2. SCHOOL ROUTINES

2.1 Attendance

At Yu Neng Primary, we emphasise regular and punctual attendance. We believe that students are more likely to make optimum progress in their development of healthy habits, lifeskills, character and academic learning with regular attendance in school.

Parents are reminded NOT to take their child out of school during term time without valid reasons, including travelling abroad. If there is a need, it is necessary to request for leave of absence in advance from the principal through the form teacher. Absence from school must be covered by medical certificate (MC) or letter of excuse from parents/guardians, which should be handed to the form teacher upon your child’s return to school.

2.2 Health and Well-being matters

Your child’s health and well-being is of utmost importance to us. We want to ensure that the school is a safe and healthy environment for all our students and staff, especially so when we are still fighting COVID-19. As a nation, we are called to remain vigilant as we enter Phase 3. As such, adherence to safe management measures that our school has been practising since last year will continue in 2021 to safeguard the health and well-being of our students and staff.

The following are general SMMs that will remain in place in 2021 and reminders for your attention and cooperation.

1. Daily temperature taking with visual screening for all staff and students. A second temperature taking with visual screening will be conducted before the start of all after school activities. Please check that your child’s thermometer is in good working condition and it is with him/her at all times. If your child has misplaced his/her ODT, a replacement can be purchased from the school bookshop at $4.90 per piece. If there is a need to replace the battery, it can be purchased at $1 from the school bookshop. Every P1 student has been issued with a new ODT on Tue 5 Jan 2021. This is a one-off distribution and any future replacement of ODTs will have to be borne by parents.

2. Students and staff who are unwell, or who have an adult household member on Home Quarantine Order/Stay Home Notice/Leave of Absence or have flu-like symptoms such as fever and/or cough, should inform the school as soon as possible. They will be placed on Approved Absence and be required to stay at home for the duration of the household member's medical leave.

3. Default daily wearing of masks throughout the day except when consuming food during breaks. For students who have certified health conditions that may result in breathing or other medical difficulties when a mask is worn for a prolonged period of time, face shields could be worn for short periods of time. Teachers can put on face shield when speaking to a group in a classroom or lecture-style setting while maintaining a safe distance from students.

4. Students will wash their hands frequently throughout the day and carrying out wipe down of desks, canteen tables and shared equipment after use.

5. They will also have fixed seating arrangement in class and in the canteen.

6. There will be six recesses to reduce inter-mingling across levels. As such, snack break and recess timing for each level will be different. Please refer to the table below for details.

Level Recess Snack Break

P1 8.40am - 9.10am 12.00 p.m.

Students are strongly encouraged to bring light healthy snacks such as sandwiches, fruits or biscuits from home for the short 5 to 10 minute snack break in class.

7. There will be no recess play until further notice. 8. Staggered dismissals of levels at different gates.

During staggered dismissals, parents may wait at the sheltered walkways at the dismissal gates. Parents are reminded to maintain a safe social distance of 1m from others and avoid crowding. Should your child have an elder sibling, the elder sibling can be dismissed from the designated gate that the younger sibling is using.

2.3 After School Activities

2.3.1 Academic Support

We will be conducting FUNdamentals, an after-school programme aimed to strengthen foundational knowledge and skills for selected students. For both the P5 & P6 students, the FUNdamentals lessons will commence in Term 1 Week 4 i.e. Mon 25 Jan 2021 onwards. These are customised and differentiated lessons that are designed to further support your child/ward as needed. If your child is selected for these lessons, you will receive a separate letter and consent form from the teacher-in-charge. The lessons will be conducted from 1.45pm-3.15pm.

2.3.2 Co-Curricular Activities (CCA)

In Yu Neng, CCA is integral to the holistic development of students. Through their active participation in CCA, students are provided with varied and authentic opportunities to develop their character and 21st Century Competencies. In addition, CCA provides students with a platform to discover their interests and talents, which will eventually help the student to lead a balanced life in adulthood. Students progressively develop CCA-specific knowledge, skills, values and attitudes through sustained participation in CCAs. Therefore, students who have existing CCAs are strongly discouraged from switching CCAs. Face-to-face CCAs will commence from Term 1 Week 3 i.e. Mon 18 Jan 2021, except P3 students and selected CCAs preparing for competitions early in the year. All students in the various CCAs will be informed of the arrangement by their respective teachers-in-charge.

All visitors are required to report to the security desk at the school foyer to register their visit. Visitors are also expected to check-in via SafeEntry and have their temperature taken as part of our safe management measures.

Please report to the general office and obtain a visitor’s pass if you have an official appointment with a member of the school staff.

4.2 Drop Off Points

Parents/ guardians who are sending their child/ward to school by car, can either

a) drive into the school to alight your child/ ward between 7.00am to 7.30am, or b) alight your child/ ward at public HDB carpark at Blk 508 which has a sheltered walkway

leading to gate 4 of the school. For the safety of your child and other road users, please do not alight your child along the road just outside our school main gate 1 and 2.

(a) Drive-through in school (b) Public HDB carpark at Blk 508

4.3 Road Safety The school will be conducting road safety briefing at the start of the year to remind all students of the road safety messages. We would like to appeal to parents/ guardians to inculcate good safety practices by encouraging and role-modelling to your child/ ward. The roads outside our school can be busy during peak hours. Please remind your child/ ward to use the zebra-crossing in front of the school to get across the road.

For students who are cycling to school, we strongly encourage all student cyclists to ride a bicycle that fits them well and put on their safety helmets to protect their head from injury.

4.4 Insurance for Students

All students are covered with the Group Personal Accident (GPA) Insurance by NTUC Income. Details of the insurance plan and coverage will be furnished later.

Potential food safety and allergies incidents

Loss of curriculum time and/ or recess time for play

Unnecessary pressure upon students to get their parents to organise celebrations for them We seek your understanding in cooperating with the school on this matter.
