My Best WishesWe are aware that communication and connections are vital, and we have very much enjoyed‘seeing’ everyone during our regular Zoom meetings. At the moment, we are living in a verydifferent world and we don’t yet know what the future holds with regards to the gathering oflarge groups.

We want to ensure that UFO continues to evolve and provide you with a strong networkingplatform so that you are in the best position possible when the outbreak dissipates. Indeed,belonging to organisations like UFO could be essential to the survival of many independent

forwarders over the coming years.

We are aware of the importance of the 1-2-1 meetings during ourannual gatherings, where Members are able to discuss existing

and potential new business. Therefore, we have invested in abespoke Virtual 1-2-1 Booking System and are encouraging

our Members to take part in our Virtual 1-2-1 MeetingWeek, which will take place from 27-31 July 2020.

The booking system officially launches on 1 July and allthose who have registered will receive their personal log-in via email. A key feature is being able to make notesagainst each meeting as well as one-to-one messagingso that you can engage with each other before, during

and after the Virtual 1-2-1 Meeting Week. Please note thatparticipation in the Virtual 1-2-1 Meeting Week and accessto the booking system is provided free of charge.

The UFO Head Office has kept in regular touch with ourMembers since the pandemic started and we have beenhugely impressed with the resilience of the companies thatmake up our fantastic network and how you are all coping

incredibly well under the new pressures. The supportyou have given each other is tremendous and I have nodoubt that the UFO family will emerge more resilientthan ever before.

Cancellation ofBeijing Meetingwith new datesand location for2021 announcedDue to the unprecedented escalation and now globalpandemic caused by Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), wehave taken the decision to cancel our meeting due to beheld at the InterContinental Beijing Sanlitun in November.

We will be holding our next gathering from 23-25 May 2021in Croatia.The venue is the Hotel Croatia Cavtat, a leading five-star resortand conference centre enjoying spectacular views of the opensea and just 5km from Dubrovnik airport.Full details of the event can be found on our web site.To date, we have 94 CEOs and Senior Managers from 75countries due to attend and we will automatically move thesebookings over to our event in Croatia. We will contact eachdelegate directly with instructions on how to book your guestroom at Hotel Croatia Cavtat.We can also now accept new registrations for the event, pleasebook your place on the web site.Although the change of dates and location may cause someinconvenience, this is a Force Majeure situation and we want toprovide Members with a clear and safe way forward in what is achallenging time.As always, the health and safety of our Members is ofupmost importance and we hope that we have your supportand understanding.If you have any questions, please email us.

Plaza Forwarding inSpain Handles Importof Sanitary Equipment

Our member in Spain, Plaza Forwarding has handled theairfreight of sanitary equipment from Chile.

The cargo arrived at Madrid Airport where the Emergency MilitaryForce took over the shipment at this crucial time.Plaza Forwarding were established in 1997 and have been UFOmembers since 2010 covering all the major airports and ports of Spain.

Spanish member, Plaza Forwarding has recently handled twoair charters filled with medical aid for the battle againstCOVID-19.

The two charter flights arrived at Madrid Airport in Spain fromShenzhen Airport in China with specially adapted A340passenger aircraft used to bring the 40tns of medical material toMadrid Airport. The chartering was fully handled by PlazaForwarding, in cooperation with Iberia, on an airport-to-airportbasis. At the reception at Madrid Airport, the cargo wasimmediately distributed to the final destination.Emilio Plaza (CEO) says: "As the pandemic continues todevastate many important sectors around the world, PlazaForwarding continues to give added value to the logistic chain.We cannot relax as there is still a huge lack of this vital aidmaterial and we must endure. Many public organizations andprivate industries are still in need of these products to helpprevent the spread of COVID-19. In order to restart economic

activity during the actual and forthcoming pandemic phases, westill need much more medical equipment to cover actual andfuture population needs in the struggle against the virus."

day of execution. Allformalities were completedon the same day and thecargo was ready for loadingonto the vessel. Amidst thethreat of COVID-19,everything ran smoothlyas a result of ourperfect planning."

• The clearance and deliveryof a helicopter: "These kindof shipments are a specificchallenge. The helicoptercame by air and weprofessionally handled it byloading on a low-bed trailerand offloading at the site inthe same way."

Upon completion, an e-Certificate (see example) issent via email which can be downloaded, shared and printedimmediately so that the user can verify their training to clients andofficials quickly and easily."

On 11 March 2020, the World Health Organisation declaredthe new coronavirus outbreak as a pandemic. Since then, thevirus, officially named COVID-19, has spread rapidly aroundthe world reaching more than 180 countries.

The pandemic has sent billions of people into lockdown and isaffecting everyone both professionally and personally. As a globalfamily, Universal Freight Organisation wanted to obtain feedback fromour Members. The results are now collated in an Official Report inorder to have a permanent record to reflect upon of this historic event.

2012:Luke’s BeachWheelchairOver $1200 Raised viaDreams Come True.UFO raised fundstowards the cost of adream for a 9 year oldboy called Luke, whohas Spina Bifida andHydrocephalus.

2014:The Dream TrustFrom 2012-2014, weraised over $7800 forThe Dream Trust in India.The main object of theTrust is to help poorchildren with Type1 Diabetes as mostIndians are notmedically insured.

2016:TanzaniaDiabetesAssociationHeadquartered atMuhimbili NationalHospital, Dar es Salaamand supports 30 Type1 Diabetes clinicsthroughout the country.$3000 raised.

2010:SalaTessa SchoolSponsored Zorb raised$4300 for the Sala TessaSchool in Cambodia,so that the school wereable to buy new tablesand chairs and provideeach of the children witha school uniform.

