Standardized Specifications of 220 kV Current Transformers
220 kV switchyards at HPGCL can be categorized as under:
1. 220 kV Switchyard at DCRTPP, Yamunanagar.
2. 220 kV Switchyard Unit 7 & 8 at PTPS, Panipat.
3. 220 kV Switchyard Unit 5 & 6 at PTPS, Panipat.
All these switchyards are having current transformers with different Current Ratio. As
such these CTs are not interchangeable among different switchyards.
However, in case of DCRTPP all the CTs become interchangeable if metering core of the
CTs is standardized at an accuracy class of 0.2.
Details of CTs installed in different Switchyards is attached herewith as under:
1. 220 kV Switchyard at DCRTPP, Yamunanagar. (Annexure-I)
2. 220 kV Switchyard Unit 7 & 8 at PTPS, Panipat. (Annexure-II)
3. 220 kV Switchyard Unit 5 & 6 at PTPS, Panipat. (Annexure-III)
Thus Specifications of these CTs other than particulars of secondary winding can be
brought to a common bench mark, which is given as under:

Following tests are to be carried out on 220 kV CTs:
1. Ratio Tests on all the cores for all the tapings.
2. Measuring of Excitation Current on all the cores for all the tapings.
3. Measuring the Secondary Resistance for all the cores for all the tapings.
4. I.S.F. Test on Metering Core.
5. Tan Delta & Capacitance test.
6. High Voltage Power Frequency Test on Primary winding at 460 kV for one minute.
7. High Voltage Power Frequency Test on Secondary winding at 5 kV for one minute.
8. Partial Discharge Test at 156 kV.
9. Polarity Test.

Routine Tests on Transformer 1 All routine test in accordance with IEC 60076 shall be carried out in all the transformers.

Temp. rise test at a tap corresponding to maximum losses & at minimum 110 % of rated
current of corresponding tap. DGA shall be conducted on oil sample taken before &
immediately after temp. rise test. Gas analysis shall be as per IS: 9434 (based on IEC:
60567), results will be interpreted as per IEC 61181. Infra red thermography shall be done
during temp rise test. Result shall be recorded for future reference.
