ranged from nil to 13 mm.Very little crop damage was reported.

Wind in the southeastern and east-cen-tral regions caused some canola swaths to blow around. Light frost was reported in the southeastern and east-central regions as well; however, crops have matured enough that damage is expected to be minimal.

Across the province, topsoil moisture on cropland is rated as one per cent sur-plus, 48 per cent adequate, 41 per cent short and 10 per cent very short. Hay land and pasture topsoil moisture is rated as one per cent surplus, 47 per cent ade-quate, 39 per cent short and 13 per cent very short.

Farmers are busy swathing, combining and hauling bales.

SASK. GRAIN FARMERS EXPECT NEAR-RECORD

HARVEST - Frost still a concern but harvest halfway done

CBC News Posted: Sep 18, 2013 cbc.ca - It looks like 2013 will be a great year for grain farmers in Saskatchewan.

Harvest is halfway done and farmers across the province are bringing in a bumper crop.

Crop reports indicate that near-record levels of grain will be harvested this year. Some farmers are bringing in 60 bushels per acre of canola, which is much higher than the usual 40.

“Lentils have been pretty decent and we have been working on canola the last cou-ple days,” Dave Schoenroth, a farmer near Balgonie, said. “It’s [canola] been pretty good too. Some of it was hailed on but it still yielded not too badly.”

With all this grain pouring in, business-es are feeling the effect as storage bins are a hot commodity.

Curt Flaman with Flaman Agriculture said some farmers are storing grain on the ground because they have run out of places to put it.

“We’ve been pretty much cleaned right out in Saskatoon and pretty much across our whole province,” Flaman said. “Farmers haven’t expected this big of crop yields and I don’t think anybody could have expected the bumper crop everyone is having. So we’re pretty much cleaned right out of bins. We do have more coming in, but as of right now we are sold out.”

Flaman said his company won’t be receiving any grain storage equipment until late October.

The over abundance of grain comes at a cost. A grain glut means prices are trend-ing down.

Last year, a bushel of wheat sold for about $9. This year, the price has fallen to $5.75. Most crops are travelling the same downward path.

“Canola for instance -- last year off the combine -- was probably about three and half dollars higher than it is now per bushel,” Schoenroth said. “That makes quite a difference.”

This year, 2013, the International Day of Peace is on a Saturday, Septem-ber 21st, and special activities and celebrations will take place all across the world over the 2013 Peace Day Weekend, including festivals, concerts, a global Peace Wave with moments of silence at noon in every time zone, and much more. The International Day of Peace, a.k.a. “Peace Day” provides an oppor-tunity for individuals, organizations and nations to create practical acts of peace on a shared date. In 1981, the United Nations General Assembly, by unanimous vote, ad-opted Resolution 36/67 establishing the International Day of Peace (IDP) which stated in part, “…to devote a specific time to concentrate the efforts of the United Nations and its Member States, as well as the whole of man-kind, to promoting the ideals of peace and to giving positive evidence of their commitment to peace in all viable ways.” The first Peace Day was cel-ebrated in September 1982 on the opening day of the General Assembly. In 2002 the UN General Assembly officially declared September 21 as the permanent annual date for the International Day of Peace. By creating the International Day of Peace, the UN devoted a specific day and collaborative focus on worldwide peace and encouraged all of human-ity to work in cooperation for this goal. During the discussion of the U.N. Resolution that established the International Day of Peace, it was suggested that: Peace Day should be devoted to commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples…This day will serve as a reminder to all peoples that our organization, with all its limitations, is a living instrument in the service of peace and should serve all of us here within the organization as a constantly pealing bell reminding us that our permanent commitment, above all interests or differences of any kind, is to peace. Since its inception, Peace Day has marked our personal and planetary progress toward peace. It has grown to include millions of people in all parts of the world, and each year events are organized to commemorate and celebrate this day. Events range in scale from private gatherings to public concerts and forums where hundreds of thousands of people participate. Anyone, anywhere can celebrate Peace Day. It can be as simple as light-ing a candle at noon, sitting in silent meditation, or doing a good deed for someone you do not know. Or it can involve getting your co-workers, organization, community or government engaged in a large event. The impact if millions of people in all parts of the world, coming together for one day of peace, is immense, and does make a difference. International Day of Peace is also a Day of Ceasefire – personal or political. Take this opportunity to make peace in your own relationships as well as impact the larger conflicts of our time. Imagine what a whole Day of Ceasefire would mean to humankind.

Workshops will include hands-on art activities that require no previous art experience, just a willingness to participate and explore! Bonnie Chapman is a Regina-based artist who exhibits, lectures and consults internationally. She is completing a M.Ed. in Art, Healing, Spirituality and Social Justice and writing a book on art expression as an integral component of whole person healthcare. She has been serving as Head of the Creativity for Health program for the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region and the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency. Bonnie’s keynote address and workshops will explore how creativity promotes health and wellbeing, integrating your body’s life experiences and expressing your spirit’s energy flow through art making, self-compassion, mindfulness and personal reflection. Bonnie will identify tangible opportunities to build common ground through the arts to advance shared goals for healing the body, mind and spirit and transform the way people are being cared for on the healing journey. This workshop will be of interest to those on a personal healing journey, educators, artists, health care professionals and caregivers. 41

Two small county judges both got arrested for speeding on the same day. Rather than call the state Su-preme Court for a visiting judge, each agreed to hear the other’s case.

The first judge took the bench while the second stood at the defendant’s table, and admitted his guilt. The sentencing judge immediately suspended both the fine and costs.

They switched places. The second judge admitted that he was speeding, too. Thereupon the first judge immediately fined him $250 and ordered him to pay court costs.

The second judge was furious. “I suspended your fine and costs, but you threw the book at me!”, he fumed. The first judge looked at him and replied, “This is the second such case we’ve had in here today.

Someone has to get tough about all this speeding!”

A businessman, on his deathbed, called his friend and said,

“Bill, I want you to promise me that when I die, you will have my re-

mains cremated.”“And what,” his friend asked, “do you want me to do with

your ashes?”The businessman said, “Just put

them in an envelope and mail them to the Internal Revenue Service. Write on the envelope, ‘Now, you

have everything.’”
