The Church is a living breathing organ-ism that is not defined by organizations, it has foundation but is mobile traveling to all

parts of the world, and it propels hopes and dreams while asking the believer to trust in something and someone you cannot see.

In contrast the world in which we live has a temporary mask with an illusion that tempts us all to believe that it offers more than it is capable of delivering. The biggest appeal of this world is the commonality of thought that each and every one of us has the same level playing field in which to op-erate.

The world has an intimate connection to flesh and blood for it was from the dust of the earth we came leading us to over in-vest in the here and now. Searching for bal-ance between the world and the Church is akin to finding a diamond in the rough.

So here we are in 2012 asking the world to consider the Church as an answer to the mystery that is life itself. We are settled on the fact that the Church is the answer for the world even when the world does not under-stand that it is in need of an answer to the unasked question; why am I here?

In the beginning all of creation was called into existance by the Word of God. God created order and purpose out of chaos and void. The order that God established in creation set the tone for all things that exist – particularly, those who exist in Him.

The God inspired theme for Zion in 2012 is “The Call to Order.” It will be the scope through which we view quarterly and monthly studies at Zion Temple.

Shift from Local to Global Thinking

God is a global God. He has al-ways cared about the entire world. “God so loved the world....” (John 3:16) From the beginning he has want-ed family members from every nation he created. The Bible says, “From one person God made all nations who live on earth, and he decided when and where every nation would be.” (acts 17:26 CEV)

God has done all this, so that we will look for him and reach out and find him.

Much of the world already thinks globally. The largest media and busi-ness conglomerates are all multi-na-tional. Our lives are increasingly intertwined with those in other nations as we share fash-ions, entertainment,

deacon Oris McMillian, a native of detroit, Michigan, was born June 4, 1935. He is the youngest of three brothers. He re-sided in California 36 years and then he and his wife moved to the denver area about 15 years ago. Shortly thereafter they became members of the Zion Temple Pentecostal apostolic Church.

deacon McMillian was baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost at an early age. He grew up attending church services—Sunday school, Sunday morning & evening worship services, young Peoples union, Bible class, Saints meetings, Prayer meet-ings, Revivals, Councils, and Conventions. He has been a willing and faithful worker in the church. at Zion Temple, deacon Mc-Millian has served as a deacon, member of the Board of directors, and member of the Baptismal Team. He has been a member of the Men’s Ministry, Outreach Ministry, Seniors With Purpose Ministry, and Chris-tian Education department. He actively assisted in the operation of Zion Temple’s Food Pantry and faithfully attended noon-day prayer after retirement.

deacon McMillian served two years as a Medic in the united States army. He was married to Sister Curtis on Mother’s day, May 13, 1962. They are looking forward to celebrating 50 years of marriage this year. deacon McMillian is the father of two sons, alan and Vincent. He has one granddaugh-ter and one grandson.

deacon McMillian has a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. He did his graduate studies in law. He received his license as a Certified Public accountant (C.P.a.) in 1964 but continued his career with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as an Internal Revenue agent; appeals Offi-cer; associate Chief, San Francisco appeals Office; Chief, Sacramento appeals Office; and finally Chief, Rocky Mountain ap-peals Office with responsibility for a 5 state area. He has received numerous awards for achievement and outstanding performance. He holds the distinction of being the first african american to be appointed to the position of Chief appeals Office (IRS). He was also an instructor at Los angeles Com-munity college a number of years. He was selected and included in “Who’s Who in California” and International “Who’s Who of Professionals”.

We’re more connected than we realize and God can use that connectedness as a means for us to fulfill his Great Commission. Jesus gave us a pattern for such involve-ment: “you will tell everyone about me in Jerusalem, in all Judea, in Samaria, and ev-erywhere in the world.” (acts 1:8 CEV)

His followers are to reach out to their community (Jerusalem), to their country (Judea), to other cultures (Samaria) and to

other nations (everywhere in the world). note that our commission is simultaneous, not sequential. We are called to be on mis-sion to all four groups in some way.

How would you identify these groups in your community? What nations do you believe God has called you to serve in some form?

First and foremost I thank the Lord for what He has done. It is His sacrifice at Cal-vary that has made all that we do possible.

as the newly appointed youth Pastor at Zion Temple I stand before you not of my own goodness but solely in the grace of God. an opportunity such as this is both humbling and sobering. Humbling in that I realize that God has chosen me to stand before a portion of His vineyard, charged with the responsibility to assist my Pastor in his efforts of feed the flock of God. It is sobering because I understand that what we do in life echoes in eternity.

