I want to bid farewell to Kim, our Ag Marketing Specialist. Kim's departure is bittersweet as shejoined the Agriculture Marketing team in 2014. Kim's' accomplishments were many, and I share with you some major highlights from her tenurewith us. She revamped the Fresh. Local. Fun. PGC website, farmPGC.com. As well as, thevisibility of farming and local food operations in Prince George's County was increased throughKim's monthly newsletter, print media, dialogue and social media. platforms. Kim worked withExtension faculty across the state to bring programs such as Food for Profit, Annie's Project,Wheels Up, and Investing in Your Farm's Future to the County. Last but certainly not in the least, Kim's collaborating role on the Prince George's Food EquityCouncil, helped expand urban agriculture in the county, providing food and Ag friendly feedbackto our County's Zoning Ordinance rewrite, streamlining the permitting process for farmersmarkets. In this role she also worked on expanding urban agriculture in the county andpromoting the idea for county funding for a double value coupon program at farmers markets forresidents receiving food assistance benefits. We wish Kim well as she begins next month in her new role as the Urban AgricultureConservation Planner for the Prince George's County Soil Conservation District.

Best wishes,

Karol DysonCapital Area Extension DirectorUniversity of MD Extension

One of the most captivating experiences that 4-H offersduring the spring is the Embryology project. Youth whoparticipate are taught about avian biology, how to setup an incubator, and how to monitor the conditions withinthe incubator to ensure a successful hatch. Hatch daycomes just 21 days after setting up the incubator! So,including introductory and follow-up activities, the entireembryology project can be completed in less than onemonth.

4-H Educators are available to provide training to adultvolunteers on how to run this project in partnership withyouth. The training takes approximately 2 hours, and isfree of charge. Incubation supplies and fertile eggs arealso provided at no cost, courtesy of our partnershipwith generous local poultry farmers. Contact ArielDelgado ([email protected]) to set up a training foryour group today. Supplies are limited!
