Dear Sister Zontians, my thanks go to all of you who put your trust in me and elected me as District 17 Governor at the District Conference in Laoag in the Philippines, October 2007.

In February 2008, I attended the Governors-Elect Orientation in Chicago, being close to ZI Board Team and 31 other District Governors from all over the world. It was a clear proof that Zonta has spread world-wide withefficientgroupofwomencomingtogetherandtryingto make the world a better place to live in.

Back from the training I passed on what I learned there by organizing a training course in Hong Kong for our Board Members of District 17 which turned out to be very fruitful. All of us joined in the fellowship trips that followed. Sight - seeing and shopping were arranged for us by Area 2 Director, Margaret Lueng who took us to Shenzhen & Macau. We found that our sister Zontians in Area 2 are really kind and hospitable.

Between June 27 to July 2, 2008, many of us joined ZI Convention in Rotterdam, the Netherlands where I was inaugurated as District 17 Governor. There were two happeningstherewhichfilledDistrict17memberswithpride.OliviaFerry(firstZIPresidentfromAsia)presidedover and carried out the Convention very successfully. AndVirmadeDioswasnominated fromthefloorandwas elected as ZI Director after her inspiring speech. Here in Rotterdam I had a good chance to know many of our district members better, and we held our firstDistrict Board Meeting there.

Back home we began planning for the 2008 – 2010 Biennium by cooperating with Lt. Governor Beng Puyat, District Treasurer Frances Monje, all 6 Area Directors and3DistrictSecretariestosetupClubOfficers’andPresidents’ Trainings from June 29 to August 15, 2008. We launched the District 17 Vision and Mission, 2008 – 2010. During the trainings, we had a good chance to meet Zontians of many clubs and to visit many interesting projects such as Flying High - Women Employment Project, Direction Association for the Handicapped Activity Centre, Pink Project:WomenandChildrenFriendlyCenter(WCFC)and Zonta Makati and Environs Community Center. Theyareallverybeneficialtothecommunitiesbywayof social work. More details about them will be given in our next issue.

I would like to thank all concerned in organizing ClubOfficers’andPresidents’Trainingsforthe6Areasin our District 17. I am certain that from now on our Area Leaders and Club Leaders are well-equipped for achieving success in doing good deeds for their communities, according to Zonta International goal, toadvancethestatusofwomenworld-widethroughserviceandadvocacy.