With that, I’ll give you the high level vision God has placed in my spirit for the youth here at Zion and those we influence.

Salvation, Holiness, Righteousness, Chris-tian Charity etc., I know that in today’s highly educated, super sophisticated world these terms are deemed elementary and archaic but in the economy of God these words make up the foundation the shed-ding of His blood built at the cross. It is my endeavor to do all I can in the area of Kingdom building, in its truest since, help-ing souls to be birthed into the kingdom. In the book of Matthew Jesus describes the condition the world would be prior to His return, “but as the days of noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.” The day we live in is a mirror image of noah’s day. The adversary of our souls is running rampant in the schools, immoral-ity is everywhere and man is doing all he can not to keep God in his consciousness. Sounds like rapture season to me!

Please understand that I believe in hav-ing fun and certainly plan to do so with our youth but not at the expense of fulfilling our first God given obligation, preparing them for the world to come.

ProPhecy - A Gift to the Body of christ

Give and it will be given to you

“Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return” (Luke 6:38). Few Scripture verses are quoted more often than Luke 6:38 regarding giving and receiv-ing. does it really mean what it seems to say? does God promise to give to us abun-dantly? do God’s promises depend on our giving first? What about those who have nothing to give? does that mean that they will receive nothing from the Lord?

The promise by Jesus recorded in Luke 6:38 was not made exclusively to the rich, spiritual, gifted, or talented. It was a prom-ise to anyone who would apply its prin-ciples. although the promise does include prerequisites, they are not prerequisites that involve one’s spiritual maturity or social status. The prerequisites are ones of action: give first, then you will receive.

Generally Christians in america are divided into five giving types or giving groups. • The first group gives either nothing or

very little (far less than 10 percent of their incomes) to work being done in the Lord’s name. Most american Christians belong to this group.

• The second group gives at least 10 per-cent of their incomes regularly but sel-dom experiences what can be considered God’s abundant material supply or spiri-tual bounty.

• The third group gives at least 10 percent of their incomes and can identify times when God has given to them both mate-rial and spiritual abundance.

• The fourth group is small. This group gives far above 10 percent of their in-comes but seldom identifies with God’s abundant material return.

• The fifth group is even smaller. This group gives far above 10 percent of their incomes and identifies with God’s mate-rial and spiritual abundant return.

Those who give nothing or less than 10 percent of their income have, by their lack of giving, limited what God can do for them according to His Word. “Will a man rob God? yet you are robbing Me! But you say, ‘How have we robbed you?’ In tithes and offerings” (Malachi 3:8). Paul the apostle amplifies the same admonition. “now I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap spar-ingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully” (2 Corinthians 9:6). The lack of giving is an external indicator that there is something wrong spiritually.

ence God’s abundant supply are meeting God’s prerequisites for where they are in their spiritual growth at that time. as they continue to grow and as God continues to teach them, the outward material abun-dance may change, as different lessons need to be learned.

Some of those who give far beyond 10 percent of their income and do not experi-ence God’s abundance could be giving with the wrong motive. They may be trying to bribe God; they require and even demand God’s blessings because they gave, as they say, sacrificially. They are not in subjec-tion to God but are trying to exercise con-trol over Him. Others in this category, who give abundantly but receive little physical evidence of God’s return, may receive that return in other ways. These could include excellent health, a good and stable job, children and family who are committed to Christ, a car that seldom needs repairs, and so on.

Those who give abundantly and re-ceive abundance in return from the Lord generally give because they desire to give, and although they may expect back from the Lord they do not demand it or become discouraged if they do not receive it in the manner or bounty they expected. Their giv-ing is out of a desire to please God, not to profit from their relationship with Him. They are thankful when God gives back to them and show their thanks by giving back to God even more than they had given be-fore the blessing. yet, they are also thank-ful even if God gives them nothing mate-rially in return and will continue to give abundantly. Many in this group go through periods of overflowing abundance from the Lord, as well as long periods of no abun-dant return. In either period, they continue to give because their desire is to give to the Lord’s work. If they receive an abun-dant return from the Lord, they feel that the return was given so that they can give more. If they do not receive an abundant return, they know that they are in the midst of a time of training and learning from the Lord for the next life stage that He has for them. as such, they usually conclude that their giving must not decrease but, rather, it should increase.

