Founded by Armand Zildjian in 1983, the Zildjian Sound Lab is a nexus of creative inspiration and state-of-the-art technology where highly skilled craftsmen work closely with the world’s top players to produce cutting-edge innovations in cymbal design. The process begins with the secret Zildjian alloy formulated nearly 390 years ago. Using processes refined over centuries as well as modern cymbal making techniques, the Sound Lab designs and develops classic and modern cymbal lines that are played by the greatest drummers throughout the world. The Sound Lab’s meticulous attention to every

detail of cymbal making doesn’t end with the shaping, hammering, and lathing of metal. The finest technicians in the world sound test every cymbal in the Lab as well as on the road and in studios with artists to ensure the quality and precision of Zildjian’s distinctive sound palette. These concentrated R&D efforts have culminated in the development of the company’s most sought after cymbal lines throughout the years, including A Custom, K Custom, and K Constantinople, and continue to fuel the development of each new generation of innovative sounds.

ZIldjIan CasT bRonZEwhAT IS ThE DIFFERENCE?CasT alloY: 80% COPPER, 20% TIN, TRACES OF SILVERCast Bronze cymbals are individually poured and cast from raw molten metal. The casting is cooled and sorted by weight for each cymbal model. Castings are then put through a complex sequence of heating, rolling, shaping, hammering, and lathing techniques unique to each cymbal range. Cast Bronze cymbals have a rich, complex, full-bodied sound that improves with age.

GEn16 While electronic drums have been around for years, the Gen16 acoustic Electric (aE) Cymbal system is a completely new instrument. Unlike most existing electronic percussion systems, the aE Cymbal is not a sample trigger device. instead, it’s an actual cymbal that can be struck with conventional sticks, mallets, and brushes or played in unconventional ways such as with fingers or cello bow.
