As CSC's new Executive Director I look forward to meeting you and working with the entire community as CSC evolves to meet the ever changing needs of entertaining all ages with fun-filled science. We have lots of great things going on as we kick off the summer months! One of our most popular exhibits, Flutterby, featuring 42 species of live butterflies recently opened in our Courtyard. Raceways is set to undergo a complete renovation and will open in the fall. You can visit the new Treehouse Adventures our permanent exhibition dedicated to preschoolers. We have a new Animal Encounter lined up this summer called Parrot Pals and we will celebrate the 50th year anniversary of man's first steps on the moon along with our Salt Block partners on July 20th. Plus we have the region's best summer camp; science- themed birthday parties; programs for school groups; live science presentations; shows in our planetarium; the opportunity to pet a sting ray and see baby puffer fish in our aquarium; and so much more. This is just the beginning. Stay tuned for news of how together we will be transforming CSC! Helping young people reach their potential and having a positive impact on the community have been the driving forces throughout my career. CSC provides a wonderful venue for me to expand on my love of science education. I look forward to discovering how together we can further develop this exceptional community asset. Each hands-on component of the exhibit allowsyou to build, create, and invent to your hearts content!Design, and build your very own creations with the bigblue blocks, K'nex, ducktape, plastic piping, hickory sticks, and more! Imagine. Design. Play. is free for CSC Members, and just $1 extra for non-members on top of generaladmission. It is located in Carpenter Hall in the North Lobby.

Flutter-on-by to CSC!Come see live butterflies in CSC's Flutterby Habitat! Witha provided field guide, guests will discover an assortmentof North Carolina native butterflies such as Monarchs,Swallowtails, and Fritillaries. Guests will also have theopportunity to experience the presence of semitropicalspecies such as Zebra Long Wing, Julia, and Queenbutterflies.

Splashy hour in the touch tank! Join us on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdaysfrom 2:00-3:00 pm for Splashy Hour in the touchtank. Visitors can touch and learn about avariety of aquatic animals!
Join us for an after hours laser show in the Millholland Planetarium on Friday, June 21st. Laser Retroand Laser Genesis! Featuring music from Genesis, The Police, INXS, Tears for Fears, Eurythmics andmore! Doors to CSC Planetarium Building open at 6:40 pm. You can purchase tickets in advance bycalling CSC at 828-322-8169 or the night of at the planetarium admission desk. Tickets must be pickedup by 5 minutes to show time; any that have not been claimed by that time will be re-released forpurchase. Tickets must be purchased seperately for each show. Doors to the planetarium will open 10 minutes prior to the show, and the planetarium will empty inbetween shows.

Photography MondaysJoin us for Photography Mondays in the Flutterby Habitat! On the first Monday of each month from 11:00am - 1:00 pm, photographers of any skill level are invited to come take photos in the Flutterby Habitatwhile it's closed to the public. Members from the Catawba Valley Camera Club will be onsite to assist.Cost is free for CSC Members and $5 for non-members. Please note that the habitat will be closed duringinstances of inclement weather. For more info call 828-322-8169.
CSC Member Night at the Hickory CrawdadsJune 7thFriday, June 7th is Catawba Science Center night at the Hickory Crawdads game! Show your Catawba ScienceCenter membership card at the Crawdads Climate Control Systems Ticket Office for up to 4 free tickets! Also, enjoy fireworks Friday after the game!
