SIXES - The last Curry Contra Dance of the yearwill be held from 7-10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at theSixes Grange.Karen Olson will be caller for this event, which is

sponsored by the South Coast Folk Society, and livemusic is enthusiastically provided by the OutstandingOpen Band made up of musicians from up and downthe coast. Side of the Tide Morris Dancers will enter-tain during a break in the Contra dancing, jinglingtheir bells, stamping their feet and clacking theirstaves together in their delightfully rowdy dance.

Participants don’t need to bring a partner to a contradance. If they do, they can expect a lot of partnerchanges throughout the evening. Those attendingalso do not need to know how to dance. The callerwill walk the dancers through the steps before theband takes up their instruments.This year’s Curry Contra Dances were funded by a

BANDON – The Bandon Booster Club presents Gold Rush, a dessert auc-tion fundraiser at 6 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Bandon Community Center,1200 11th St. SW.The fundraiser will feature silent and live dessert auctions, raffle tickets and

prizes, a balloon pop and more. A dinner, including meats and smoked macand cheese provided by Wilson’s Market, plus sides will be offered, alongwith a full bar. There will be dancing after the silent auction to live music byMorgan Alexander, sponsored by Cardas Audio. The event is for those 21 andolder.The football, volleyball, band, cheer, girls basketball, softball, boys golf andbaseball teams are all participating with baskets for the auction.Tickets cost $25 each or $200 for a table of eight, and can be purchased froma student-athlete from the volleyball or softball teams, at CC’s Salon fromBriana Hutchens, from Emily Clark at Bain Insurance, or directly from theBooster Club. BANDON - Take a 5.4 mile hike along thetrails at Bullards Beach State Park with theSouth Coast Striders on Saturday, Oct. 20.Meet at 10 a.m. in the parking lot across

from the meeting hall yurt located insidethe Bullards Beach State Park camp-ground.

From the parking lot, participants willhike through a closed section of the camp-ground, then up Pearl’s trail. From therethey will hike north through part of ThreeMares Loop to the North Loop Trail, thenhike south back to Pearl’s trail and to the

starting point.This hike is rated moderate to difficult dueto soft sand conditions. If it’s been raininghikers may need waterproof hiking bootsin some areas.Plan on 2.5 hours for this hike. Restroomsare located at the beginning and end of thehike. Pack a lunch to enjoy along the wayor at the end.If there is demand, there will be a shorter

version of this hike that goes straight outon Pearl’s trail and returns on the parkwalkways.
