Mean reduction of specific plasma constituents in a single H.E.L.P. apheresis session

Selective Reduction by up to 65%The separated plasma is mixed with a mixture of sodium acetate buffer (pH 4.85) and heparin (100 IU/ml). At a reaction pH of 5.12, H.E.L.P.precipitates the lipoprotein complexes, and these are separated by a precipitate filter.

Cleansed of lipids, CRP, and fibrinogen, the plasma ispassed through a heparin adsorber to remove excessheparin. This is followed by bicarbonate dialysis (forpH correction and acetate removal) and ultrafiltra-tion (for volume correction) to restore the plasma toits natural state before returning it to the patient.

Up to 4 liters of plasma can be cleansed in a singleH.E.L.P. apheresis session which takes about two hours.
