Now, while we too were big fans of the legendary game that was Snake, we’ve kept up with the tech shift and reckon we’re a pretty digital bunch - but we understand that not everybody has a liking for all this gadget wizardry.

That’s why we’re here to help you. If you haven’t a single clue about how to make a video and post it online, then fear not, because Camp Leaders will show you every step of the way. So, join us on this movie-making bonanza. If you’re a media whizz kid, then you can skip to the last page.

A computer: we’re using a Macbook Pro because we’re cool and we’re straight up Apple snobs. However, you can use any desktop or laptop computer. You’ll also need some internet, a dash of creativity and a sprinkle of patience.

A recording device: if you have a smart phone, then this will do. We’re going to use an iPhone for our demonstration because we’re straight up Apple snobs. But also, it’s the most popular phone. It’s fairly similar on other devices though.

A Youtube Account: again, there are other video sites available, but Youtube is the most popular and we reckon it’s the easiest to use. If you have a Gmail address, you will already have a Youtube account automatically. If not, you can sign up at youtube.com.

filming your videoSo, what you want to do is locate the camera on your phone, set it to video mode and make sure the camera is facing outwards, otherwise you’re just gonna end up with a load of unintentional selfies of your confused face and nobody wants to see that. Film yourself doing your thang in landscape. uploading your videoTo get the video(s) from your phone, you just plug it in with your USB cable and drag and drop the files onto your computer. Then you should go to youtube.com. So, incase you’ve never seen Youtube before, this is it. It has a lot of hilarious cat videos on it, but don’t watch them just yet, we’re busy here. Once you’ve signed up, to upload your video(s), you want to click the ‘upload’ button in the top right of the web page.

Alright, now we’re on the upload page. Do you see the enormous bit in the middle of the page that says ‘select files to upload’? Well that’s the one you want to click. Then you’ll get a drop down window to find the files on your computer. Choose the video files you’re going to be using and upload them all at once.

We managed to get James from marketing to offer up videos from his phone for this demo. One’s of a recording of Clint Boon’s ‘That’s Good Innit?!’ on XFM’s Drive Time show. One is of when he was in Amsterdam and watched Holland play Australia in the World Cup and the last one is a hilarious video of his cat. We just thought you‘d like to know. Anyway, this is the loading page, which shows that your videos are loading.

We’ve allocated you a quick five minutes for a tea break. Go, put the kettle on...

editing your videoOnce your wonderfully creative and entertaining videos have been uploaded, you want to go to the ‘Video Manager,’ at the top of ‘My Channel,’ then click on ‘Create’ in the bottom left and choose ‘Video Editor.’ This will then take you to the video editor. The labels are fairly self explanatory to be honest. Well done Youtube for your incredibly efficient labelling. (You haven’t been watching cat videos have you? Sure? Alright, we believe you.)

So, this is where things really spice up. You’re now in the editor. You drop your videos from the right onto the timeline in the bottom left. From there you can reorder and cut the length of the clips. With the little icons above the videos, you can also add effects, transitions, text and music. It’ll be commecially free music though. Don’t want to be breaking the law do you? You can go to prison for that, you know.

Alright, so once you’ve completed your masterpiece, just click publish, then you can edit the info and settings. Have a quick look at the ‘Finalising Your Video On Youtube’ section on the next page of this guide for information on what to put in the title and description fields. Once done, just grab the URL of the video and paste it into the ‘Showcase’ section of your Camp Leaders profile. Simples.
