Please sort your waste correctly and help us to achieve our target of 65% waste diversion from landfill by 2020.
Your Waste and Recycling Guide 2017/18
The City of Stirling would like to thank you for your ongoing commitment to sorting your waste correctly.
Your Waste Service
Over the last 12 months, the City implemented a number of initiatives to educate residents on correctly sorting their waste and using the three bin system to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.
One of the key initiatives was the City’s Recycling Champion incentive. Each month, recycling ambassadors visited various locations throughout the City to better educate people on how to sort common household items correctly using the three bin system. The City also posted weekly recycling tips via social media, and as part of the incentive, a total of 12 Recycling Champions were chosen from a randomly selected street and awarded a gift voucher for sorting their waste correctly.
Since commencing in July 2016, residents successfully reduced the amount of waste sent to landfill. As a result, the City will continue to run a similar initiative in 2017/18 with details available at www.stirling.wa.gov.au/recycling
To educate our younger generation, the City launched a Waste Education Program in March 2017 for schools in the local area. This program is run in partnership with Mindarie Regional Council and Waste Wise Schools with the aim to visit every school in the City over the next two years. To find out how to get your school involved, phone (08) 9205 8555 or visit www.stirling.wa.gov.au/waste
Residents also had the opportunity to reduce household waste by donating clothing, textiles and bedding to charity at the City's Charity Clothing Drop Off Day events. These events will continue in 2017/18. Visit the City’s website to find out when the next event is!
