-> In mid-1980’s Motorola (Bill Smith – considered as father of six sigma) designed a in-house model ‘Six Sigma’ for reducing defects. Chairman, Bob Galvin implemented across all sub functions

->In 1991 – Allied Signal adopted Six Sigma methods

->In 1995, General Electric’s CEO Jack Welch decided to implement Six Sigma in GE

->By 2000, Six Sigma was effectively established and implementation in all sorts of organizations around the world. Around 129 organizations around the world apply six sigma methodology today

• Can work on Local Problem solving teams that support overall projects but may not be part of six sigma project teams

• They are candidates for future participation

• Understands basic six sigma concepts from an awareness perspective

Six Sigma – The Yellow & Green Belt

• Participates as a project team member. Reviews process improvements that support the project.

Six Sigma – The Black Belt & MBB

• Leads projects and serves as coaches and resources to other projects

• Leads problem-solving projects. Trains and coaches project teams

• The MBB Trains and coaches Black Belts and Green Belts. Functions more at the Six Sigma program level by developing key metrics and the strategic direction. Acts as an organization’s Six Sigma technologist and internal consultant.

Certified Black Belt is a 4 hour 150 question proctored exam. The Exam contains approximately 30 multiple-choice and true/false questions from each major section of the IBoK for Black Belts.

Certified Green Belt is a 3 hour 100 question proctored exam. The Exam contains approximately 20 multiple-choice questions from each major section of the IBoK for Green Belts.

Certified Yellow Belt is a 1.5 hour 60 question proctored exam. The Exam contains multiple-choice questions from each major section of the IBoK for Yellow Belts
