Farnham Town Council is delighted that Christmas in Farnham has been generously sponsored by Specsavers Farnham. Specsavers is Farnham’s largest Opticians and Hearing centre serving the community for almost 20 years.

Farnham’s Christmas Lights Switch-On 2015 Saturday 21 November 1pm – 6pm in Gostrey Meadow

On Saturday 21 November a celebration in Gostrey Meadow will mark the switching on of Farnham’s Christmas Lights. From 1pm Gostrey Meadow will be filled with the sights and sounds of Christmas.

Farnham’s local schools, theatre groups, bands and pantomimes will entertain the crowds on stage in the lead up to 4.30pm when the festive lights will be switched on and transform the town centre and surrounding villages for the Christmas period.

Live musical entertainment will take place throughout the event. Local school choirs, theatre groups, dance groups and bands will sing and dance their way through the day offering festive themed performances and carols.

The Switch on Make sure you look out for the cast members from popular local pantomimes. The cast of Cinderella from the Princes Hall, Aldershot will be there to meet the crowds and give out goodies before taking to the stage for their exciting show.

From around 4.15pm the cast of Aladdin from the Harlington in Fleet will take to the stage. The star cast and younger performers will put on a fantastic performance in the lead up to the switching of the lights.

At 4.30pm the cast will press the all-important button and Farnham’s Christmas lights will be lit up throughout the town for the festive period!

Fun for the childrenDon’t miss your chance to meet Father Christmas! He will be paying Farnham a special visit and will be tucked away in his cosy grotto with a special gift waiting for you. Don’t forget to bring along your letter to Father Christmas and you can deliver it personally. Entry is free.

Once you have met Father Christmas there is plenty more to do! A live Nativity

is busy preparing to come and meet all of the children at the Christmas Lights Switch on. You can meet the Nativity characters and pet the animals (hand washing facilities will be provided).

There will also be a range of fairground rides to keep the little ones amused plus children can be transformed into their favourite Christmas character at the face painting stand.

There will be plenty of food and drink on offer to warm you up or take away including hot freshly roasted chestnuts from Farnham’s Weyside Rotary Club plus some festive gift stalls for you to browse for that perfect Christmas gift.

Christmas Market

On Sunday 13 December between 10am and 4pm Farnham will welcome the Christmas Market returning for its second year, taking place in Castle Street and the Mercure Bush Hotel.

Castle Street will be closed to traffic and transformed into a bustling, jolly, festive market with around a hundred stalls, festive music and entertainment. There will be warming food and drink on offer including German sausages and mulled cider, plus plenty of festive gifts and decorations on offer.

Once you have visited the stalls in Castle Street and the Mercure Bush Hotel, make sure you visit the monthly Farmers’ Market in Central car park to pick up fresh local produce, perfect for making your Christmas Day Lunch.

There is no need to go any further than Farnham for your Christmas shopping this year. With over 200 shops, many of which are independent retailers, you can find perfect gifts for all your family and friends.

Many retailers have decided to stay open for late night shopping on Thursday 3, 10 and 17 December. Waverley’s pay and display car parks will also be offering free parking between 3pm and 7pm on Thursday 3, 10 and 17 December.

Hunt for Farnham’s Penguins

This year’s Christmas window competition will be officially launched on Sunday 13 December at the Farnham Christmas Market.

Children aged between 5 and 11 will be able to pick up an entry form and hunt for the penguins that are hiding in shop windows around Farnham. Children who find the most penguins will be entered into a draw to win a prize. Entry forms will be available at the Christmas Market and from Farnham Town Council’s offices. They can also be downloaded from www.farnham.gov.uk/christmas.
