Adult Learning Literacy Classes
ESOL for Everyday Life
Historically we have run lots of ESOL classes at various levels. Take up depends on what
is on offer from adult learning programmers and whether they are funded or
chargeable.
Functional skills literacy has not historically recruited.
Informal Reading Programme
Historically ran but attendance was an issue. We don't have any current learners but
refer if appropriate

Readers' Groups
Chatterbooks: Reading group for children aged 8 to 12 years. Regular event - held every
second Monday of the month.
New Chapter: Reading group for adults with learning difficulties. Regular event, held

We work with a lot of secondary schools due to UW link. Some are out of area. Many led by
Community Liaison Librarian. Also host and contribute to widening participation activity often
led by UW: parliament day, flood prevention day, a level English day, micro science festival.
Recently started offering chargeable experience days for schools ourselves: “digifest” which
cover additional costs (facilitators, student ambassadors, learning materials)

Bounce & Rhyme: Twice weekly
Bounce and Rhyme: Sing song session for 0-1-year olds and toddlers. Regular event held
every Tuesday
Mini Baby Bounce and Rhyme: Sing song session for babies aged 0 – 3 months and their
parents/carers. Regular event held every Friday
Rat-a-tat tales (interactive story times). Regular event, one morning and one afternoon

Adult Learning Health & Wellbeing Courses
Family Health & Wellbeing – ESOL: 'Aimed at learners who do not speak English as a first
language but who would benefit from learning about; getting involved in community
events, activities for the family, how to look after your health and learning about British
traditions.'
Gentle Fitness Yoga and Relaxation, regular course held for six-week periods on
Thursdays, three times a year. 'Gentle Fitness Yoga & Relaxation incorporates traditional
yoga poses alongside building full body strength and increasing your flexibility. We
encourage all abilities and body types, to join our inclusive and non-judgmental classes
where no previous yoga experience is needed.'
'Understanding & Supporting Children with Dyslexia': Occasional course, a single session
held three times a year. 'The aim of this workshop is to provide learners with an
understanding of dyslexia and how it can affect people, learn some key techniques to
support children and young people who have dyslexia and learn how to motivate and
engage them.'
'Understanding and Supporting Children with ADHD': Occasional course, a single session
held three times a year. ' The aim of this workshop is to provide learners with an
understanding of ADHD and how it can affect both those with the diagnosis and those
living with them, learn key techniques to support children who have ADHD and learn
how to encourage and manage the behaviours of children with ADHD.'
'Understanding and Supporting Children with Autism': Occasional course, a single
session held three times a year. 'During this workshop learners will discover the causes
of Autism as far as these are currently understood and understand the process and
benefits of diagnosis. They will also become familiar with relevant legislation & codes of
practice whilst discussing some of the challenges and stigmas experienced by individuals
experiencing Autism and address any misconceptions. The nationally recognized SPELL
framework & some useful approaches to support individuals with Autism will be
explored.'

We host around 4 school college-based work experience students per year. We have a
target to work with either a young person in care or a care leaver. Recent possible
placements have not come to fruition. We usually work with at least one individual with
specific needs. Long term unemployed, NEET. On a programme of supper with HoW
college

Cultural and Creative Enrichment
Art Exhibitions
We hold a variety of exhibitions throughout the year. We always have at least two
ongoing exhibitions, on in the main atrium and another in our café. There is often a third
exhibition elsewhere, either a historical one on level two (where archives is based) or a
more general exhibition on level 0. All these exhibitions come from a range of sources:
private hire, the Uni, WAAS (archive and archaeology) or various funded projects (Arts
Council, HLF, Unlocking the Severn). We hosted 37 exhibitions in 2018

'Crafty Corner': Regular event, held weekly. 'Informal knitting, crochet and assorted
yarn-based craft group.'
'Family Art Workshops': Occasional event associated with funded arts projects, held
roughly once per season, (Beeline storytelling, AHRC, Meadow Arts, etc.).

'Hive Creative Writer's Group': Regular event, held every second Monday of the month.
'Worcester Spark Young Writer's Group' Regular event, held once monthly on a
Saturday. Young people's creative writing group led by poet Nina Lewis

We hold author and poet events on an occasional basis

Recently started producing Facebook live videos for "Bedtime Stories" – streaming

Space Night: A children's library event all about space. Community showcase regular
event, held once a year in October. Primarily organised by a community partner. This
year we hope to offer a chargeable school’s event in association
Science Night: A children's library event all about science. This year the theme was

Harry Potter Night: A children's library event which celebrates J K Rowling's famous