ConClusion

The spiritual principles behind Luke 6:38 are indeed giving and receiving, but we do not give to receive. The prerequisites to receiving are found in Luke 6:27-37. a Christian who lives by these principles practices the surrendered life. Therefore, the giving is simply a material expression of the deeper spiritual obedience to Christ. nearly every Christian desires to be obe-dient to God, and in many ways most are. However, Christ warned us that one of the greatest threats to our walk with God is the appeal of the materialistic world. “The one on whom seed was sown among the thorns, this is the man who hears the word, and the worry of the world and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes un-fruitful” (Matthew 13:22). I Praise God for another opportunity to share His word. “I will praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are your works, and that my soul knows very well.” Psalm 139:14

God created each of us for a specific purpose. We were created to worship God and to serve in His kingdom. understanding your specific purpose and role according to God’s plan should be the desire of every Saint. Through study and attendance in a school of min-istry I was able to learn more about the apostolic Model that God established, the Five Fold Ministry. Over the next year, I will share what I have learned and hope to encourage you to seek God for your specific purpose, as I will continue to do as well.

The Five Fold Ministry, given to us by God in Ephesians 4:11-12:11 “and He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and

some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ”

WHAT IS A PROPHET? a prophet is one who is sent or given by the Spirit of God, a spokesperson. a founda-

tional Gift of God to prophetically set order and declare the mind and will of God. There is a prophetic office as given in Ephesians, there is also a spirit of prophesy as shown in Revelation 19:10, “I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”

WHO MAY PROPHESY?anyone who has permission and has been given a word from God may prophesy. Re-

member there is etiquette and order in the house of God. Respect must be given to the Pas-tor and the church. Generally if you hold the office of prophet or are known to have the gift of prophesy, you may have advanced permission from the pastor of the church to prophesy. Sometimes if there is a strong presence of God within a worship service, God may use anyone to prophesy. In the case where there is not an expectation or familiarity for one to prophesy; permission should be requested before prophesying.

SPEAK ONLY WHAT GOD HAS GIVEN TO YOU TO SHAREThe most important thing to remember if you prophesy is to only speak the words given

to you by God. But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.’ deuteronomy 18:20

It is essential to be very specific and particular about which words to use. Learning how to weigh your words is key. It is vital to not elaborate or add explanations- only give what information God has provided to you. Submission is a central cornerstone for the office of the prophet. While other offices of the five fold ministry should all be in total submission to God, it is especially important for the prophetic office to have total submission. Being acutely tuned into God will allow you to be trained by Him to take the smallest, most spe-cific instruction. Following instruction to the ‘T’ is imperative because this will allow you to discover the subtle things God wants you to know and share.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF PROPHESY?Prophecy brings forth maturing of the body of Christ, as this is one of a prophet’s

passions- to mature the body of Christ. Prophets also benefit others through intercession. Prophets benefit the body of Christ by uplifting and encouraging saints through sharing mes-sages of God’s goodness, mercy and love.

deacon McMillian has a remark-able testimony of how God spared his life. He testifies “I thank God for bless-ing me to survive an auto accident when I fell asleep while driving. My car plunged from an overpass and landed in front of an 18-wheeler truck which blew out two tires to keep from hitting my car.” and God’s mercy continues for deacon McMillian. about 25 years ago, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He has had numer-ous treatments and is presently taking treat-ment. God has truly blessed him because when he retired, 13 years ago, it was not because of his health; it was because he was ready to retire after 43 years of service. The last three years have been challenging, but he thanks God for each day. Many have heard him say “But for God, I would not be here. God has given doctors the skills and the knowledge needed to treat sickness and

disease, but he is the ultimate HEaLER. He is the Lord of my life and my life is in his hands.”

I would like to introduce you to Res-toration Foundation for Victims. We are a newly founded nonprofit organization pur-posed to assist women and men who are victims of childhood molestation, rape and sexual assault.

The Mission of Restoration Founda-tion for Victims is to:

• Enhance public awareness about rape and sexual assault in our communities;

• Help survivors communicate in the re-covery of rape and sexual assault;

• assist in the prevention, healing and elimination of sexual victimization through support, advocacy and activ-ism; and

• Help limit the destabilizing effects of rape and sexual assault on victims, fam-ilies, and communities.

