ASIAN ART ASIAN ART COLLECTION OF COLLECTION OF ANDRE ET CHRISTIAN PARISANDRE ET CHRISTIAN PARIS

André Paris, born in 1929, is a French painter, sculptor, mosaic artist, and decorator. A student of Paris Beaux-Arts school, he went through the studio of Picasso but especially Derain, of whom he became the collaborator in charge of creating the theatre sets for which the latter was planning.

In the early 1950s, he joined the ORTF as a dec-orator; he became the construction-sets depart-ment director with two hundred employees. As such, he was invited by Jacques Chancel during a Grand Echiquier to talk about artistic creation

on television.

10

His son, Christian Paris, a long-haul pilot at Air France, vice- president of the SNPL, and a writer to whom his father transmitted the love for Asian arts, will continue the collection. He added piec-

es acquired, among others, from Jean Billaud, adventurer and servant of France in what ended up being Indochina. Christian Paris will also devote a book to him: “De Gaulle gave me wings”.

Today, this magnificent collection is intended to serve an even greater project, to help Father Pedro raise funds for

a new orphanage in Madagascar.

From left to rights: Christian Paris, Father Pedro, Madagascar family with kids.

11

Father Pedro Opeka is an Argentinian Lazarist Missionary who was a pupil of the one who would become Pope Francis (he

received the latter in 2019). Based in Antananarivo, the Founder of the humanitarian work Akamasoa in 1989, his association

supports nearly 25,000 people.

You can also donate to the congregation of Lazarists, specifying that your donation is intended for Father Pedro in Antananarivo.

It will forward it and send you a tax certificate because of its “public utility” status.

Walter Di Giusto is an Italian con-temporary artist born in Cassacco and, since 1960, has been based in Genoa. He began his artistic career by experiencing the hyperrealism of the early 70s and processing pho-tographic images. In the 1980s, he developed a landscape painting of interiority and memory, ani-mated by mythical and archaic re-enactments. Despite numerous technical experiments, the artist has remained faithful to the pic-torial expression. In addition, he has created sculptural works that are permanently presented in The Portofino Park Museum.

Deep and evocative painting on canvas by the Italian painter Michele Telari represent everyday life in a city. Telari’s works change depending on who is watching, thus bringing the viewer in-side a dynamic prospective. Color leakings are spread with a spatula to create a rainy veil used by the artist to confuse the viewer and animate the picture. The artistic evolution of Telari be-tween 2010 – 2015 is based on a maturating research on space and light perception. A detailed and precise trait evolves into a thicker line which finally turns into a stain on the naked canvas. A missing pictorial definition to leave room to a totally personal interpretation.

Warhol met Jagger in 1963 during the Rolling Stones’ first tour to the United States, before the band reached its height of international popularity. Their friendship and professional relationship became the foundation for several years of artistic collaboration. By the mid ’70s Jagger’s fame was at its peak, leading Warhol to pursue the rock star as the subject of his new series of screen prints. In the summer of 1975, whilst Jagger and his wife were renting Warhol’s home in Long Island, the artist took the opportunity to photograph Jagger.

These Pop Art prints feature an iconic portrait artworks origi-nally created by Warhol in 1975 titled “ Mick Jagger “.

For Andy Warhol, Marilyn Monroe was a symbol of Hollywood, where glamor and personal tragedy went hand in hand. War-hol was attracted to this mixture. After her death in 1962, War-hol created Gold Marilyn Monroe (Museum of Modern Art, New York). He chose a publicity photograph for the film Niagara (1953).

“This Is Not By Me” wrote the enigmatic and talented artist Andy Warhol in 1985 on the presented at the auction artwork “Marilyn”. He knew the value of art and, of course, his own art. It was Andy who, in the 1960s, put on stream the creation of contemporary artworks that did not fit into the framework of the traditional concept of painting.

Andy began his career by creating ordinary advertising posters. His work was so successful that the most prestigious companies in America started to overwhelm him with cooperation offers. However, the ambitious artist wanted to create something that would make the whole world talk about him. In the late 1950s, the pop art movement was just beginning to develop, and Andy dived into this new wave of art, the ideology of which was so close and understandable to a boy who grew up in poverty.

Pop art was designed for a mass audience, highlighting the idea of equality and excluding elitism. Warhol’s most popular works were inspired by com-monly available mass-produced products that anyone in the United States could afford, and therefore understand.

“You watch TV and you see Coca Cola, and you know that the President drinks Coca Cola, Liz Taylor drinks Coca Cola and just think - you can also drink Coca Cola,” - Warhol said. “Coke is Coke, and no amount of money will buy you a better Coke than the one that the bum on the corner drinks.”

The Velvet Underground & Nico pro-duced by Andy Warhol. Striking cover and debut vinyl album re-leased in March 1967 by the American rock band.

Early copies of the album invited the owner to “Peel slowly and see”, and peel-ing back the banana skin revealed a flesh-colored banana underneath. Most reissued vinyl editions of the album do not feature the peel-off sticker; original copies of the album with the peel-sticker feature are now rare collector’s items.
