Get CreativeThere’s a little artist in each child waiting for an opportunity to express themselves. Children will have fun getting creative in a variety of activities including art, cooking, science, STEM and more.
Be PhysicalFor the child who is interested in all sports and challenging team building initiatives. Emphasis will be on fun and fair play, making use of the rock wall, low ropes course and more.
Find Your ZenKick back at the end of the day and enjoy reading a book, playing board games or listening to music with friends.
Note: A parent or guardian must be in the building while kids are participating in Family Zone. Children can be dropped off anytime during family zone hours with staff at PlayCentre.
The Cobourg YMCA Family Zone allows parents to workout or try a new class while their kids enjoy great youth programs.

Children get to choose from a variety of programs during Family Zone hours. Family Zone is free for YMCA Northumberland members, and the day use fee for non-members.

Teen Strength 101
This program allows participants to earn their shoe tags by learning the operation of cardio machines, pin-loaded resistance training machines, and free weights. Participants must complete the four components of training before receiving their shoe tag.

Come with your friends and choose your adventure. Swim in the pool, make crafts, get active in the gym, or relax with a movie. Registration required.

Youth Night - Ages 10-12
Every Friday youth are invited to come to the YMCA and use the pool, gym and conditioning room. We will also have some special events and workshops starting at 8 pm. No membership is required, but a photo ID must be presented. Appropriate workout attire and footwear required.

Teen Night - Ages 12-15
YMCA Teen Night provides an opportunity for youth age 12-15 to participate in various activities in all facility areas. Activities may include recreational sports, swimming, conditioning, and fitness. Appropriate workout attire and footwear required.

Aquatic Leaders in TrainingAquatic Leaders in Training provides youth opportunities to get involved in YMCA Aquatics and the community. Youth get a chance to develop leadership skills and belong to a group of positive, like-minded peers. Aquatic Leaders in Training participants will work towards Bronze Star, learn Bronze Medallion skills, and have opportunities to volunteer.

Drop the kids off at the Cobourg YMCA on Thursday nights for a fun and memorable sleepover while you enjoy the night off. Kids will take part in camp activities such as low ropes, archery, shelter building and other outdoor activities. The night will end with a fun sleepover in the play structure. Dinner, Breakfast and snacks provided. Drop off after 5:00 pm on Thursday Pick up by 9:00 am the next morning Want to extend the fun? Junior Lifeguard ClubJunior Lifeguard club offers serious fun for kids eight years and up who can swim at least 25 meters and tread water for two minutes. Junior Lifeguard Club provides an action-packed challenge for kids who love the water. Our mission is to provide participants with the training and education so they can become one of the elite lifeguards at the YMCA.

Y Waves Swim TeamTake your swimming skills to the next level with the Y Waves. The swim team builds self-esteem, confidence, sportsmanship and a strong sense of team. BRONZE MEDALLION WITH EMERGENCY FIRST AID August 19 - 23 | 9:00am-4:00pm Members $180 • Non-Members $225 Location: Cobourg YMCA This course is the first step on the path to lifeguarding. It teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue education- judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness. Upon successful completion of the course, candidates receive certification in Emergency First Aid and CPR ‘B’. Prerequisite: Candidates must be 13 years of age or have a current Bronze Star certification. 100% attendance is required.
BRONZE CROSS August 19 - 23 | 9:00am-4:00pm Members $140 • Non-Members $180 Location: Cobourg YMCA This course is a prerequisite for the National Lifeguard Award. The course is designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of a more advanced training including an introduction to safe supervision in an aquatics facility. Other topics include lifesaving vs. lifeguarding, teamwork and rescues, and management of spinal injuries. Prerequisites: Candidates must be 13 years of age Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid (needs not to be current). 100% attendance is required.
BRONZE MEDALLION/BRONZE CROSS WITH EMERGENCY FIRST AID August 19 - 23 | 9:00am-4:00pm Members $230 • Non-Members $350 Location: Cobourg YMCA This course is an opportunity for participants to complete both Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross. STANDARD FIRST AID - CPR C/AED Weekend Courses July 20 & 21 August 24 & 25 Saturday and Sunday 9:00am - 5:00pm Full Course - Members $120 | Non-Members $160 Location: Cobourg YMCA This course provides in-depth training in all aspects of first aid and CPR. Participants will develop an understanding of the legal implications of first aid treatment and skills in the treatment of spinal injuries, bone and joint injuries, heat and cold emergencies, medical emergencies and much more.
STANDARD FIRST AID - CPR C/AED Recertification Courses Sun July 21 | 9:00am - 5:00pm Sun August 25 | 9:00am - 5:00pm Members $75 | Non-Members $90 Location: Cobourg YMCA Recertification held on the Sunday. Prerequisites: Must hold a current SFA certification. Participants must bring their current Standard First Aid Certificate.

Facility Swim TestParticipants must be able to swim without flotation devices of any kind, jump into deep water, preform surface support for 1 min and swim 25m without stopping and without touching the bottom, or sides of the pool. Participants of any age may be asked to preform the swim test.
Children 0-5 years must be accompanied in the water with a parent or guardian(16yrs+) at all times at a ratio of 1 guardian to 2 children regardless if they are able to pass the facility swim test or not.
Children 6-9 years of age who have not passed the facility swim test must be directly supervised by a parent or guardian(16yrs+) at all times at a ratio of 1 guardian to 2 children. If the children are wearing lifejackets the ratio may increase to 1 guardian to 4 children.
Children 6-9 years of age who can pass the facility swim test may swim on their own provided a parent or guardian(16yrs+)is supervising them from the pool deck. Adults may supervise a maximum of 4 children.
Individuals 10+ years of age who are not able to pass the facility swimming test will be directed to swim in the pool area appropriate to their abilities.
