Executive Summary

This paper has attempted to highlight on the experience gathered during the period of internship

at Dhaka Bank Limited (DBL). Dhaka Bank Limited is one of the leading financial institutions in

the country. As an intern from business discipline, I got the opportunity to work with this

organization and try to put my effort to make a depth study.

The first part of the report discusses the organizational overview which included the brief

overview of the institution along with its management. I have given my best effort to include all

the necessary points in order to give a clear understanding about Dhaka Bank Limited. This

section is very informational because for any internee it is essential to recognize the organization

before being a part of it.

In the second part of the report I included al my experience during internship resembling my jobs

and responsibilities, learning from the internship. Here I have emphasized mostly about my daily

responsibilities and how much I was able to contribute to the organization. Afterwards I have

provided a short description about the difficulties that I have faced throughout the internship

journey and my methods of overcoming them.

The last part was very significant because here I got the opportunity to share my feelings from

the internship. I had a lot of expectation from where some were achieved and some were not. It is

undoubtedly true that this internship has impacted a great influence in my career plan. It got me

engaged in a lot of thought regarding where I had the scope to go ahead and thus this part deals

with that. Later on, I have drawn attention towards the findings and recommendations by stating

what my corrections could have been if I could get an opportunity to redo the internship

program.

1. Introduction

Internship is one of the crucial parts for a student of undergraduate business program. It is the

time when a student gets the opportunity to engage with the actual work environment and its

methods, after a four year long training session under the university. It is more useful for the

students from the business background because in our profession, we need practical exposures to

modes and operation of different organizations.

As Finance and Accounting major student, I always want to start my professional career from an

organization which has the top priority in Finance and Accounting. Banking sector is the sector

where finance and accounting are largely practiced and this system plays a very important role in

the economic life of a nation. Hence in a developing country like Bangladesh the banking system

as a whole plays a very important role in the economic development is no exception. Banks are

custodian to the assets of the general masses. It influences and facilities many different but

integrated economic activities like resources mobilization, poverty alleviation, production and

distribution of public finance. Because of largely practiced of Finance and Accounting and for

being acknowledged about such vast growing sector was one of my desires. Following such

desire I conducted my internship under Dhaka Bank Limited.

From my internship experience I have learned different types of new skills like communication

skills, Technical Skills, Organizational Skills, and Analytical Skills. Along with that I also have

learned to make myself capable to work under pressure and most importantly the practical

knowledge of handling workload under stress. While working as an intern at Dhaka Bank

Limited, I have the privilege to watch and learn from its overall activities of credit operation

division and their employees. As an intern in Dhaka Bank Limited at Corporate office, it was a

great opportunity to get a closer look to the activities and performance of some selective division

of credit operation department of Dhaka Bank Limited to fulfill the requirement of the

Internship.

2. Organizational Overview

Bangladesh economy has been experiencing a rapid growth since the '90s. Industrial and

agricultural development, international trade, inflow of expatriate Bangladeshi workers'

remittance, local and foreign investments in construction, communication, power, food

processing and service enterprises ushered in an era of economic activities. Urbanization and

lifestyle changes concurrent with the economic development created a demand for banking

products and services to support the new initiatives as well as to canalize consumer investments

in a profitable manner. A group of highly acclaimed businessmen of the country grouped

together to responded to this need and established Dhaka Bank Limited in the year 1995. As the

pioneer of private banking system in Bangladesh, Dhaka Bank Limited converts its glorious past

into a productive present, which has given the base for creation of an outstanding future. Since

its establishment back in 1995, DBL provided its strength and commitment in financial sectors

which gains public trust in terms of quality service to the customers and value addition to the

shareholders. And that positioned it in the top slot of financial sectors in all respect.

The Bank was incorporated as a public limited company under the Companies Act. 1994. The

Bank started its commercial operation on July 05, 1995 with an authorized capital of Tk. 1,000

million and paid up capital of Tk. 100 million. The Bank has stood out for its financial strength

and operational craftsmanship marking its position as the potential market leader in all core areas

of banking in the country. It got listed in DSE and CSE in 2000. Headquartered at Motijheel,

Dhaka, DBL has got hold of a countrywide reach through a larger network of Branches, ATMs,

SME channels, agricultural outreach and mobile banking. The Bank is now expanding far and

wide to higher market share and big surge in assets. A great total of 450,400+ customers’

accounts now they serve and seek to make them better-off as best it can.

