Fastforwardtotoday.Myinterestsinpublishingamagazinehavechangedslightly.I’mmoreinterestedincreatingvisualcontentthantext.I’mnotsureifZe-nithwillhavemuchfortextbesidesanintroforeachissue,butthatcanchange.Thepurposeofthis‘zineisn’ttoshowoffthelatestparts,orgetinsideyourfavoriterider’shead.Itissolelytodocumenttheartoffreestylescooterriding.Itwon’tbeperfect,butI’mhavingfundoingitandIhopeyouenjoyit. Thisoneisfortheriderswhohaveperserveredevenwithalltheoddsagainstthem-livinginthesmallestoftowns,withnootherridersaround,havingtodealwiththemosthumidofheat,andcoldestofsnow.ThatishowIcameupandIhopethesepagesinspireotherslikemetocontinuethejourneyscooterridingis.

Spring It was a long, cruel winter for the Midwest. The snow came early, hard, and often. As soon as it would melt, Mother Nature, as if taunt-ing us, would drop another layer of the white stuff. Even if the snow managed to dissipate long enough for us riders to once again feel the glide of polyurethane on concrete, the frigid temperatures and biting wind would force us back inside all too quickly. At long last, the snow and ice retreated to their earthly graves. But that didn’t mean the end of bad weather. We had to endure weeks of seemingly endless rain, day after day of showers, washing away any hopes to get outside to ride. Winter blues had turned into Spring blues. As the school year wound down, the weather gradually im-proved. Once again we took to the streets and parks, not sure if we could trust the weather to stay complacent. And a few of us couldn’t, as some parts of the Midwest experienced a rare and heartbreaking snowfall in the month of May. But, after impatiently waiting, waiting, wating for our time to come...it did. Glorious rays of sunshine graced our skin, beautiful birdsongs caressed our ears, and the sight of street spots, new and old, dazzled our eyes. We tossed the layers of jackets, long sleeved shirts, gloves and hats aside. We were able to partake in one of life’s greatest pleasures- the first car ride after winter with the windows rolled down. We were able to ride scooters.
