Why should Zontians be interested in UN?

• UN Charter and Universal Declaration Of Human Rights 1948: Article 1, Article 2... comply with Objectives of Zonta International

• Zonta International Bylaws Article II: all four objects – to improve the status of women, to promote justice , to foster ethical standards - can be sustainably fulfilled with cooperation with UN.

• ZI one of the most important international NGOs, who supports the target group women and girls worldwide and one of the very few NGOs that provides financial support to the UN!

HEALT – POVERTY -– HUNGER - VIOLENCE

40 Mio. births per annum are not registered according to estimates of WHO; consequently serious lack of knowledge concerning the well being of mothers and children.This data gap renders improvement of women‘s health most difficult.The role of women in the areas of nursing and health care is greatly underestimated. In addition, women‘s work in particular in these areas is gravely underpaid.Consequently: The homes have not enough income leading to financial dependence and exploitation!

- ZI Statement on women's rights and non-state terrorist groups The 2014-2016 Zonta International Board released a statement, calling for the United Nations and its Member States to commit to stopping violence against women in conflicts and to find effective short-term working methods to stop non-state terrorist groups. We encourage clubs to read statements from Zonta International and discuss them at the club level.

The "2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development" will be officially adopted by the General Assembly at the United Nations Summit to adopt the post-2015 development agenda in New York, 25-27 September 2015. Zonta International's focus is on Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.