The Organization achieved customer’s confidence immediately after establishment in domestic

and international market. The organization philosophy “Excellence in Banking” has been

preciously the essence of the legend of bank’s success and met up capital within a period of 20

years of its operation achieved a remarkable success as well as met up capital adequacy

requirement of Bangladesh Bank. Dhaka bank has 83 branches, 3 SME services centers, 6 CMS

units, 2 offshore banking unit across the country and a wide network of corresponds all over the

world. Bank offer the full range of banking and investment services for personal moreover

corporate customers, backed by the state of the art technology with highly motivated

professionals.

Since its journey as Commercial Bank in 1995 Dhaka Bank Limited (DBL) has been laying great

emphasis on the use of improved Technology. To keep pace with time and in harmony with

national and international economic activities and for rendering all modern services, DBL, as a

financial institution automated all its branches with computer network in accordance with the

competitive commercial demand of time. It has gone to Online Operation System since 2003.

And the new Banking Software FLEXCUBE is newly installed. As a result the Bank will able to

give the services of international standards.

3. Overview of Credit Information Bureau (CIB)

Credit Information Bureau (CIB) is a credit record of an individual, which contains the

repayment history of liability. The CIB is generated from central bank of a country. Credit

Information Bureau (CIB) is an agency that collects credit data on borrowers from its member

financial institutions. The financial data is then aggregated in system and the resulting

information (in the form of credit reports) is made available on request to contributing member

financial institutions for the purposes of credit assessment, credit scoring and credit risk

management. The major purpose of this database is to enable the financial institutions to know

the credit history of their prospective customers thus enabling them to make a more prudent

decision. Credit information is an essential component of a financial system. Issuing any loan

without CIB report increases the risk of loan default. It provides the factual position of the

borrowers' credit exposure both negative as well as positive as of a certain date. Credit reports

3.1. Role of CIB in Financial system

The CIB plays an important role in promoting financial discipline, better credit risk management

and making prudent lending decisions. It is globally recognized that a well developed financial

sector must have effective credit risk detection and management system to allocate credit

efficiently. The CIB helps financial institutions in managing credit risk and assessing true credit

worthiness of existing as well as prospective borrowers.

The goal of Credit Information Bureau is to ease problems arising between borrowers and

lenders. Formal information exchanges help lenders to identify good borrowers, thus reducing

the incidence of adverse selection. The practical consequence is better risk management, which

enables banks to avoid risky large loans and increase their lending volume to small and medium-

sized enterprises (SME) thus contributing to economic growth, employment generation and

poverty alleviation.

3.2. CIB of Bangladesh Bank

The Credit Information Bureau (CIB) was established by Bangladesh Bank (BB) in 1992. The

scope and activities of CIB are governed under the provisions of Banking Companies Ordinance

(BCO), 1962. The Section 25 (A) vests powers with BB to call for credit information in such

manner as it may deem necessary and make such information available to any banking company.

The CIB has been in operation for several years. The need for such an organization had been

discussed for several years and the Government included this in the Financial Sector Reform

Project. The central bank established a separate unit headed by a General Manager tasked to

develop the CIB and the whole system of CIB is now automated.

3.3. CIB of Dhaka Bank

CIB is a small part of CPC credit operation division but its depth in consideration of its

importance is too much. The Head of credit operation is monitored the CIB and Razee-Ul-

Ameen, the AVP of Dhaka bank supervise this unit. Along with them, there are four members

who are working in this unit. As the CIB report is too much confidential, no one is allow to enter

this unit without permission. As CIB report has substantial impact on decision making regarding

sanctioning, making renewed, rescheduling and adjustment of a credit facility, everyone is

conscious is conscious to generate CIB report. Basically, the each branch of Dhaka Bank send

request to CIB unit for generate report for their clients who are seeking loans and the CIB unit

verify all the required documents, then generate report and send the report to the branch through

mail.

