The Christmas Light Parade at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7 will headline a host of holiday events being planned in Portales this year.
The parade will be led by the entrants in the Little Miss Merry Christmas contest with Santa Claus riding on a fire truck bringing up the rear. In between will be a variety of entries lit up brightly. Activities start on the square at 5:30 p.m. with music and free hot chocolate and cookies from the Pregnancy Resource Center. Then at 6 p.m. the Portales High School and Junior High Choirs will entertain prior to the parade making its way around the square.
The parade doesn’t have a theme, other than Christmas, but there are first place awards in the categories of “business,” “church” and “Non-profit/Individual.”
There is no entry fee for the event but the Chamber encourages folks to register their entry so they can be contacted in case of scheduling changes due to weather. Entries will be taken right up until parade time.
Following the parade, the City of Portales and Portales MainStreet will hold a Commu-nity Christmas Party with food, games, crafts and a visit from Santa Claus. The fun hap-pens until 9:30 p.m. at the Yam Theatre.
The LMMC pageant is Thursday, Dec. 6 at 6 p.m. at the Yam Theatre. At 7 p.m. that evening ENMU’s Christmas Concert will be held at the CUB Ballroom.

Chamber Ambassadors and staff were on hand recently to help Hilary Shirley and her dad Bill Strong cut the ribbon at Edna’s Sewing Basket at 214 S. Main. The business sells fabric, quilting and sewing supplies and offers sewing machine repair. They also do alterations and special projects and classes.
