OperationWARNING

To reduce the risk of fire or explosion, do not operate this vac in areas withflammable gases, vapors or explosive dust in the air. Flammable gases orvapors include but are not limited to; lighter fluid, solvent type cleaners, oil-base paints, gasoline, alcohol or aerosol sprays. Explosive dusts include butare not limited to; coal, magnesium, grain or gun powder. Do not vacuum explo-sive dust, flammable or combustible liquids or hot ashes. Do not use this vac asa sprayer. To reduce the risk of health hazards from vapors or dusts, do not vac-uum toxic materials.

CAUTION: To reduce risk of hearingdamage wear ear protectors whenusing the vac for extended hours orwhen using it in a noisy area. Theoperation of any utility vac can resultin foreign objects being blown intothe eyes, which can result in severeeye damage. Always wear safety gog-gles complying with ANSI Z87.1(shown on Package) before com-mencing operation. Safety Gogglesare available at Sears retail stores.

To reduce the risk of electric shock, thisappliance has a polarized plug (one bladeis wider than the other). This plug wilt fit ina polarized outlet only one way. If the plugdoes not fit fully in the outlet, reverse theplug. If it still does not fit, contact a quali-fied electrician to install the proper outlet.Do not change the plug in any way.

0 =oFF I=oNVacuuming Dry Materials1. The filter must always be in correct

position to avoid leaks and possibledamage to vac.

2. When using your vac to pick up veryfine dust, it wilt be necessary for you toempty the drum and clean the filter at

more frequent intervals to maintainpeak vac performance.

NOTE: A dry filter is necessary to pick updry material. If you use your vac to pick updust when the filter is wet, the filter willclog quickly and be very difficult to clean.

3. If your filter is wet but you need to usethe vac to pick up dry material, you canquickly dry the filter by running the vacwithout hose attached for about 10 min-

utes. The clean air rushing through thevac wilt help dry the filter.

Vacuuming Liquids1. When picking up small amounts of liq-

uid the filter may be left in place.

2. When picking up large amounts of liq-uid we recommend that the filter be

removed. If the filter is not removed, itwilt become saturated and misting mayappear in the exhaust.

3. After using the vac to pick up liquids, the filter must be dried to avoid possiblemildew and damage to the filter.

4. When the liquid in the drum reaches apredetermined level, the float mecha-nism wilt rise automatically to cut off air-flow. When this happens, turn off thevac, unplug the power cord, and emptythe drum. You wilt know that the floathas risen because vac airflow ceases

and the motor noise wilt become higherin pitch, due to increased motor speed.

IMPORTANT: To avoid damage to the vacdo not run motor with float in raised position.

Emptying the Drum

I ARNING: To avoid injury from acci- Idental starting, unplug power cordbefore emptying the drum.

1. The vac comes equipped with a drainfor easy emptying of liquids. Simplyunscrew the drain cap and lift the oppo-site side slightly to empty the drum.

2. Another option is to remove the powerassembly. Pull the flexible latches out-ward on each side of the lid to releasefrom the drum.

3. While holding the latches out, lift thepower assembly up and away from thedrum.

4. Lay power assembly upside down on aclean area while emptying drum.

5. Dump the drum contents into the properwaste disposal container.

WARNING: To avoid back injury orfalls, do not lift a vac heavy with liq-uid or debris. Scoop or drain enoughcontents out to make the vac lightenough to lift comfortably.

Cord Wrap/Carry Handle

The wet/dry vac has a convenient cordwrap area/carry handle designed on therear of the vac. Simply, wrap the powercord around the handle and snap the con-nector on the plug to a wrap of the cordand the cord is wrapped for storage.

Moving the Vac

1. Should it become necessary to pick thevac up to move it, DO NOT pick the vacup by the lid handles unless dust drumis empty. To avoid dropping the vac dueto latches releasing or possible partbreakage, pick the vac up by the lip ofthe dust drum.

Blowing Feature

Your vac features "Full Blowing". It canblow sawdust and other debris. Follow the

steps below to use your vac as a blower.

WARNING: Always wear safety gog- Igles complying with ANSI Z87.1 Ibefore using as a blower.

MaintenanceFilter

I ARNING: To avoid injury from acci-dental starting, unplug power cordbefore changing or cleaning filter.

NOTE: This filter is made of high qualitypaper designed to stop very small parti-cles of dust. The filter can be used for wet

or dry pick up. Handle the filter carefullywhen removing to clean or installing it.Creases in the filter pleats may occur frominstallation but creases will not affect the

performance of the filter.

Cleaning

Your filter should be cleaned often to

maintain peak vac performance.

Be sure to dry the filter before storing orpicking up dry debris.

IMPORTANT: After cleaning, check thefilter for tears or small holes. Do not use afilter with holes or tears in it. Even a smallhole can cause a lot of dust to come out of

your vac. Replace it immediately.

Removal

To remove the filter for cleaning orreplacement, unscrew the filter nut fromthe filter cage, remove filter plate and liftoff filter.

WARNING: Do not remove the filter

cage. It is there to help prevent yourfingers from getting into the blowerwheel.

I

IMPORTANT: To avoid damage to theblower wheel and motor, always reinstallthe filter before using the vac for dry mate-rial pickup.

Dry Filter

1. Some removal of dry debris can beaccomplished without removing the fit-ter from the vac. Slap your hand on topof the power assembly while the vac isturned off.

2. For best cleaning results due to accu-mulated dust, clean the filter in an openarea. Cleaning SHOULD be done out-doors and not in the living quarters.

3. After filter removal from vac, remove thedry debris by gently tapping the filteragainst the inside wall of your dustdrum. The debris will loosen and fall.

4. For thorough cleaning of dry filter withfine dust (no debris), run water throughit as described under "Wet Filter".

Wet Filter

After filter is removed, run water throughthe filter from a hose or spigot. Take carethat water pressure from the hose is notstrong enough to damage filter. Remem-ber: To dry a filter quickly, reinstall the fit-ter on the vac and allow the unit to run for

approximately 10 minutes. The clean airrushing through the filter will dry it.

Installation

Refer to page 5, "Filter Assembly".

Allow the filter to dry before storing the vac.