4. Responsibilities and Contribution to the Organization

I was very lucky for doing internship in Dhaka Bank Limited because in my internship my

supervisor assigned me the tasks what exactly the executives do in Dhaka Bank except the

critical parts like panning, research etc. During the period of internship at Dhaka Bank, the

interne was cooperatively guided by all the staffs for gaining in-depth banking knowledge. The

learning environment of Dhaka Bank was pleasant and outstanding. After joining, my supervisor

told me to assist CIB unit and let me observe how the jobs are done. Later on he told me to start

work and usually that work is done by a junior officer done. It was totally challenging and at a

time interesting for me.

Check the hard copy of CIB inquiry form:

The branches send the request of CIB report to the borrower and they send required document to

generate CIB report and this CIB report is confidential. So, it’s no way to generate report if any

document is missing and there is high chance to generate wrong report if required document is

mismatched. For this reason, I check the CIB inquiry form before the CIB report is generated.

Communicating with branches:

There are few statements required in CIB and those are prepared by the branch according to the

guideline of Bangladesh Bank. There is specific deadline for each of the statement and most of

the time the branches are not aware about the deadline. For this, I call to the every branches ,

exchange few words and reminder them about the deadline.

Generate CIB report:

CIB report is the credit history of a borrower who is seeking loan from bank. The number of CIB

is increasing at a dramatic rate because of imposing CIB report on SOD. For this, sometimes I

have to generate CIB report.

Sending CIB report to branch:

CIB report is basically generated for the request of the branch. After all the information matched,

CIB cell generate the report from Bangladesh Bank website. After generating CIB report, I send

the report to the branch through webmail.

Feedback the Query

Branches have different types of query regarding their CIB inquiry over the phone. I have to

handle all those phone call and feed back their query. Even I have to handle few calls except CIB

inquiry and its basically all about different type of statement.

Countdown the report:

The Bangladesh bank is charged a fee for downloading CIB report. And this charge is imposed

on branch. We are not only generating report of borrower but also generate CIB report of

guarantor and other required person or company. For this, I count down the report for imposing

charge to branch without any hassle. The Dhaka Bank has a specific format to count down the

report and it’s called LOGFILE.

Filing the CIB report

Dhaka Bank has a rule to preserve the hard copy of CIB report of last three month. For this, I

preserve the hard copy of last 3 month. First I have to input data on hard log that means input

branch name and client name and then filing it based on date.

5. Lessons Learnt from Internship Experience

During the period of internship at Dhaka Bank Limited, the interne was cooperatively guided by

all the staffs for gaining in-depth banking knowledge. The learning environment of Dhaka Bank

was pleasant and outstanding. Therefore, the major lessons that are learned during internship are

below.

Communication Skills

Communication with the branch was very vital part in Dhaka Bank because all statements in CIB

are largely depends on the communication with branches and internal employees. Through my

internship, I mostly communicated with the all the branch for various purpose. This helped me to

build my communication skills sharper and stronger.

Technical Skills

From this internship experience, I learned how to use Microsoft outlook where I managed

corporate emails when communicating with the branch or internal employees. I learned some of

the works of Microsoft excel and PowerPoint that was new for me.

Different Organizational Skills

I have learned so many organizational skills from this experience of internship. I have learned

planning for job everyday by making job lists, multitasking; by handling different job in the

same day, time management; by managing the jobs within given time.

Ability to Work under Pressure

In a bank the word “work pressure” is very common and for that not someday, I could say almost

every day I felt pressure in my work. In Dhaka Bank each employee of CIB has to deal with

generating 30-35 CIB inquiry along with 4-5 big company in a day and fulfilling their demand

within given time is very important. As a result, there is always pressure of work in here. I rather

enjoyed being in pressure because the work I have done through my internship was very

interesting to me and every day I learned new things by doing different types of works.

Professional Skill

Bank is a place where Professionalism is highly appreciated and Bankers are highly professional

by nature. Because, banking job demand high professional people. High professional people

have some sort of characteristics like honesty, discipline, punctuality which I have tried to foster

myself for my own betterment and working environment of Dhaka Bank helps a lot to practice

this skill.