Our programs are essential for the building up and restoration of these victims and include:

• 30-day Job Shadowing Program(s) – Job shadowing is an opportunity for our clients to connect or “shadow” with business professionals (mentors) who have specific knowledge about their occupations of interest. The process involves observing responsibilities and tasks associated with the career choice and asking questions about the require-ments for the job, trends in the field, etc.

• Group Therapy Sessions – Group ther-apy sessions offer counseling, therapy and a series of support and educational groups that are designed to empower the abused individuals and to assist them in making choices in their lives that will allow for happiness, growth, and safety. Group counseling will teach our clients how to end their isolation, gain self esteem, affirm themselves and know they are not to blame. Clients will begin to feel empowered through group support and education. Learning that other people care, can help break the chain of harmful dependencies. Group therapy also focuses on safety and as-sists clients in developing their own personal safety plan.

• Individual Therapy Sessions - Individu-al therapy helps clarify what our clients want to understand about themselves and what they want to change behav-

iorally. Goals and outcomes are estab-lished to help identify blind spots and self-defeating behaviors that may in-terfere with their happiness. I’m still young though and I need to have fun surely God can understand that. I mean I must still be able to continue to go out to the nightclubs and bars, see my friends and have a good time.

Can’t I?”The answer is once you are saved and

accepted Jesus as your Savior your life is no longer your own. you are required to live holy Godly lives and follow biblical principles, and that means not doing the things that you use to do such as going to the nightclubs, bars, get-ting drunk, listening to ungodly music that may have bad language, and having sex outside of marriage. 1 Thessalo-nians 4:7 says ‘For God did not call us to be im-pure, but to live a holy life. Therefore he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his holy spirit.’

Jeremiah 1:5-7 says ‘”Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.’ now God called Jeremiah to be a prophet for the people in Jerusalem and Judah, how-ever Jeremiah did not want this assignment and this was his response to God regard-ing this calling on his life, “ah, Sovereign Lord,” I said, “I do not know how to speak I am only a child.” Jeremiah was saying to the Lord. ‘Lord I can’t be a prophet, I don’t know what to do and besides I’m too young for this calling.’ But God says ‘do not say, I am only a child.’ you must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you.’ God is saying to Jeremiah I have called you to be a prophet and it doesn’t matter about your age. This is the plan I have for your life and this is what I require you to do. God didn’t give Jeremiah any special treatment because he was young. God com-manded him to fulfill this calling and Jer-emiah knew that he had to obey God’s com-mand. Once you accept Jesus as your Savior God will not give you any special treatment because you are young. He requires you to put his word into practice, to live the holy life He has called you to live.

The word ‘holy’ refers to being sepa-rated, set apart to the service of God; righ-teous, pure; god-like.

I accepted Christ as my Savior at a young age. I can understand that you maybe finding it difficult to live a holy life because of your age. Especially if you go to college or secondary school and you are constant-ly surrounded by people who are doing or

talking about ungodly things, and because you do not participate in their activities they think that you’re weird or boring. They will also tell you that you should start ‘Living a little’ or ‘you’re too young life is short, have some fun.’ Their right about one thing life is short. In all honesty you are never too young to die. When I got people telling me that ‘I’m too young, I must start having some fun,’ or ‘I am boring’ I would say I rather be boring and go to heaven where there would be ev-erlasting peace and happiness than join the crowd and go to hell where there is everlast-ing torment and torture.

But the truth is with some of your friends most of them wish that they had what you have. The Sanctification Process - Once you made the decision to give your life to Christ the Holy Spirit beings to sanctify you and he also cleanses you through his Word.

John 17:17says ‘Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.’ and Romans 15:16 says ‘Sanctified by the Holy Spirit’. The sanctification process is a continual process. a good definition of sanctification is: means to make holy. you have to begin to turn away from sin, turn away from your ungodly past and start living a brand new life in Christ. as a young person admittedly at first it is difficulty leaving behind the ac-tivities that you’re so use to, you may start having thoughts of what your friends or family may think of you, and how they treat you. you will experience isolation from others as they will not understand what you are doing, however the wonderful thing you will see is the change within yourself how you use to be and where God has brought you from, which is your sanctification pro-cess. The things that you use to do you want to do them no more, you want to start living for God and you will have a more fulfilled and purposed life.

