What is AquaLine?AquaLine by AluSplash is an aluminium based wall and shower surround panel which is an ideal alternative to tiled walls, glass and acrylic wall panels.

AquaLine panels are highly durable, grout free and non-porous making it a much more hygienic option over tiles as it resists the buildup of mold and bacterial growth. The panels are a cost-effective solution for any new build or bathroom upgrade, as it is easy to install and maintain.

Planning your installation

Important Tips:

• Read through this installation brochure carefully before starting to install.

• Ensure you wear appropriate Personal Protective Gear (PPG) when handling, cutting, fabricating and installing AquaLine panels.

• Be careful when lifting the panel, always use a two-man lift to move the panel to avoid back injury and or damage to the panel edges or surface.

• All electrical, plumbing and gas works must be carried out by a licensed and qualified electrician, plumber or gas fitter respectively.

• Seal all exposed edges with a waterproofing sealant.

• Ensure to keep a 2mm thermal expansion gap and use packers.

• Check that you have all the tools and equipment required for the install.

• Take caution while opening the package with sharp blades to prevent damage to the panel surface.

• AquaLine panels are coated with 2 colours on the same panel (double sided), mark out on the protection film which side you intend to use.

• Always work on the reverse side of the panel.

• Double check your measurements! As you are working on the reverse side of the panel it is easy to make mistakes while transferring measurements.

• After cutting and before final installation, always do a dry fit to ensure everything fits well.

• Always check the protective film on the decorated surface for any drag marks or deep scratches that may have penetrated onto the coated surface prior to installation.

• If things get difficult, get professional help!

Area preparation Always ensure the walls on which you intend to apply AquaLine panels are dry, clean, smooth, flat and free from cracks.

All waterproofing and installation must be carried out by a registered and qualified waterproofing applicator.

Ensure proper waterproofing is done to the back wall in accordance with local building regulations.

Where you are installing the AquaLine panel over existing wall tiles ensure the wall is structurally sound with no loose tiles. Where you have loose tiles, remove completely and fill void with an appropriate filler. Clean all tiles thoroughly with a grease removing cleaner like sugar soap to remove any contaminants. Extremely high gloss tiles may need to be scuffed with coarse sandpaper to ensure good adhesion is achieved with your silicone adhesive.

• All backing substrates should be flush with no lipping or steps across different sheets.

• Measure the width of the panel required from the internal corner of the shower to a point where you want the panel to end.

• Measure the height of the panels from the existing floor level to the ceiling, allowing 2mm of space at the top for expansion

• Draw the marker line on the wall where you want the panel to fit in, this will act as a guide when installing the panel to the wall.

• Repeat these measurements for the opposite wall.

• Write your measurements on the REVERSE side of the panel.

• Use masking tape to mark out the location of any taps, mixers, and outlets.

Measuring Take all measurements carefully, Measure Twice!

Mark FRONT & REVERSE on the panel’s protection film on both sides. This is to avoid making mistakes, as AquaLine panels are coated with different colours on both sides it is easy to get confused and make mistakes while transferring your measurements.

Ensure any fixings used to hold the backing substrate that is behind your AquaLine panel are recessed or flush.

•Flush Wall Fixings

Backing substrates Backing substrates

All substrate wall linings must be sealed at the joints with a generous silicone or water proofing compound.

Seal all panel joints substrate

For shower and bath wall linings, use waterproof fiber cement or plasterboard, in accordance with local building regulation.

The shower floor (tiles or acrylic / fiberglass base) should be in place and secured prior to the installation of the AquaLine panel.

Cutting & Drilling• When cutting or drilling AquaLine panels always wear appropriate personal protection equipment.

• AquaLine panels are double sided, always work on the reverse side which will be stuck against the wall, not the side facing out.

• Always cut AquaLine on a flat secured surface such as a carpenter’s bench or a trestle table.

• Use a fine-tooth and sharp aluminium circular blade for cutting the panel to give good cutting results.

• Utilization of appropriate clamping and support is recommended to avoid vibration and potential sharp edges. Always protect the panel using a soft padded material between the clamp and the panel surface to avoid indentation.

• Use a Deburring tool to remove sharp burrs from the edge of the panels to avoid damaging the water membrane.

It is recommended to use only premium quality neutral cure silicone and VHB double sided tape when sealing and adhering AquaLine panels to the wall.

• Always follow the adhesive manufacturer’s instructions when using silicone in wet areas and test your silicone in an inconspicuous area as some silicone brands can contain fillers that may damage the AquaLine panel.

• Ensure the rear surface is clean and free from dust or any other substance before applying the tape and silicone adhesive.

(Tip: Remember to peel off the protection film from the REVERSE side only before applying the VHB tape and silicone)

• Next apply a bead of neutral cure silicone adhesive with a caulking gun in a Zigzag pattern between the strips of VHB double sided tapes.

• There should be a minimum of 10mm gap between any hole created and the edge of the AquaLine panel.

Holes

• Work at a moderate speed and pressure, and clean dust away frequently after cutting to avoid damage to the surface.

• Dry fit each panel before applying silicone adhesive or double sided tape to the panel. This is to ensure that everything measures up.

• Remember to peel off the protection film from the reverse side of the panel before applying silicone and VHB tape. Do not remove the protection film from the FRONT side of the panel until the install is complete and the panel has cured.

• AquaLine splashback panels are waterproof, however precautions must be taken to eliminate the risk of water entering between the skin and core via the junctions where the panels meet/join each other and/or other substrates (i.e. shower floor/tray). Hence, it is very important to seal any exposed edges with silicon, failing to do so will immediately void the warranty.

• To prevent any moisture penetrating behind the panel, it is important to run a bead of natural cure silicone from the top of the AquaLine panel to the bottom of the shower base to seal the panel.

04

• For holes and openings made for taps, mixers and shower fittings, apply a bead of neutral cure silicone in a wavy pattern around the hole on the REVERSE SIDE of the panel leaving a break at the bottom of the bead allowing for condensation or moisture drainage.

• Fix tap spindle as per manufacturer’s instructions.

• AquaLine does not recommend or provide any warranty for any particular brand of silicone, VHB tape or any other product which it does not manufacture.

• Special attention should be paid to the top and bottom of the internal corner and anti-fracture membrane areas.

• Once the AquaLine panel is installed to the wall, firmly rub down on the panel, to ensure the tape and silicone adhesive contacts well to the wall.

• Allow the curing process to take place for 12 hours (overnight).

• Do not use excessive force while peeling the protective film, as it may shift the installed panel.

• After the film has been removed, it is recommended that you immediately clean the AquaLine panel with VuPlex® spray to protect the panel surface from any micro-scratches or build-up of dirt.

Curing

• Only use a soft microfiber cloth or a non-abrasive cloth to clean the panel surface.

• Metal scrubbing pads or any other abrasive cleaners should never be used on the panel surface.

• Clean the panel surface with mild detergents to clean the panel surface.

• Do not use acidic, caustic or abrasive cleaning detergents or materials to clean the panel surface.

• Detergents with bleach or home remedy solutions such as baking soda, or other stain removing gels, powders, liquids or materials should not be used on the panel surface.

• Most common brands of cleaning liquids, shampoos, conditioners, toothpaste and mouth wash do not stain the AquaLine panel surface.

• However, care should be taken to immediately clean away the hair dye from the panel surface to prevent permanent staining. Stains caused by hair dye or other products are not covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.
