zbCOMMA - POSITIONING • Launched on Jan 7, 2009, the
new student paper zbCOMMA is bundled with Lianhe Zaobao to enter schools. It is the revamped product of Friday Weekly, a 17 year old student paper that targeted at secondary school students.
• zbCOMMA is distributed to schools together with ZB, acting as the “bridge” for students to get in touch with Lianhe Zaobao.

zbCOMMA – POSITIONING • The name zbCOMMA (《逗号》)is inspired
by the punctuation “comma”, which is a symbol of transit and continuation. It reflects the student paper‘s objective of continuing its mission to cultivate the interest of newspaper-reading among students, in addition to motivating these young readers to proceed to read Zaobao. (As portrayed in its tagline : 逗号是过渡,更是延续)
• It consists of follow-ups on news in ZB, articles written by ZB reporters and blurbs for ZB news that serve to connect students with ZB.
• zbCOMMA adopts a “three-in-one” approach by presenting news from zbCOMMA, Zaobao News, and online interactions to offer students an enriched reading experience.

zbCOMMA – POSITIONING • The only Chinese weekly targeted at students in secondary schools,
distributed to subscribing schools on Wednesdays during school terms together with ZB.
• Besides adopting a bright and youthful look that appeal to students, zbCOMMA includes features on social issues and youth topics, news, personalities, sports scenes and juvenile court cases that provide an enriching reading experience for students.
• Youth favourites like online videos, apps, trendy stuff, leisure activities and entertainment news are also featured to enhance reading interests.
• Written in simple style with explanation of words and phrases to help improve readers' Chinese vocabulary. 4
USED AS TEACHING AIDS NiE (Newspapers in Education) Project
₋ Collaborates with Ministry of Education to implement NiE project, aimed at empowering teachers to make effective use of Zaobao and zbCOMMA to teach in class. This pilot project kicked off in March 2009, involved 6 secondary schools to bring newspapers teaching into curriculum.

USED AS TEACHING AIDS NiE (Newspapers in Education) Project
₋ Worked with a group of Chinese teachers to develop NiE lesson plans. In order to allow more teachers to implement NiE lessons in creative and fun ways, these lesson plans were compiled into a NiE teacher's guidebook which was launched in November 2009.
₋ The guidebook comes in three volumes (Sec 1-3), each volume consists of teaching aids and powerpoint slides that can be used directly in classroom teaching.
₋ Partners with Singapore Centre for Chinese Language(SCCL) to train teachers on NiE

USED AS TEACHING AIDS NiE (Newspapers in Education) Project − Organize “Newspaper in Education Teachers’ Demonstration Lessons ” on
22 January 2011 with Xinmin Secondary School, with MOE and SCCL as supporting partners.
− A National Newspapers in Education Lesson Plan Design Competition was held in 2012 to encourage the effective and creative use of newspapers in classroom. Winning entries were compiled into a Chinese Lesson Plan Book and distributed free to all Secondary Schools.

O level Chinese Oral Guidebook (《看图说话》《看录像说话》口试指导手册) − In conjunction with the newly implemented secondary schools‘ Chinese
oral examination segment, zbCOMMA enlisted a team of experienced Chinese teachers to contribute practical steps to prepare for the oral exam using news photos and video.
