Mason MS in Management

Mason’s MS in Management (MSM) staff and faculty have a singular focus—our students.

From helping prospective students through the admissions process to planning celebratory graduation events, our staff and faculty work together to provide you foundational business knowledge to improve your competitiveness in the job market.

Our Master’s in Management students accelerate their career and job opportunities by completing an intensive full-time, day-time program focused on enhancing their business acumen and professional development skills. The MSM is an 11-month master’s degree designed for students with non-business undergraduate degrees.

Our distinguished faculty offer relevant courses providing not only theoretical knowledge but also practical skills. Our well-connected career services team works one-on-one with students throughout the program on résumé and cover letter writing, utilization of job search tools, and placement in internships. In addition, our career services programming exposes students to a variety of job opportunities through networking events, professional panels, and access to our vast alumni network.

The culminating experience of the program is the global residency course. This course exposes students to elements of international business including political, cultural, and economic forces through an immersive global experience.

The Mason MS in Management student community is strong. Because of the cohort structure our students form close-knit groups through shared classroom and extra-curricular experiences (and the occasional happy hour!). We invite you to learn more about what the Mason MS in Management can do for you.

The School of Business is fully engaged with the regional business community, graduating highly qualified business students, producing research that informs business policy and operations, and providing venues for the region’s business leaders to work with our students in the classroom and to learn from each other. Business leaders and organizations are actively engaged through executive education programs, speaker engagements, classroom lectures, case competitions, internships, and career placement.

FacultyOur faculty is deeply engaged in the regional, national, and international business communities and their academic expertise combined with real-world experience provides a bridge in the classroom from academic theory to business practice. Faculty members have provided expert testimony before nearly every federal agency and have served as consultants to organizations such as NASDAQ, the FDIC, and the Department of Defense.

Our faculty brings relevant research and new insights into the classroom. Many of our instructors have achieved international renown because of their ground-breaking work in areas such as executive compensation, effects of insider trading on stock and e-commerce, and internal work groups and teams.

“I try to leverage the diversity of the backgrounds represented in each cohort to illustrate concepts in ways to show students how each might apply their learning to meet their personal and professional needs.”

“I had written off graduate school during my senior year, but was enticed by a masters degree in one year. With a degree in psychology, I realized that to get a decent job out of college I would be better suited with a graduate business degree.

I hope to gain knowledge of how to operate within a business as a professional. I also want to learn a base set of business skills that I can use in any job I get.”

Daniel Singer MSM ’15

Cohort ModelJust as important as who you’re learning from is who you’re learning next to. Students graduating from top graduate business programs have long-term success because they leave not only with strong relationships with their classmates, but also with the know-how to establish long-term “win-win” relationships.

The advantages of the cohort style are networking and relationship building among classmates, as well as learning to work with a group of people across multiple subjects for a specified length of time.

-AACSB’s getbschooled blog

Each group in the program progresses through the core curriculum together and develops meaningful relationships.

More importantly, a cohort environment teaches the framework for successful business environments by encouraging teamwork and critical thinking.

Cohort formats have been known to:•Improve communication and problem-solving skills•Encourage collaboration and in-depth explorations of ideas to improve learning

•Strengthen an individual’s confidence and thinking processes

•Improve emotional and psychological well-being during stressful times

George Mason is a large university with all the research, facility, technology, and recreation benefits you would expect to find. Yet, our distinctive cohort structure allows you to retain the benefit of small classes, individualized advising and instruction, and a strong sense of community and support.

“What is really great is how we all work with each other and help each other get through. It’s nice being in a cohort.” Amanda Denger MSM ’15

office of International Programs and ServicesThe Office of International Programs and Services educates, celebrates and serves the Mason community, including international and domestic students, faculty and exchange visitors, by helping them reach their highest academic and personal goals.

The Office of International Programs and Services (OIPS) have created “iCenter@Mason” for newly admitted international students. It is an online guide where you can find information about I-20/DS-2019, visa, and travel to the US, check-in and orientation. Visit oips.gmu.edu/new-students for more information.

Simple document requests (travel endorsements, invitation letters) can also be processed when you meet with an advisor during walk-in hours.

Types of documents processed by OIPS:•New and reissued I-20s and DS-2019s•Invitation letters•Travel signatures•Employment paperwork•Program extension letters•Reduced course load
