The screening workshop ICON’s proven workshop process uses a highly experienced group of engineers to quickly understand the project drivers, brainstorm and screen the options and identify the path forward. The conceptual design After the workshop, the concept or concepts to be carried forward are documented in a form that can become the Basis of Design for front end engineering or for detailed design. Only critical issues that would result in the selection of a different concept are engineered. The project cost estimate, schedule and execution strategy are documented such that corporate and regulatory submissions can be made.

The execution phase ICON can undertake the entire engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning or any components of this scope. When our proven solutions are adopted, you can be sure that the project objectives will be met.

RIG INSTALLABLE PLATFORMS ICON has more experience with rig installed structures than any other company in the world. The benefits of rig installed platforms are: acceleration of project schedule lower project risk from foundations lower overall cost greater flexibility in choosing construction

spread removes schedule link between

construction and drilling

The choice of configuration depends on the water depth, metocean conditions, geotechnical conditions, topsides and well requirements, jackup rig capability, loadout and transportation method and special installation factors. ICON can select the correct solution for the particular application.

TALL TEMPLATE STRUCTURE (TTS) The Tall Template Structure (TTS) is a great solution when additional well slots are required on an existing platform. The TTS can be installed in close proximity to the existing platform and can use drilled or driven foundations. The piles also function as well surface conductors The TTS can be transported by rig supply boat and installed using the normal rig equipment required for well construction. In many ways it is just a taller seabed template and can be sourced and installed as part of the drilling programme.

Transport by supply boat The TTS will work in water depths up to 60 metres.

TTS used as an annexe platform (BKA Annexe) The deck of the TTS can be installed as a single lift or installed in pieces, It can be clamped, welded or grouted to the supporting conductors.

MONOPODS ICON has significant experience with the design and installation of monopods in water depths up to 20 metres. Monopods are an excellent low cost solution when only 1 to 4 wells are required. They can accommodate up to 6 wells.

TRIPOD AND 4 LEG STRUCTURES ICON has experience with a range of structures for varying water depths.

Large topsides up to 500t can be lifted by rigs

DEEP WATER SOLUTIONS Jackup rig installed structures can be used in water depths to 100 metres. Larger water depths are accommodated by using either 2 part structures or using the floating upend method. The jacket can be launched or floated off a submersible transport vessel. Jacket concept suitable for water depths between 60 and 100 metres. Braced monopod in up to 70m water depth. The main column is installed in 2 parts when the water depth exceeds 55 metres.

SELF-INSTALLING PLATFORMS Self-installing platforms allow installation without the need for a large crane barge or drilling rig. This is advantageous from a cost perspective as derrick barges are expensive to mobilize and operate. Key features are: adaptable foundations that can incorporate

suction piles, drilled and grouted piles, driven piles, spread footings or ground anchors.

relocatable. Ideally suited to small, prolific

fields requiring basic processing capabilities

installation timing can be independent of

availability of rigs or derrick barges

FLOATOVER TOPSIDES INSTALLATION ICON Engineering has pioneered the development of topsides floatover installation techniques for small platforms. For these platforms, the jacket cannot resist the barge mooring forces and because of the small size of the barge, the large vessel motions present challenges. The selected solution to the problem is the cantilevered truss method combined with an hydraulic lowering system. ICON developed the system for Murphy Petroleum in Malaysia and successfully completed the installation of two topsides for the West Patricia field. The weights were 600 tonnes and 685 tonnes. Topsides loaded out on to trusses and skidded on to barge

After arrival on site, the topsides is skidded out to the end of the truss from the transportation position The operations were completed within 8 hours of arriving on site Topsides installed

ANNEXE PLATFORMS When more platform space is needed to support additional wells or more process equipment, an annexe platform is often the best solution. Lower capital cost An annexe platform supports only the additional facilities required. It shares the support infrastructure of the host platform. This support infrastructure such as utilities, safety systems, personnel facilities etc comprises a significant proportion of the cost of a stand alone platform. Lower operating cost much lower operating cost than a stand alone

extension. Minimise modifications minimize the modifications to the existing

platform. less production disruption lower hazard exposure during the construction

phase work can be completed more quickly. TYPES OF ANNEXE PLATFORM Large bridge-linked platform This option is ideal for: annexe platforms with significant process

equipment, e.g., compression, dehydration or water injection platforms.

platforms that require regular operator presence but which do not have facilities for personnel

Structure options include conventional derrick barge installed platforms, floatover installed topsides and self installing platforms.

Drilled and grouted monopod This option is most suitable where: the seabed is hard when additional well slots are required and a

jackup rig is available A monopod braced back to the existing structure can work in water depths up to and beyond 60 metres. A freestanding monopod that is not braced at the top can generally be used in water depths up to 20 metres.

Cowle monopod showing deck extension prior to installing external support monopod. When only additional wells are to be supported, a lightweight deck can be constructed in advance or the deck extension can be installed by the rig after the monopod installation. The efficiency of this design comes from using the jack up drilling rig to install the structure, drill the foundation piles and then drill the wells. Suction Piled Monopod The suction piled monopod is an excellent solution where the foundations are relatively soft when a jackup rig is not available to install the

structure or foundation piles.

To install, it can be floated into position and upended by flooding with assistance from a small crane or winch. The equipment required to install the suction pile is very simple and low cost for this configuration. Other Solutions for Annexe Platforms

In addition to the specific solutions here, all of the rig installed structures make ideal annexe structures. They can be braced back to the original platform or be linked with a compliant bridge.
