LO’s will receive valuable job experience while exploring the career fields of youth development, prevention, and community organizing. A YP staff supervisor will support each intern in the completion of project and learning objectives that are integral to YP’s overall work in Vallejo. About Youth Partnership Youth Partnership (YP) directly supports young people to organize projects, campaigns, and initiatives that address issues that concern and inspire them. YP is a youth-led community organizing initiative in Vallejo, CA. By guiding youth participants through an organizing process that combines skill-building, political education, and the coordination of an issue campaign, YP seeks to increase competencies and opportunities for youth, ages 14-21, to impact meaningful decisions that affect the entire Vallejo community. We believe that young people are fully capable of addressing issues and solving problems in their own lives, communities and broader society. About Fighting Back Partnership Vallejo’s Fighting Back Partnership (FBP) is a community-wide coalition that serves as the catalyst and facilitator for creating a healthier and safer community through the reduction of substance abuse and other related problems. Since 1990, FBP has built diverse partnerships, which involve individuals, institutions and community-based organizations, all working together toward a common goal. FBP and its community partners have been able to mobilize their resources more efficiently for community building and problem solving. How to Apply!

Lead Organizers (LO) will serve as leaders of YP’s youth action groups known as Organizing Teams. Two LO’s will be assigned to each Organizing Team, which will meet at either a school or community site. LO’s are responsible for performing a variety tasks and activities including, but not limited to, recruitment of youth participants, planning of meetings and events, meeting facilitation, training, community education, networking, public speaking, and program evaluation. LO’s will undergo extensive training at a mandatory LO Retreat from August 6-9, 2013. The duration of each LO position is from August 6, 2013 to June 6, 2014, ranging from 5-8 hours per week. LO’s receive a small monthly stipend of $50-100.

Desired Experience and Qualities:

• Commitment to YP’s mission, vision and goals

• Effective written and verbal communication skills

• Interpersonal skills with youth and adults from diverse backgrounds

• Provide own transportation (i.e. drive, get dropped off, walk, public transit, etc.)

• Flexible working hours—some evening and occasional weekend work may be required

• Minimum GPA of 2.5

Application: Complete application, including the short essay (on a separate sheet, preferably

typed and double-spaced) and Applicant Availability Form.

from teachers, administrators, employers, and/or community leaders.
