THE BRIGHTER SIDE OF “BRIGHT”
The evolution and life cycle of light transpired at a fast pace to primarily address issues of massive energy consumption. Light first started with incandescent bulbs to fluorescent lamps; progressed to Compact Fluorescent Lamp or CFL and now to the type of light source that is gaining momentum-the LED.
Currently, Compact Fluorescent Lamp (CFL) still earns the biggest share among the light sources in the country. Notwithstanding its advantages relative to energy conservation, CFL poses a threat to the environment. It contains an amount of toxic metal called Mercury. If broken and disposed incorrectly, the mercury vapor could contaminate the landfill.

The emergence of LED or Light-emitting diodes as a light source surpasses all types of light sources. Aside from being completely safe and eco-friendly, the energy and cost efficiency are relatively remarkable.LED lights have high luminous efficacy. Lumens per watt in LED could range from 40 to 90; unlike in CFL or fluorescent lamps that has 30 to 70 lumens per watt.
Instead of using a 25-watt CFL, a 5-watt LED bulb can produce the number of lumens the 25-watt CFL may produce. It is not actually an issue of wattage, but lumens - the luminous efficacy of the light source.
Replacing all CFL to LED bulbs will reduce electrical cost up to eighty percent (80%). Imagine how significant the energy savings would be when LED is the main light source both in the household and the construction industry.