6. Dealing with Difficulties

As an intern like others in a new environment I have faced some difficulties too. In Dhaka Bank,

external employee, like interns are not allowed to get server access. So, I can’t generate the CIB

report. But later on I got access the server when I build trust to do it. Sometimes the server is too

slow that it took too much time to generate a report. As an intern I had to handle too many works

within short time. For this it’s very difficult for me to manage time in proper way. Sometimes I was

confused in many issues. At first when I confused and face some sort of difficulties I tried to solve

it by myself by utilizing my basic sense. Later on while doing important tasks and I totally didn’t

understand something then I asked my supervisor for help and he was happily showed me the

perfect way to solve that problem. Furthermore, without making good corporate relation with co-

workers every person will face difficulties in the corporate world and that’s why I always tried to

make good corporate relationship with my supervisor and other co-workers. We used to have lunch

together, celebrated birthdays etc. From that interaction, in the absence of my supervisor I always

got help from others in the office whenever I got confused with the task.

7. Difference between Expectation and Experienced

I must admit that the work experience in Dhaka Bank Limited exceeded my expectation. Before

joining in Dhaka Bank Limited my perception was that they will give me tons of works and I can

never be able to make a good relation with employees due to their extreme professionalism.

However my perception in this phase was proven wrong. Before joining I did not expect a huge

job responsibility as an intern, but after joining I found out that I was not treating like an external

employee at all. In fact, my supervisor along with other co-workers share internal information and

make me involve attending meetings and decision making state of affairs to exploit as an employee

of Dhaka Bank. My contributions were appreciated and that motivated me a lot.

Through the passing days I gained their trust fully and they started to assign very valuable task to

me which not only made me happy as I was getting an opportunity to be a part of the team and

creating difference but also they were thinking of hiring me considering my excellence and

professionalism even they offer me to extend intern. During my last days on internship the work I

used to conduct was very valuable to Dhaka Bank Limited. They entirely treated me as a member of

the team and at no point did they expect me to do any odd jobs.

Moreover, though my expectation from the organization to receive the respect of an intern was

not given at the first place but I didn’t lose hope and got to earn it through my behavior, work

and professionalism. It taught me about the reality of life where nothing can be achieve without

hard work.

8. Academic versus Experimental Learning

People always told me that there is huge difference between academic learning and experimental

learning. I believed that but after joining Dhaka Bank, I found that the workings/jobs here are more

or less relevant to my academic learning. I had to deal with different executives and needed to give

them the best services as well as understood their psychologies. All of the things I learned from my

academic courses. I had to deal with my supervisors and co-workers professionally and needed to

maintain the organizational behavior with all of the staffs of Dhaka Bank Ltd. and these things I

taught in my Management courses like MGT 321 (Organizational Behavior) & MGT 489

(Strategic Management). Besides, I needed to maintain the Bank management law & Contracts

provided by Bangladesh Bank which I have learned in my courses ACT 322 (Taxation) & LAW

200 (Business Law). Besides, I did the Personal & Tele marketing to the crucial executives and

communicated with different branches which I taught in my BUS 251 (Business communication)

courses.

I have mentioned earlier that academic learning and experimental learning are more or less similar

but it’s not the same. In real world in many cases I have to use my common sense rather than my

academic learning. But, if our university offered any courses related to Credit Finance & Credit

Analysis, then it will helpful for me to understand all of the terms of credit operation. Another thing

is that, we learnt so many theories in the Management & Marketing courses which were not

practiced in my office. In few cases Dhaka Bank set some own rules and regulation and followed

their own strategy.

9. Influence of Internship on My Career Plan

My internship at Dhaka Bank Limited has greatly influenced my career plans in terms of knowing

which field of work I want to pursue in the future. I had to plan working in the Banking sector when

I entered into NSU but I have an alternative plan too. I have already set my plans while selecting

major in Finance and minor in Economics which I have acquired practical knowledge in a very

smooth way at DBL. As my expectation and experience matched perfectly enough it was sufficient

for me to ensure my career path.