2015:NepalEarthquake ReliefUFO Head Officecollected clothes,blankets, torches,toiletries, sleeping bags,sanitisers and toys fromthe local community,and sent them towhere needed.

2008:St Euphrasia’sGirls HomeUFO Membersgenerously raisedover $2500, by araffle held at our200 GeneralMeetingin Cancun forSt Euphrasia’s GirlsHome in Sri Lanka.

2016:The Dream TrustUFO President/C.E.O.,Rachel Crawford,together with her twofriends, Jane and Taniaraised over £4000 byabseiling 100m down theSpinnaker Tower inPortsmouth, UK forThe Dream Trust.

2009:Kings WayEducationUS $3,320 wasgenerously raisedbya raffle,at our2009 Meeting, inCambodia, whichpaid for school fees,for two students, fortwo years.

2015:DoctorsWithoutBorders (MSF)At our 2015 NetworkMeeting, we raisedUS $2360 (£1585)towards Doctorswithout Borders work,in response to theEbola outbreak.

2007:LagosGeneral HospitalOver $1500 raised, froma SponsoredWalk, fora Bore Hole. Withhelp from the lateOluwole Adeyemi(Broadline) who raisedfunds for local causes,inc. the Hospital.

SENTEBALE’SWEBSITE SAYS:“We help the most vulnerablechildren in Lesotho andBotswana get the supportthey need to lead healthyand productive lives.Sentebale works with localgrassroots organisations tohelp these children – thevictims of extreme povertyand the HIV/AIDS epidemic.Together, we’re making a bigdifference to these children’slives. We can do even morewith your help.”

Botswana event raised funds forSentebale, in support of youngpeople affected by HIV

As UFO’s 18th Network Meeting took place from 28-30 April 2019 at The Grand Palm Resort inBotswana, we chose to support Sentebale, a charity founded in 2006 by Prince Harry and PrinceSeeiso, to support children and young people affected by HIV in southern Africa.

Sentebale’s flagship programme takes the form ofmonthly Saturday clubs and residential weeklongcamps, which help children to accept their HIVstatus amongst peers in safe environment,addressing their mental health and wellbeing,improving their adherence to medication andallowing them to lead healthy, happy lives.In 2017, Sentebale launched its Let Youth Lead

advocacy programme, aimed at encouraging allyouth in sub-Saharan Africa to know and managetheir HIV status by 2020.

The charity also provides vulnerable childrenthroughout Lesotho with bursaries to enable themto achieve their secondary education, and grantsto community-led organisations caring for theneeds of orphans and vulnerable children.

2 Guest Speakers atour 4th ZoomMeetingWe have held Zoom meetings since the beginning of April,initially so we could see other people apart from our families!Discussions then progressed to updates on each country'ssituation, cargo being stranded, transit disruption, controlsand restrictions, extending credit and cash flow.

Despite the challenges, it is always great to hear thatUFO Members are operating and coping incredibly wellunder the new pressures.

During our 4th Zoom meeting, we were joinedby two Guest Speakers:

• Julian Kurz of CMA-CGM discussed BBK on containervessels and how they have observed the COVID-19 situationand challenges.

• Keith Plummer and Martin Lee of CargoWise updatedMembers on their experience over the last few monthsand how technology has played a role.

We appreciate thatwith so manydifferent timezones, we wereunable to allocatea time for ourmeeting thatsuited everyone.Therefore, werecorded themeeting so thatyou can listen to the discussions and hear from CMA-CGM andCargoWise. It is available to download in our Head Office Noticesin the Members Area.

As you may know, we have developed our own inhouse Virtual1-2-1 Booking System and are encouraging Members to take partin our Virtual 1-2-1 Meeting Week, which will take place from27-31 July 2020. To participate, you need a computer or laptopwith webcam and microphone function, a reliable internetconnection and a Skype account.

Using our new Virtual 1-2-1 Booking System, you will be able tobook 30-minute meetings with fellow Members that youparticularly want to talk with. Registration is now open (book yourplace) and the booking system will officially open on 1 July 2020.

We have prepared a 3rd COVID-19 Special eZine for you called ManagingFlexible Work Arrangements.

The COVID-19 pandemic has seen businesses implement flexible workingpractices including remote operations at a record rate in order to protect theworkforce and provide business continuity. Although everyone is anxious forthe pandemic to be over, there is much uncertainty and new guidelines andprotocols will continue for some time to come. This leaves us with adjusting toa new way of life - will some staff continue working from home; will there bestaggered shifts at the office, etc.

We hope this new eZine will provide some useful information and links forplanning your ongoing strategies.

We have arranged a fantastic start to ourevent! We will meet at 14:00 on Sunday23 May for a relaxing boat trip across thebay to Dubrovnik Old Town, one of theworld’s finest and most perfectly preservedmedieval cities in the world. We will be takenin groups of 25 by English speaking guidesaround the marble-paved squares and cobbledstreets, all of which have also remainedunchanged for centuries. We will then enjoydinner together at the stunning Palm Terraceat Excelsior Hotel before returning to thehotel by coach at approximately 20:00.

Our official meeting will start on Monday 24May in the Congress Hall Ragusa and delegateswill gain access to our exclusive Event Web Appso that 20-minute business meetings can bearranged prior to arrival. After a productive dayof 1-2-1 meetings, there will be time to restbefore we meet at 19:30 for a dinner feast withan open bar at Restaurant Alverede. We havethen arranged for us to relax with the exclusiveuse of the Posejdon Night Club. We havearranged an open bar and private DJ to help usdance off some of the calories.

Our official meeting will continue on Tuesday 25May with more 1-2-1 meetings where delegateshighlight their specialist areas, discuss crosstrade, existing and new business as well asinformation regarding their country’s regulationsand requirements. These crucial meetings alsoprovide an opportunity to share keyimport and export trade information.
