Your Halloween Programming for October 2015 “AMERICAN HORROR STORY: HOTEL” (OCT. 7, FX): The fifth iteration of executive producer Ryan Murphy’s successful franchise doesn’t have Jessica Lange in the regular cast this time, but it does have notable newcomers … not the least of whom is music superstar Lady Gaga, playing the owner of a Los Angeles hotel that’s plagued by both the Ten Commandment Killer and the Addiction Demon. Matt Bomer (“White Collar’), Wes Bentley and Cheyenne Jackson also join the ensemble that includes such returnees as Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett and Sarah Paulson. “THE ENFIELD HAUNTING” (OCT. 9, A&E NETWORK): This new three-part miniseries boasts an impressive cast as it treads “Poltergeist”/ ”The Haunting”/”The Legend of Hell House” territory. It’s the fact-inspired tale of a case in mid-1970s England, where a family maintains their home is occupied by ghosts. Timothy Spall and Matthew Macfadyen (“Ripper Street”) play the paranormal investigators who respond, though they end up needing outside help. Juliet Stevenson and Struan Rodger (“A.D. The Bible Continues’) also are among the stars. “THE WALKING DEAD” (OCT. 11, AMC): Though its “Fear the Walking Dead” spinoff began in the summer, it’s no coinci- dence that this hugely popular melodrama starts its new rounds during the sea- son typically associated with ghoulish behavior. The show’s sixth stanza begins with Emmy winner Merritt Wever (“Nurse Jackie”) and Ethan Embry (“That Thing You Do!”) among the new cast additions as Rick Grimes’ (Andrew Lincoln) cru- sade against the Alexandria-oppressing Wolves continues. “STITCHERS” (OCT. 20, ABC FAMILY): As part of its “13 Nights of Halloween” showcase, the network appropriately includes a new episode of its adventure-drama series about government opera- tives who mentally “stitch” their way into others’ memories. Here, a suicide could be linked to another potential tragedy, since the deceased person was a suspect in a college student’s disappearance. Guest star Jeremy Sumpter (“Friday Night Lights”) joins regular-cast members including Emma Ishta, Kyle Harris and Salli Richardson-Whitfield. “THE SIMPSONS” (OCT. 25, FOX): What would trick-or-treat season be without this animated comedy’s annual Halloween episode? “Treehouse of Horror XXVI” follows the usual format of combining three vignettes into a scary-funny anthology. Kelsey Grammer reprises the guest-voice role of Sideshow Bob, who finally succeeds – for this half-hour’s purposes, anyway – at eliminating Bart (voice of Nancy Cartwright). Then, Bart loses his memory, and he inherits super-powers along with Lisa and Milstein (voices of Yeardley Smith and Pamela Hayden). “IT’S THE GREAT PUMPKIN, CHARLIE BROWN” (OCT. 29, ABC): Few things say ”Halloween” better on television than this animated classic. Linus stakes out a spot in the pumpkin patch, hoping to catch a glimpse of the Great Pumpkin. While he continues his annual vigil, Charlie Brown discovers stones in his trick-or-treat bag, Lucy becomes maternal and Snoopy gets moonstruck. Created by ``Peanuts’’ mentor Charles M. Schulz, the long-beloved special -- originally televised in 1966 -- features the music of Vince Guaraldi. “GRIMM” (OCT. 30, NBC): Another series that traditionally gets its seasonal start just before Halloween – no surprise, given its premise – this supernatural drama continues to take cues from the Brothers Grimm’s legendary stories, though it’s now well along in creating a mythology of its own. Season 5 opens with Portland detective Nick (David Giuntoli) trying to deal with multiple personal tragedies while also being a new parent with his former nemesis Adalind (Claire Coffee). “ASH VS. EVIL DEAD” (OCT. 31, STARZ): Since it usually offers its original series on Saturdays, you can bet a certain cable network is awfully happy that Halloween falls on that night this year. Thanks to the Sam Raimi-produced movies that have preceded it, this franchise already has a built-in audience as Bruce Campbell reprises the role of Ash Williams, carefree seeker of monsters …. which he has no problem finding more of here. Action icon Lucy Lawless, who played television’s “Xena: Warrior Princess” for Raimi and fellow executive producer Rob Tapert (her husband), also is in the cast.