After conducting internship under Dhaka Bank Limited., my career plans what I used to dream in

my academic life was totally matched. Starting my profession life form a bank has shaped a lot

of my perception about banking jobs. Just before the intern I used to think as the best jobs for

any fresh graduate can only be working with MNC’s. Currently I hold the perception that MNC

definitely boosts a fresh graduate’s career but it is not the only sector which can gear up my

career, Bank also plays a vital role in the stability of economy as well as person’s life. Thus now

I consider being a banker is not that bad at all. There are many arguments behind it. Some

explanations might be-

Bank is the most secure working place as there is very less change of de-recruitment.

It offers a handsome amount of salary and basic allowances.

Scope of promotion on reputed designation for excellent performance

The working hour is very flexible.

Opportunity to communicate with people of different class and background.

10. What I Would Have Done Differently If I Redo the Internship

If I had the opportunity to redo my internship there are many things would do differently-

Firstly, having trust in my eligibility would want to do my internship form better organizations

that have more experience in banking line. Although it has been an honor to work with an

organization like Dhaka Bank Limited but it was a very small unit. Working in large

organizations provides very good scope to achieve better knowledge and experience. Hence by

working in a large reorganization I would have had the opportunity to provide more creative

input. There would also be a better chance of being retained in the organization as a permanent

employee.

Secondly, I would also like to keep my confidence level high from the first day of the internship.

So that I can bring a change in my behavior that whenever I was wrongly treated I could defend

that. In most cases I was given the valueless jobs to do, which not only used to hurt my feelings

but also questioned the academic knowledge and result I have achieved. The valueless works

also used to risk the extent of knowledge I was missing to learn.

Lastly, I would also like to redo my selection of the division. It is a very small division. Thus it

restricts the level of networking I could have made if would have been selected for a better & big

branch but other division. Conducting from big division would have not only enhanced the nest

of networking that I could have made with different departments and types of people, but also

would have helped me acquire knowledge form more sectors in large quantity.

11. Recommendations

I had a practical exposure in Dhaka Bank Limited (DBL). For just three months, with my little

experiences in the bank in comparison with vast and complex banking system, it is not so easy to

recommend some suggestion to enhance the performance level of the organization. I have

observed some shortcomings regarding credit operation (Online CIB) and other aspects of their

banking system. On the basis of my observation I would like to present the following

recommendations:

1. Changing services Charge: DBL should change their existing service charge of CIB

inquiry and other products for attracting new customers and also maintain their existing

customers.

2. Proper organizing: DBL server is not properly organized; DBL should increase

swiftness of their Server. Even some computers are attracting with various types of virus.

So, they should use active antivirus.

3. Increasing employees: Total number of employees in CIB operation is not enough for

continuing that section activities; so, DBL should increase number of employees into the

CIB Online.

4. Appoint skilled employee: Employees should be skilled in operating technology. If the

entire person will be skilled, no person depends on other specific person for operating to

perform the transaction.

5. Updating Software: DBL use 2nd generation software which is much backdated. They

should update their software for better performance.

6. Increasing cabinet: Due to the shortage of cabinet they have store more file in single

cabinet, so organization should be needed to increase cabinet to store file.

Dhaka Bank Limited has emerged itself as one of the most disciplined and promising banks in

the commercial banking sector in Bangladesh under the active supervision of its competent

management team led. In this competitive market Dhaka Bank Limited competes not only with

the others commercial banks but also with the public Bank sector banks and has been able to

throw in more positive contributing towards economic development of Bangladesh as compared

to other banks.

Along with all other division, credit Division of Dhaka Bank has a very qualified and dedicated

group of officers and staffs who are always trying to provide the best service to the clients. For

the future planning and the successful operation in achieving its prime goal in this competitive

market, maintaining CIB status is really very important. Thus this can be helpful in local and

foreign trade financing that suggested for the betterment of country Online CIB is a great leap in

the way of digitalization of Bangladesh Bank, Dhaka Bank Limited is on the right track for the

betterment of its own health as well as for delivering better service to its clients.

Dhaka Bank Limited does offer a real practical orientation to the new comers with typical

corporate culture. This three months internship orientation with Dhaka Bank Limited

undoubtedly will help me a lot to understand and cope with any future typical corporate culture.

As a leading bank, to the gateway to practical professional life, an experience of working here as

an intern was a privilege for me.

