Youth make up 20% of the homeless population in Canada. It’s time to act.

I, along with other youth from the Anglican and Evangelical Lutheran Churches, have learned about the homelessness and housing crisis in Canada and I am extremely concerned with how it affects youth and young adults. We are committed to learning more about this issue over the next two years.

I have also learned that the Government of Canada has launched a new National Housing Strategy over the next 10 years. We ask that the Strategy make clear the ways in which it will address and help homeless youth and young adults in communities all across this country, especially since young people who are homeless (ages 13-24) make up approximately 20% of the homeless population in Canada.

I have just written to the Prime Minister (Minister for Youth) to express my concern.

I have also learned that the Government of Canada has launched a new National Housing Strategy over the next 10 years. I ask that you encourage the Prime Minister to ensure the Strategy make clear the ways in which it will address and help homeless youth and young adults in communities all across this country, especially since young people who are homeless (ages 13-24) make up approximately 20% of the homeless population in Canada.
