marketing groups, please call the Chamber for more details.

If you have not had a one on one meeting with me yet and would like to do so, please contact me. I have many people still to meet and numerous businesses to learn more about. Our Leadership Meadville Program has introduced me to many facets of our community. The class and I have met several community-minded, talented, and generous business owners who have spoken not only about their individual company, but various leadership styles which have been very interesting. If you have someone who may be interested in being a part of the next class or you would like to sponsor a LM6 Class breakfast of lunch please contact Karen Staudt in our office.

I know many people make New Year’s resolutions (many of us make that same one each year) to eat healthier, exercise more, join a gym, or something like that. Most of these resolutions don’t last a month. Please make the resolution this year to update the Chamber about your company. We need your primary contact person, your marketing person and anyone else that you would like to be receiving our Chamber Connections newsletter and updated information.

Whether you have been a Chamber member for years or just recently joined, I thank you for your investment in your company with us and I look forward to seeing you soon! Sincerely,

Christa

MERCY HOUSE Your Mercy House family expresses gratitude for your support, referrals and for the many ways you have blessed us this past year. It was a great year for us—Mercy House Honduras is up and running and we Skype weekly with our counselor there. We participated in numerous wellness fairs and had the privilege of making new friends. We were able to support various local and international charities and were able to serve nearly 200 people a month with counseling and drug and alcohol services. Because

of your support have been able to offer services to people who could not otherwise afford it.

However, our most notable achievement is of a more personal nature—genuine love for our clients. Our staff is gifted in many ways, all are dedicated to fulfill our mission of “Restoring Hearts and Homes.” From the first call to our supportive office staff, to compassionate counseling, my staff rates at the top. I am truly amazed at their level of professionalism and the high degree at which they perform their vocation. We will carry that into 2016 and won’t rest until all our families are restored and reclaimed. We wish you the best this coming year and pray that you prosper in 2016. Thank you for allowing us to serve. ~Cindy Kightlinger

BETH RYAN INTEGRATED MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS LLC Trade show exhibitions always beg the management question – where is the return on investment? Particularly when that investment grows into the 4, 5 and 6 figure category, trade show costs can be a considerable drain on company resources.

Here’s the bottom line: People buy from people they know, like and trust and the best way to gain that trust is by meeting in person. Your digital and direct marketing lay the foundation, but particularly with high dollar purchases, trust and credibility are the values that matter most.

Done well, trade shows are a priceless asset. Trade shows with no plan, on the other hand, are hit and miss. Can anyone afford that? January is a perfect time to make sure your plan is in place. Be sure your plan includes pre-show promotion and post show follow up. If you have any questions about "how to", let's talk.

Leadership Meadville 6

Government & Public Safety Day By Kelly Diley, Meadville Medical Center and LM6 Class Member

Andy Walker,

Meadville City

Manager, met

with LM6 in

Council’s

Chambers.

Tony Lang of Ainsworth

Pet Nutrition was hoping

we didn’t leave him behind

during our special tour of

the old courthouse jail.

Ted Morus of CATA gave a

synopsis of his group’s book

discussion.

One of the stops we made

was at the Meadville City

Police Station. We also

were able to squeeze in a

quick visit with retiring

District Magistrate Bill

Chisholm.

LM6 Leadership Statement: Leadership is the ability to learn, adapt and generate momentum from all stakeholders toward a common mission through influence, knowledge, vision, and creativity in order to achieve long-term success.

Our day began, as most LM6 days probably will moving forward, with discussion of the upcoming Chili, Chowder, Soup Cook Off.

The event is scheduled for March 31, 2016, and planning is in full swing. Committees have been chosen and roles defined. We are

looking forward to a successful event. And as we do every month, we also discussed the next segment of “The 21 Irrefutable Laws

of Leadership” by John C. Maxwell. We specifically reviewed the laws of magnetism and inner circle, and whether or not we are

influenced by “leaners” or “lifters.” We also spent some time discussing the concept of bureaucratic leadership, and when a “by the

book” management style might be necessary.

We traveled to the Meadville City Building for a tour provided by Michael Tautin, Assistant Police Chief. He reviewed benefits of

using more than one method for patrol (i.e. by foot, bike, and vehicle). He was gracious in his responses to the many questions our

class had regarding jurisdiction boundaries, response times, etc. We also met with Andy Walker, Meadville City Manager. Mr.

Walker provided us with valuable information on the structure of the city government and oversight committees, budgeting, and

current issues. Scott Schell, County Coroner, wrapped up the morning with a presentation regarding his role as an elected official,

his role within our local government, and issues facing his position.

We walked to LTI for lunch. Pat Campbell, LTI Director, talked with us during and after the meal regarding programs offered at her

facility and gave us a quick tour of this historic building. We then walked to the Crawford County Court House, where we spent the

afternoon.

Our time at the court house was also very informative. The class was fortunate to have heard from the following: Patricia

Wetherbee, Crawford County Clerk of Courts; Francis J. Schultz, District Attorney; Allen Clark, Emergency Management Director;

Dale Johnston, Scuba Team Chief; and Nick Hoke, Sherriff. Each of these professionals shared valuable information regarding their

role in local government, as well as advice for the class regarding leadership. A few favorite quotes of mine included “lead by

example,” “admit mistakes and move on,” “under promise and over deliver,” “have a contingency plan,” and the importance of a

“belief in your task/mission.” We ended our day with a tour of the Court House, the old jail, and the tunnel connecting the two. We

heard about the new facility being built and the rationale behind this expenditure. We realized that we were one of the last groups to

tour the old jail prior to its pending demolition, and were appreciative of the opportunity to see it first-hand.

By the end of the day, we had a greater understanding of issues facing our local economy, how local government functions, and the

roles our public officials play behind the scenes in order to keep our community safe and moving forward. We were sure to thank

each of them for their dedication to Meadville and surrounding areas, and headed home with a new appreciation for many things that

we had never considered before.