Weekly Journal- 1

(1st -4th JUNE, 2015)I was assigned CPC Credit operations, Corporate Office of Dhaka Bank Limited (DBL) to

complete my internship program. When I joined in the bank, the Head of Credit Operation Mr.

Mir Saidul Islam appoint a supervisor as per the internship policy. The name of my supervisor is

Razee-Ul-Ameen and he is a senior principal officer and coordinator of CIB (Credit Information

Bureau). He shortly briefs me about the department as well as their activities. Then he introduces

me with others of the department and I got few silly questions about myself like about my

educational institution, future carrier etc. As I was new in corporate culture, the environment

seems not usual to me. Anyway, just come to the point and it’s about my activities and lessoning.

At the very beginning my supervisor asked me to about how to photocopy a page and he got a

negative reply from me. But I am little disappointed about this question and little bit worry about

it. I think that maybe I have to photocopy the page throughout the day but I was wrong. Even I

didn’t need to photocopy a single page in the first week. But I learn how to photocopy a page. In

the first week my supervisor suggests me to look over the whole department and not to assist any

particular activities. Even I was not got any permanent desk though there is a desk and a

computer for an intern. I usually look out the activities of the department and ask them if I have

query regarding anything and I got a very friendly and cooperative voice from everyone. Though

this was my first week, I got that this division is not all about working. There is a lot of fun

required and everyone is boost up by this. It is notable that at the last day of the whole

department including me got a treat from the newly appointed DMD Shakir Amin.

Weekly Journal- 2

(7th -11th JUNE, 2015)The beginning of the second week did not work in a good way. I was late in the first day of

second week and my supervisor is little bit rush on me and I could not take it instantly and

feeling bad. But letter on he talks me as like nothing was happening in the early morning. He

gave me some motivational speech and gave me a short direction how to cope with the corporate

culture. In the second day of the week I was appointed for the credit information Bureau (CIB)

and got a permanent desk and computer. CIB is basically found out the previous history of the

client and his guarantor who is applying for loan. The branch send the hard copy and soft copy of

CIB inquiry form and other supporting documents like photocopy of voter id card, TIN etc. I

checked the document and match with the required information. If anything mismatch I inform

the branch over the phone and ordered them to resend the document. Though I got computer but

my computer was having some technical difficulties. I could not work properly. For this I

worked only manual work like check the hard copy of CIB form & note down the name and

branch of the hard copy of loan clients in registered outward. At the last day of the week my

supervisor discuss me about the deferent type of loans like consumer loans, CC loans etc as I had

query about it.

Weekly Journal- 3

(14th -18th JUNE, 2015)On my third, week I feel very comfortable with the bank’s working environment and feel much

confident to work. The technical problem of the computer is solved by the IT at the very first day

of the 3rd week. So, I can use the computer without any problem, My supervisor assign some

Microsoft excel work and I have done that without knowing anything, I had done the work

properly and he is pleased by my performance (Excel work) but when he ask me about what I

have done and why this is required for the bank, I couldn’t answer properly. Then he gives a real

lesson of life. He told me to do the thing with proper knowledge about it and never works to

please others try to work for pleased you. From the second day of this week I got a few fixed

works on a daily basis. I have to put the name of the CIB client and its branch to a selective

folder and it’s called Hardlog. I have to update Logfile on a daily basis. Logfile is basically an

own term of Dhaka bank where they record how many PDF is downloaded against a particular

client. Based on the PDF, the credit division impose charge to the branch and branch impose

charge to the client. As this is the last week before Ramadan, there is a new look to the office

environment and the management provide a Ramadan schedule to the every employee

(21st -25th JUNE, 2015)The fourth week starts with new working hour due to Ramadan and its 9 am to 4 pm. The

working environment is totally changed and everyone is too much concern to their activities due

to reducing working hours. I was appointed to for new activities. My supervisor told me to send

an email through windows outlook to every branch about the monthly CIB statement. As I was

not well aware about how to use windows outlook, my supervisor shows the way how to use it.

