Youth Service Survey 2007 Summary Report Overview The Youth Service Survey is undertaken annually by young people who attend local authority or commissioned provision. Questions are asked to gauge young peoples use and satisfaction with the services provided. The results are used to inform Children & Young People’s Departmental Plans. Projects will be given individual feedback on the results of their surveys so that information can be fed into operational plans. Method The survey this year was produced both in paper and electronic form. The surveys were sent to all centres and projects supported by the Youth Service. A total of 620 surveys were sent out together with details of how to access the survey online. A prize draw was also included to encourage young peoples participation, there were six winners, two from each locality. Evaluation A total of 394 paper surveys were completed and returned together with 4 online surveys. This represents an increase of 42% on last years total. Twenty-two projects returned surveys also an increase on last year’s returns (details can be found in the appendices). Percentages have been calculated using a base figure of 398 except for the final question, as a significant number of surveys were not completed on the back page. Charts showing detailed results can be found in the appendices. Detailed below is a summary of the results from each section of the survey. Your Youth Centre, group or project should be within a reasonable distance to where you live. The results show that over 85% of users take between 5 and 15 minutes to arrive at their chosen project. Most users walk to their projects however a significant number still require transport to get to a project most using a car. Only 5 respondents use public transport. You can take part in fun and challenging activities and learn and gain new skills. Young people were asked which activities they had taken part in during the past year, a full list of the activities can be found in the appendices. The most popular activities were Sports, Food& Cooking, Arts & Crafts closely followed by Music and Dance. 89% of users found the activities fun and challenging whilst 72% learnt something new from taking part.
