Anti-Racism SeriesHistory of Anti-Black Racism in IowaMonday, January 156-8pm, Danfoss Room

Th e Anti-Racism Collaborative (ARC) of Ames and Ames Public Library will present a series of lectures and workshops focused on raising conscious awareness of racism and of systemic white supremacy, including the harms done to all peoples by these systems. We will learn and work together to combat and dismantle racist systems locally, statewide, and nationally. Th e January 15 discussion will be presented by Dr. Katy Swalwell of Iowa State University.Provided in partnership with Ames Public Library and the Anti Racism Collaborative of Ames.

Earth and Space Science Community Impact Project Exhibition Friday, January 56:30-7:30pm, Auditorium

Students in Collin Reichert's Earth and Space Science course have worked on applying the things they've learned in class to community issues at a local, state, national, and international scale. Th ese projects apply an understanding of human use of natural resources like fossil fuels, soil, and water to environmental or economic issues in society. Some sections of this course have also explored the possibility of colonizing Mars.Provided in partnership with Ames Public Library and Ames High School.

Th e goal of this community book study is to unpack our own long-held beliefs about race: colorblindness, being a good person, and wanting to "help people of color" through reading and refl ecting on the book Waking Up White by Debby Irving.
