A Place of Belonging...
Do not be afraid; for see-- I am bringing you
good news of great joy for all the people: to
you is born this day in the city of David a
Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord. This
will be a sign for you: you will find a child
wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a man-
ger.
Luke 2:10-12
The message is clear, it is good news of
great joy. Not news. Not joy. Not
even joyful news. It is good new of
great joy. As the angels approach the
shepherds in the fields, they prepare them for what lies ahead,
good news of great joy.
That is not what we typically expect to hear when it comes to
the news. The news we typically hear causes us to fell anxious
or be afraid. The shepherds must have certainly been expecting
bad news because they are first told to not be afraid. This was
not a message of bad news, but of good news of great joy.
It is easy to become cynical and expect that all news is bad
news. It is easy to expect to hear or read about the evil in the
world each morning. It is easy to pass it off as the way the
world is always going to be. It’s harder to take the words of
God’s messengers seriously and be expectant of good news of
great joy.
I would encourage everyone this holiday season to not only ex-
pect good news but be bearers of good news. Spread the joy of
the Christmas season. Spread the joy of good news. Spread the
joy of good in our world. Spread the joy of life lived in Christ.
Happy Holidays,
Pr. Andrew

Old Business Membership Roster – Pastor had a list of 8 individuals (Penny Klug, McNeil family and Burke family) listed on the membership roster that we have no contact information listed and they have not been in attendance or contributed for over three years. Pastor asked to take them off of the membership roster. LaRita Lang made a motion to remove these 8 individuals from Zion membership roster. John Borgmann seconded. The motion passed. Randy Strauss will call the other members on the inactive list. Randy will let the Council know what he finds out after making the phone calls. The Council will then send a letter to these individuals. New Business Preliminary budgets – Pastor asked for committee budgets. Worship committee meets on November 8 and they will finalize their budget. Julia will ask the Education committee about their budget. Council for 2019 – Byron will run for Council. Rob’s term is up, so we will need one more person to run. Let Pastor know if you know of anyone interested. It is hoped that the Deacon position can be removed in the coming years. This would take a vote by the congregation. It is hoped this can be done in 2020.
