More than 75% of our group leaders customize their tours by adding a single excursion, taking an extra day to further explore a region or building a tour from scratch. So whether you’d like to customize your experience a little or a lot, we’d love to help.

There are hundreds of ways to connect with the people, places and things you are visiting. Browse our menu of activities and then talk to your program consultant about how to include the ones that matter the most to you.

Service LearningDuring service learning projects you will actively contribute to the societies you are visiting in a meaningful way. Projects range in duration and intensity, but each is developed to benefit the local community, all the while enhancing students’ understanding of the world.

CHINA

Giant Panda Research Base Service Project: Assist the staff at the Bifengxia Valley Giant Panda Research Base with the conservation and protection of this endangered species.

Tree Planting in Xi’an: Work with the community to continue their reforestation efforts.

Children’s School Service Project in Beijing: Share stories and discuss cultural similarities and differences at a Beijing school for disadvantaged youth.

Children’s School Service Project in Shanghai: Volunteer at a school for less fortunate urban students.

COSTA RICA

Community and Reforestation Service Project: Begin with community- minded projects such as painting or grounds upkeep at local schools, followed by contributions to the local ecosystem and agriculture during reforestation work on area farms.

Community Improvement Service Project in El Roble: Experience daily life in rural El Roble and help the local community improve its public resources.

Sea Turtle Conservation Project: Participate in an important coastal-marine conservation effort as you work to promote the nesting and hatching of leatherback sea turtles.

Animal Sanctuary Service Project: Learn about Costa Rica’s diverse and threatened animal populations and help to rehabilitate the sick and injured creatures that are relying on the sanctuary for survival.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

Coral Reef Data Collection Service Project: Help save the Dominican Republic’s coral reefs and ocean ecosystem by collecting data from the area’s reefs.

Rio Grande Abajo Community Project: In cooperation with the peace corps, help construct stoves, or work to enhance local, stustainable development activities such as composting and recycling.

ECUADOR

Amazon Animal Service Project: Volunteer at the Monkey Sanctuary or Amazon Animal Rescue Centre to help care for the animals, maintain the facilities and fight against trafficking.

PERU

Janaq Chuquibamba Andean Community Project: Because at such high altitudes very few crops grow, you will help build a greenhouse and combat malnutrition in the area.
