An international company
With almost 50 years’ experience, Enagás is a midstream company certified as an independent TSO (Transmission System Operator) by the European Union. It is a partner in gas infrastructures in Mexico, Chile, Peru, Sweden and the TAP project, a key gas pipeline in Europe that will connect Greece, Albania and Italy.
In Spain, Enagás is the leading natural gas transmission, regasification and storage company and Technical Manager of the Spanish Gas System.
Enagás is an international benchmark in the development and maintenance of gas infrastructures and the operation and management of gas networks. We make continuous efforts in development and innovation, which we primarily coordinate from our offices in Zaragoza. It is home to our R&D Center, Central Laboratory and our second Data Processing Center (DPC).
Our support for innovation responds to the goal of being more efficient, sustainable and competitive. It also translates into initiatives such as the Open Innovation and Corporate Entrepreneurship Programme, which we have set up to make use of opportunities connected to new uses of natural gas.
This programme covers the creation of an internal and external entrepreneurial system, in which we are involving players from different fields of economics, knowledge and R&D, smart capital and entrepreneurial talent or venture capital.
At the Enagás Technological Center in Zaragoza we have full time professionals with different technical and scientific qualifications and a high level of specialisation, knowledge and experience in natural gas technologies.

At our laboratories we coordinate the services needed for measuring the energy contained in natural gas. Enagás offers these services to companies in the sector, customers and end users, therefore covering and benefiting the whole natural gas value chain.
Our facilities include the High-Pressure Meter Calibration Laboratory (LACAP), a national and international benchmark accredited by the Spanish Accreditation Body (ENAC). Since 2014, it has also been recognised as a “partner laboratory” for the Spanish Metrology Center (CEM) which is part of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism.
The laboratories also have the facilities to carry out meter calibration at atmospheric pressure (up to 20”), household meter calibration, gas samples analysis and instrument trials.

Green Data Center, in support of efficiencyAs Technical Manager of the Spanish Gas System, Enagás is responsible for ensuring the continuity and safety of the natural gas supply in Spain. To reinforce this guarantee, in 2013 the company set up its second Data Processing Center (DPC), the Green Data Center in Zaragoza, interconnected with the DPC in Madrid. Both centers share data through a high-capacity optical fibre loop running along the gas pipeline route and connecting the two cities.
The Enagás Green Data Center is the result of our ongoing efforts in innovation, striving for sustainability and support for efficiency.
Equipped with a Trigeneration Plant running on natural gas, it produces energy for both heating and cooling, used for the heating of the Center and the cooling of the IT equipment.
Its optimum safety and reliability has been recognised with the TIER IV certification and with the LEED certification, one of the most prestigious sustainable construction standards in the world. The Zaragoza DPC is the first in Spain to receive this distinction, and it is a trend-setting center in Europe.
In 2013 this facility also received the DatacenterDynamics (DCD) EMEA Award under the Micro Data Center Innovation category.

These projects fall into the framework of the following lines of work, many of which are related to the measuring services offered at the laboratories.
• Behavioural modelling of natural gas and LNG.
• Measurement of natural gas: volume and energy.
• Characterisation of natural gas: quality and physical properties.
• Natural gas analysis and composition.
• Techno-economic and energy efficiency.
• Safety in the design and operation of gas infrastructures.
• Technological support, elaboration of studies and running of training courses in specific areas.
