INNOVATION THAT EMPOWERS YOU!

Page 4: Zegul Kayak 2013 Catelog

In the 1700’s, Russian sailors sailing the Aleutian Islands gave this uniquely-shaped kayak the name„Baidarka” meaning „small boat”. The lower portion of its upswept bow is extremely narrow, allowing for clean entry lines, while the upper bow is fuller and wider, increasing buoyancy, causing the Baidarka to rise over the oncoming waves. Baidarkas are known for their unusually fast speed. With their Swede form shape and high volume stern they produce an incredibly high hull speed.

Our Baidarka is designed for the paddler who desires a unique looking boat with performance, light weight and beauty.

The Baidarka GT introduced for 2012 season is designed keeping touring in mind for day/ weekend trips or even a smaller expedition. The specially designed narrow hull provides you with incredible speed, what was one of the original ideas of these extremely d erent kayak designs – getting fast from A to B whilst enjoying the ride! The best performance of this kayak will appear while paddling downwind and in calm waters.

Sea paddling in Australia is a rich and diverse activity, with thousands of kilometres of unbroken coastline to explore & weather ranging from the sapping humidity of the high tropics to the Antarctic chill of the Southern Ocean.

Unlike many places in the world where paddling is a popular & grow-ing pastime, we have relatively few inland waterways, so sea kayaks in particular do tend to be paddled either on the sea, or in the estuarine waterways fringing the coast.

This exposed coastline means that Australian paddlers must prepare for the rigours of the surf zone, and often makes paddling on the ocean an exercise in finding landings in between long stretches of unland-able cliff or beach. The expedition has historically been the primary focus of most sea kayakers, with wilderness often only an hour’s paddle away from even the largest cities. The climate also dictates that large loads are required, usually in-volving water for multi-day trips, and self sufficiency in food & shelter.

Our paddling has evolved around this long touring ethos, and we’ve only recently seen a distinct focus change towards the more playful,

day tripping aspect of the sport. More manoeuvrable designs have made their way to our shores from overseas and over time, kayakers skills are beginning to adapt to these more sporty boats, as we’re starting to realise just how much fun you can have, especially in rough water, in a sea kayak designed to handle it.

My own perspective as an instructor working mostly on the beaches and along the cliffs just beyond the magnificent Sydney Harbour has been to promote this recent drive for skills with paddlers actively seek-ing out challenging conditions and learning to thrive in more technically demanding water rather than just surviving or avoiding it.

As a paddler with more than 20 years experience & expedition mileage covering most of Australia’s East Coast, it’s heartening to see people realising the benefits in pursing a learning path that takes in the whole breadth of sea kayak-ing from Greenland rolling to surf, rock gardens, racing or maybe even working towards one of the iconic Aussie expeditions like Bass Strait or Cape York.

The Zegul Velocity is a new boat introduced for 2012. The boat is designed to be sporty and fast with

increased stability when compared with other boats in its class, it also has good sea manners, a

generous carrying capacity and the ability to really go fast in a following sea, this is what defi nes this

boat against conventional fast tourers. In other words the Zegul Velocity is focused on paddlers who

want to cover miles in rough water with the option to carry gear for a long haul, do a workout paddle with the boat empty and yet still manage surf and maneuver effectively.

Page 9: Zegul Kayak 2013 Catelog

A fast work out boat, with that extra stability for all of us that do not have the racing background. Also a great choice for beginners or clubs. You can use what ever kind of paddle, if it is an euro-style or a wing. The kayak has one rear hatch, which can be used for gear to go for a shorter trip. The kayak is equipped with a round shape hull and front deck cutaways for a closer, more effi cient stroke.

You have to try out this kayak if you are into Greenland style of paddling. Maybe one of the most well

recognized kayaks on the market today. With the classic lines and low volume it has given many paddlers

the joy and the interest of trying something new, or go “back to basics” traditional design. Zegul Greenland

style kayaks have particularly low volume and a tight fit to Your body, which gives You a full control of

what You are doing and provides You with the feeling of being closer to water than ever. Greenland style

kayaks are designed with classic lines, with the hard chine all the way along the V-bottomed hull. The kayak

decks are designed with low back deck for easy laid back rolls, and rather low volume of the front deck to

help you on the forward rolls. The rocker in the hull design is to ease maneuvers. The Zegul Greenland is

designed for paddlers who want to make the Greenland rolls look easy.

well recognized kayaks on the market today. With the classic lines and low volume it has given many

paddlers the joy and the interest of trying something new, or go “back to basics” traditional design.

Zegul Greenland style kayaks have particularly low volume and a tight fit to Your body, which gives

You a full control of what You are doing and provides You with the feeling of being closer to water

than ever. We built this model at the request of the customers who wanted to use the Greenland for

longer trips and who wanted a larger cockpit. The Greenland GT is based on our original Greenland

model, the increased width adds stability, while maintaining the characteristics that have made the

original Greenland famous. We added the day-hatch and enlarged the rear hatch, increasing its storage

capacity, then gave it a keyhole cockpit for easier entrance and exit.

ZEGUL A-COREThis very versatile construction is built using vacuum technology, which ensures the best weight/strength ratio. This material lay-up increases durability and stiffness of the kayak, absorbing even less energy during paddling and withstanding the most challenging environments.

All ZEGUL A-CORE built kayaks are equipped with sandwich reinforced keel area - ensuring scratch and impact strength. Hull and deck are joined using internally both fiberglass and aramide taping, externally a very robust aramide taping. All decks are built in sandwich construction. (Available for all Zegul kayak models)

ZEGUL A-CORE CONSTRUCTION:

ZEGUL 3D C-CORE

CONSTRUCTIONKayaks built with this method are finished with a clear carbon hull, which takes years of experience to be done correctly From 2012 sea -son we have launched a new 3 dimensional carbon fabric into this construction, giving even tougher and stiffer kayaks. This production method combines vacuum infusion technology with high performance properties of special marine grade epoxy resin and several types of carbon fiber, carbon/aramide and glass multiaxial fabrics to create probably the highest quality carbon core built kayaks in the indus -try. These kayaks are even more versatile than the regular carbon/aramide and carbon built kayaks on the market. The ZEGUL 3D C-CORE kayaks are built using full HD LRA core lay-up in the kayak hulls. Decks are built out of sandwich construction reinforced with carbon/aramide technology.