I will not pretend to you and say that I didn’t feel lonely and that I didn’t miss my friends especially being a young adult; how-ever God will bring new Christian friends your way. Churches have youth groups and activities which will be fantastic for you to get involved in and it is a great way for you to meet new people and make friends. at

A Passionate Christian Woman

What is a passionate Christian woman? Well, she’s not a woman who’s perfect, peerless or guiltless, but as human as you and me. a passionate Christian woman simply has a pas-sion for the things of God and is driven to do something about it.

This woman thirsts for God. God is the driving force of her existence, the meaning be-hind her life. She doesn’t live primarily for the latest fads, fashions, or fancies, but for God. She cares little for fame or fortune, recognition or reward. Instead, she has experienced the intense satisfaction of a personal relationship with a holy God, and as a deer longs for a cool, refreshing stream to enjoy, so she longs for her God.

She hungers for Truth. In a mixed-up world where wrong often seems right, a passion-ate believer pursues God’s Truth with intensity. never one to accept mere human opinion or feeling-based experience, she considers God’s Word to be as necessary to her as her daily food. She has a Berean mindset (acts 17:11), persistently compares the spoken word to the written Word, and sifts it to find the Truth.

a passionate Christian woman is passionate about the Bible, for therein God has re-vealed His heart and mind for mankind. She loves others with godly passion. She demon-strates sincere concern, models unconditional love, and does her utmost to influence those around her for heaven. She doesn’t portray one who has arrived, but one who knows where she’s going. Then she coaxes and encourages and helps others to join her on her journey.

Her love is practical, pure and positive. The motivation for her outreach is her up-reach to God, and she does it with fervency and attention to detail. She lives today with tomorrow in mind. a passionate Christian woman knows her time is limited. She is acutely aware that her life is as a drop in the bucket of time and eternity. She will pass off the scene all too quickly with only her influence remaining.

So she lives each day to its fullest with this goal in mind: to follow hard on the heels of the very God in whom we live and breathe and have our being. This woman lives with a vengeance, committed to going out with a bang instead of a whimper. She fulfills today’s duties while focusing on the future.

Finally, a passionate Christian woman avoids sin so she can gain intimacy with God. Though the world allures and tempts, this believer knows her boundaries and accepts her playground.

She doesn’t walk the fence row, desirous of the apple across the way. She romps and ranges in the field God has given her, content to run home at the end of the day with clean hands and a pure conscience.

Is this a description of a perfect Christian woman? no, but of a passionate one. These women don’t have boundless energy, super-human strength, or a superior spirituality. In fact, they are utterly ordinary ones who fail, fall, and are tired at the end of the day. They are tested and found wanting all too often. But they have heard from God through His Word, seen Him work in their lives, and have experienced peace, answered prayer, and comfort through the Holy Spirit. now their heart is fixed, their commitment firm, their joy complete. They learn and grow, and find purpose in mundane tasks and the everyday routine of liv-ing.

a passionate Christian woman thirsts after God, hungers for His Word, has a sincere concern for others, and lives today with tomorrow in mind. She avoids sin so she can main-tain a close relationship with her Creator and Lord. She is a passionate believer living a purposeful life. She is alive with a passion for God!

as we begin 2012, as each day goes by we are getting closer to the second coming of our Lord. This is the day that we as the body of Christ have been waiting for all of our life. Will we be ready? are we giving 100%? When the trumpet sounds, will we be sitting at home watching a football game, when we should have been in church. are we living the life of a soldier in the Lords army fighting everyday trying to win souls over for the kingdom of Heaven? Lets just think about this for a minute. are we put-ting Christ first in everything that we do, or are we putting Christ as a second or third priority when it comes to the playoff game, or american idol, or even the nuggets vs. the Bulls? We as the men of Zion Temple have to set the example. are we reaching out to our visitors and new members asking them to join us at our Men’s Ministry meet-ing this weekend, or are we not going to be there ourselves?

Goodbye to Me

The early Christians began remember-ing the Resurrection every Sunday follow-ing its occurrence. In a.d. 325, the Coun-cil of nicaea set aside a special day just to celebrate the Resurrection. The problem with an official day was deciding whether the Resurrection should be celebrated on a weekday or always on a Sunday.

