St. Andrew the Apostle Roman Catholic Parish

DID YOU KNOW…..

that our Seminarian, Richard Rivera, has been assigned to serve at St. Patrick’s in Bisbee this summer? Seminarians are assigned to different parishes around the Diocese each summer, to learn about the Diocese and to experience different parish styles and ‘personalities’! (Yes, parishes, like all communities have unique histories and personalities – which is why ‘comparing’ one parish to another is always questionable.) Last year, because of the lockdown due to the pandemic, Richard and his classmates were all ‘assigned’ to their home parishes for the summer – an unusual situation, to say the least. Richard used his time last summer completing – via ZOOM meetings – a Clinical Pastoral Education course (hospital chaplaincy). This year, with the return to ‘normalcy’, our Seminarians are again serving in various parishes, as part of their on-going formation. What is different for Richard this year, is his Ordination to the (Transitional) Diaconate, here at St. Andrew’s, on the 26th of this month! As a Deacon, his parish experience will focus on learning to lead liturgies, celebrate the Sacraments of Baptism and Marriage, and, of course, preaching! He will have excellent ‘mentors’ in Deacon Tony Underwood and Father Amal Sebastiar, at St. Patrick’s! In addition, it has been arranged that Richard will lead Communion Services (and preach) at Sacred Heart in Tombstone this summer. He will lead those Communion Services on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 5:00 PM at Sacred Heart, and you are encouraged to participate in those liturgies and support him in his formation! Richard’s Ordination to the (Transitional) Diaconate will take place here at St. Andrew’s on Saturday, 26 June at 1:00 PM, and you are cordially invited to attend his Ordination! Please continue to affirm and encourage Richard – he gets no “grades” for his summer assignment, except your encouragement and thanks for his “YES!” to God! Thank you for your generosity in supporting the “Building Our Church Fund” – which permits us to make necessary repairs and up-grades on our two-campus Parish, as well as providing much needed funding to our mission partners around the world! Thanks to your generosity, we were able to send $10,000 to our Haiti Project (directed by Joan Martin) for teachers’ salaries and other much-needed supplies in three schools in Haiti!

Year of St. Joseph December 8, 2020—December 8, 2021

“By the strength of his own virtue, Joseph guarded the virtue of his wife. Joseph not only respected and revered his wife’s virginity; he also respected and revered his own virtue … a reverence rooted in the respect and

reverence with which Joseph held his own standing before the Lord, as both servant and protector.” Saint Joseph, you show us that the good life is a life lived for the Lord, accepting of the responsibilities entrusted to us and caring for those with eyes of love – with your eyes – so that we receive her anew each day as the precious gift who gives to us a Savior who reigns forever and ever. Model of Faith:Reflections on the Litany of Saint Joseph by Leonard J. DeLorenzo pg.35.

The Library has resumed normal staffed hours on Tuesday and Thursday

mornings, between 10 and noon.

We are not yet open on Sunday

mornings. As the pandemic recedes, we ask that patrons try to visit the library during the hours that volunteer staff is

present rather than requesting admittance at odd times from the

Parish Office staff.

We look forward to again welcoming you in person and helping you find material including many new items catalogued

over the last few months.

A note to those who have lost a

loved one:

Our thoughts and prayers always go out to those of our

Parish “family” that are coping with the loss of a loved one.

Making funeral and burial arrangements

can be an overwhelming process and can put a financial burden on a family. St. Andrew’s

charges NO fees for funerals, music or reception. Families often make donations at this time, a gift freely given; however, please be assured that this is not a requirement, nor a “fee.” Any donation for the reception meal goes right back into a fund in order for us to

provide receptions at no cost to other families. For those who do choose

to donate, your gift is most appreciated. We hope this clears up any

misunderstandings that may have occurred at the time of arrangements.

Cursillo Ultreya – This time it’s different!

St. Andrew’s is hosting its first in-person Ultreya with a Zoom option at noon on 26 June in Rooms 6 & 7 in Madonna Hall. Welcome back.

Let’s get this party started! Potluck!!!

CATHOLIC QUIZ — This week’s Question: “What is ‘Peter’s Pence’?”

The answer to last week’s Question: “What are the Twelve Promises of our Lord to Saint Margaret Mary?” Part of the apparitions to St. Margaret Mary, these promises to those devoted to the Sacred Heart were implicitly approved in 1920: 1) I will give them all the graces necessary in their state of life. 2) I will establish peace in their houses. 3) I will comfort them in all their afflictions. 4) I will be their strength during life and above all, during death. 5) I will bestow a blessing on all their undertakings. 6) Sinners shall find in My Heart the Source and infinite ocean of mercy. 7) Tepid souls shall grow fervent. 8) Fervent souls shall quickly grow to perfection. 9) I will bless every place where a picture of My Heart shall be set up and honored. 10) I will give to priests the gift of touching the most hardened hearts. 11) Those who shall promote this devotion shall have their names written in My Heart, never to be blotted out. 12) I promise you in the excessive mercy of My Heart that My all powerful love will grant to all those who receive Communion on the first Friday of nine consecutive months the grace of final penance; they shall not die in My disgrace nor without receiving the Sacraments; my Divine Heart shall be their safe refuge in their last moment.

(If you would like to be as smart as the “Quiz Master” – pick up a copy of the Catholic Source Book, available in the Parish Office, for only $20!)

SOUL FOOD — “There is perhaps no surer road to peace than one that starts from little islands and oases of genuine kindness – islands and oases constantly growing in number, and being continually joined together until, eventually, they ring the world.” - Fr. Dominque Pire, O.P. (1910-1969) Recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize – 1958)

As of July 1, 2021 the general dispensation from the Sunday Mass obligation for the general

public will cease. However, the dispensation from the Sunday Mass obligation remains in place

for those at serious medical risk. Serious medical risk refers primarily to those with a chronic

health condition, those providing direct care for the vulnerably ill, or those with a

compromised immune system or other health condition that leaves them unable to be

vaccinated.

Most Reverend Edward J. Weisenburger

Bishop of Tucson

“On Saturday, June 19, we will be praying for our country in front of Chilis at 11:30 am. We will pray a Rosary, a Divine Mercy Chaplet and a Sacred heart Novena.

Everyone who attends will receive a special Novena called, “The Surrender Novena” which was given to a Priest who was the spiritual director to Padre Pio by Jesus.

FAITH FORMATION 2021-2022

It is time to prepare for Faith Formation classes which will begin in September 2021. Please remember that forming your children in their faith is a promise all parents make at the time of the children’s Baptism. Registration forms are available in the entry to Church, in the Parish Office, and on the Saint Andrew’s website. Registration forms are for all levels from age 3 years through Confirmation. Calendars are also available but always open to adjustment. With trust in God we are planning a full return to classes. New Catechists and aides are needed to make our year successful. Sharing your faith with children brings great rewards. Please contact Sr. Joellen with your interest, all levels appreciated.

“Where two or three are gathered together in My name, there am I in the midst of them.” Matthew 18:20 Join us every Tuesday, at 3:00 pm, in St. Andrew the Apostle Church, to pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet, The Seven Sorrows Rosary, the Golden Arrow and the Memorare of St. Joseph Prayer. All prayer cards are provided including a Seven Sorrows Rosary. “Private prayer is like straw scattered here and there: If you set it on fire, it makes a lot of little flames. But gather these straws into a bundle and light them, and you get a mighty fire, rising like a column into the sky; public prayer is like that.”

--Saint John Vianney