Many felt that the date should continue to be based on the timing of the Resurrec-tion during Passover. Once Jewish leaders determined the date of Passover each year, Christian leaders could set the date for Eas-ter by figuring three days after Passover. Following this schedule would have meant that Easter would be a different day of the week each year, only falling on a Sunday once in awhile.

Other believed since the Lord rose on a Sunday and this day had been set aside as the Lord’s day, this was the only pos-sible day to celebrate His resurrection. as Christianity drew away from Judaism, some were reluctant to base the Christian celebration on the Jewish calendar.

Finally the Council decided Easter should be celebrated on the Sunday fol-lowing the first full moon after the vernal equinox. Since the date of the vernal equi-nox changed from year to year, calculating the proper date can be difficult. This is still the method used to determine Easter today, which is why some years we have Easter earlier than other years.

Since Easter is a celebration of Je-sus’ Resurrection, you would think there wouldn’t be room for paganism. However Easter is one of the holidays most inter-twined with pagan symbolism and ritual.

The origin of the word Easter isn’t certain. The Vernerable Bede, an eighth-century monk and scholar, suggested that the word may have come from the anglo-Saxon Eeostre or Eastre – a Teutonic god-dess of spring and fertility. Recent scholars haven’t been able to find any reference to the goddess Bede mentioned and consider the theory discredited.

another possibility is the norse eostur, eastur, or ostara, which meant “the season of the growing sun” or “the season of new birth.” The word east comes from the same roots. In this case, Easter would be linked

to the changing of the season.a more recent and complex explana-

tion comes from the Christian background of Easter rather than the pagan. The early Latin name for the week of Easter was heb-domada alba or “white week,” while the Sunday after Easter day was called domi-nica in albis from the white robes of those who had been newly baptized. The word alba is Latin both for white and dawn. People speaking Old High German made a mistake in their translation and used a plural word for dawn, ostarun, instead of a plural for white. From ostarun we get the German Ostern and the English Easter.

Easter BunnyWhat is the first thing that comes

to mind when you think of Easter? as a Christian, the first image might be the cross or the empty tomb. For the general public, a blitz of media images and merchandise on store shelves makes it more likely that the Easter Bunny comes to mind. So how did a rabbit distributing eggs become a part of Easter?

There are several reasons for the rab-bit, or hare, to be associated with Easter, all of which come through pagan celebrations or beliefs. The most obvious is the hare’s fertility. Easter comes during spring and celebrates new life. The Christian mean-ing of new life through Christ and a general emphasis on new life are different, but the two gradually merged. any animals – like the hare – that produced many offspring were easy to include.

The hare is also an ancient symbol for the moon. The date of Easter depends on the moon. This may have helped the hare to be absorbed into Easter celebrations.

The hare or rabbit’s burrow helped the animal’s adoption as part of Easter celebra-tions. Believers saw the rabbit coming out of its underground home as a symbol for Jesus coming out of the tomb. Perhaps this was another case of taking a pre-existing symbol and giving it Christian meaning.

The Easter hare came to america with German immigrants, and the hare’s role passed to the common american rabbit. Originally children made nests for the rab-bit in hats, bonnets, or fancy paper boxes,

rather than the baskets of today. Once the children finished their nests, they put them in a secluded spot to keep from frightening the shy rabbit. The appealing nests full of colored eggs probably helped the customs to spread.

Back in Southern Germany, the first pastry and candy Easter bunnies became popular at the beginning of the nineteenth century. This custom also crossed the at-lantic, and children still eat candy rabbits – particularly chocolate ones – at Easter.

Easter Eggsnext to the Easter bunny, the most fa-

miliar symbol is the Easter egg. Like oth-ers, the egg has a long pre-Christian his-tory. again there’s no certainty as to why it became associated with Easter.

Many ancient cultures viewed eggs as a symbol of life. Hindus, Egyptians, Persians, and Phoenicians believed the world begun with an enormous egg. The Persians, Greeks, and Chinese gave gifts of eggs during spring festivals in celebration of new life all around them. Other sources say people ate dyed eggs at spring festivals in Egypt, Persia, Greece, and Rome. In an-cient druid lore, the eggs of serpents were sacred and stood for life.

Early Christians looked at the connec-tion eggs had to life and decided eggs could be a part of their celebration of Christ’s res-urrection. In addition, in some areas, eggs were forbidden during Lent; therefore, they were a delicacy at Easter. Since many of the earlier customs were Eastern in origin, some speculate that early missionaries or knights of the Crusade may have been re-sponsible for bringing the tradition to the West.

In the fourth century, people presented eggs in church to be blessed and sprinkled with holy water. By the twelfth century, the Benedictio Ovorum had been intro-duced authorizing the special use of eggs on the holy days of Easter. The timing of this blessing would uphold the idea that Crusaders may have brought the tradition back. Even though eggs had been used previously, the Crusaders may have made the custom more popular and widespread.

Romans 8:6 -8 which says “For to be car-nally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace..So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.”

Philippians 4:8 “Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, what-ever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praise-worthy think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me put it into practice. and the peace of God be with you.”

Ephesians 4:22 says: “you were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off our old self, which is being corrupt-ed by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

These are just to start you off with as you study the word of God for yourselves you may find other scriptures that you should memorize concerning the renewal of your mind set and put it into practice.

God has work for all of us, whether it be singing in the choir, being an usher, and even being in the ministry. So just ask ourselves, are we doing what God wants, or are we doing what we want? are we putting Christ first in our lives, or are we putting our lives before Christ? Will we be ready for the returning of the Lord? Will we hear the words “Job well done my good and faithful servant” WILL WE BE REady?

God you too must be obedient, especially to those God has put in a position of authority over you; such as your parents or teachers. despite the fact you are in a society, where your peers may be disobedient to authority. For example if your parents have told you to come home at a certain time, it’s not for you to ignore their request; it is for you to do as they say. also if your teacher is ex-pecting you to complete your homework on a certain date it is for you to complete your homework on that day. no you are not a ‘teacher’s pet’ or ‘a goody too shoes’ you are portraying the character of Christ. Re-member you are ‘in the world but you are not of the world.’

Let your mindset change from ‘I’m too young’ into ‘I’m never too young’ to do what God requires of me. do not be ashamed that you are living for God even if people around you do not understand it.

Moravian immigrants brought the custom to america, with the first service in the united States held in 1743.

Easter LiliesThe Easter lily is another new addi-

tion to Easter celebrations. Throughout the years, painters and sculptors used the white Madonna lily to symbolize purity and in-nocence, frequently referring to Mary. This lily doesn’t force well, so nurseries couldn’t get the flower to bloom in time Easter.

In the 1880s, Mrs. Thomas Sargent brought Bermuda lily bulbs back to Phila-delphia. a local nurseryman, William Har-ris, saw the lilies and introduced them to the trade. a more practical consideration was that they were easy to force into bloom in time for the Easter season. From there, they Bermuda lily, now the familiar Easter lily spread throughout the country.

Ingredients1: Cantaloupe or Honeydew melon, halved and seeded1/2 cup fresh pineapple or kiwi cubes1/2 cup of blueberries1/4 cup low-fat lemon yogurt2 bananas2 tablespoons honey(optional)1 cup crispy cold cereal, such as granola

Equipmentsmall ice-cream scoopPlate or baking sheetMeasuring cupssmall bowl for mixing fruitspoonPlastic knife for slicing fruitsmall serving bowlsspoon or honey dipper for drizzing honey

Instructions1) use a small ice-cream scoop to scoop out rounds of melon. Place the melon scoops on a plate or baking sheet and store in the freezer while you prepare the banana and toppings2) (KIDs) In a small bowl, toss to-gether the pineapple cubes, and the blueberries. stir in the yogurt. set aside.3) (KIDs) use a plastic knife to cut the bananas in half, crosswire. Cut each half in half again, lenthwise. Place 2 banan pieces in teh bottom of a4 small bouls. tOp with the scoops of melon from the freezer.4) (KIDs) spoon the pineapple mix-ture over the melon. Ingredients1 egg¼ c. milkdash of vanilla extract1 tbsp. margarine2 pieces of breadutensils:medium-size bowlmixing spoonfrying panstove (you’ll need help from your adult assistant)spatulaserving platemeasuring cups and spoons

Directions1. Crack the egg into a medium-size bowl and beat well. then mix in the milk and vanilla extract.2. Put the margarine in a frying pan. Heat the pan on the stovetop on me-dium heat. Cook the bread in the frying pan on low heat until the underside is light brown (about 5 minutes).5.