On the following day he told me to call the every branch for feedback the email that means told

them to send us the monthly CIB statement. When I call to the every branch, I got a new

experience. Some branches are reply positively and some are not but I explore that it enriches my

communication skill. It is notable that at the very last day of this week I got a call from the Head

of the division and I was little bit surprised to call from him. He asked me the overall scenario

and how I feel to the corporate culture. He also ensures any kind of help related to my academic

side. His assurance gives me a lot of confidence and I feel much comfort to this division then

before.

Weekly Journal- 5

(28th JUNE-02nd JULY, 2015)This is the last week of June and as it is the quarter and half yearly ending, there is a heavy

workload in this week. The workload of CIB unit is not too much but the load of overall credit

operation division is too much. The transaction unit of this division is passing a very busy week.

Because of their heavy workload I have worked there three days of this week. This unit basically

disburses the loan and before that they checked all the supporting information or data like CIB

report. CRM analysis matches with loan issuing people or company. I have just checked the file

and if find any mismatch, I inform to the others. I have also work few excel work in this unit. I

have just input data to the excel sheet and filter it. The efficiency of my excel work helps a lot to

do the job. Along with this, I have to call every branch to make sure to send few statements. It is

notable that, there is Iftar party along with dinner is arranged by the division and this gives a

little bit relief as everyone is pressurized by the heavy workload

(5th -9th JULY, 2015)The first week of the new month starts with lots of confusion because i am not sure about where

I have to work. I stay at transaction or back to the CIB. My confusion flies away at the very first

day of the week and I come back to the CIB. I was little bit happy to come back to the CIB

because I feel comfort to work here. After confirmation, I started working at CIB and my

supervisor thoroughly discuss about the CIB report that we download from Bangladesh Bank. He

also briefly discuss about the loan status. There are basically two category of loan status-

Classified & Unclassified. Under classified loan there is also some subsection. He also informed

that the loan status is basically changed after two month and the CIB report is invalid after two

month. I also follow how the CIB report is generated because I get that within very short time I

have to generate CIB report. When I look at the CIB, I found that it is very easy to find out the

loan defaulter and basically a financial institution take a decision of issuing loan based on the

CIB report. For this, everyone is very careful to download the CIB report from BB.

Weekly Journal- 7

(12th -16th JULY, 2015)This week stars with much comfort as it is the last week before the EID. Everyone along with me

is concern about how to manage the Eid vacation because the employee who celebrate EId

outside Dhaka get two day except public holiday. So everyone is busy to manage the holiday

because most of all is go outside Dhaka to celebrate Eid with their family. The work load of this

week is very low so that everyone is relax and even the number of CIB request is declined

dramatically. In this week I call every branch to send the Classified Loan (CL) statement along

with that I exchange the Eid greetings and it is a nice experience to me. Besides, as there is no

pressure of work, I can ask question frequently to everyone about the banking sector to others

along with my supervisor. On the last working day before Eid, we get a Eid Greetings card from

the Dhaka Bank. It is notable that on Monday we, the CIB unit go to an Iftar in a restaurant

which was prescheduled by the supervisor and it really a pleasant memory for me because I

never go out for a group to the restaurant except my family and friends

(19th -23rd JULY, 2015)This is the first week after Eid vacation and the office environment is still festive. At the very

first day after vacation everyone exchange Eid greetings to each other. The workload of this

week is still not to much. As a result I freely asked question to everyone. As I have interest the

banking profession, I asked them about their professional life. Whom I asked, everyone shared

their experience of this sector but everyone suggest to develop skill like MS word, excel etc. At

the last two day of the week, I work in the loan disbursement section of credit operation. This

section basically disburses the loan after checking all the criteria like CIB report, CRM report

etc. I have just check the CIB report and note down the borrowers status. Besides I have known

about how the loan is disbursed. Consider to project loan, it disbursed in different steps and

based on working progress. In this week the interest rate of different types of loans are reduced

and e are informed by a circular. When we see the hard copy of the circular, I found that the

interest rate of each and every loan is reduced by 1 % to 2%. But in most cases, the interest rate

is same and there is no floor and ceiling like the previous one

(26th -30th JULY, 2015)The office is starting to get back its natural look and the workload is increasing gradually. Even

the number of CIB inquiry is also increased. In this week, for the first time I had done the CIB

inquiry because the CIB cell is not capable to take the pressure of heavy workload and could not

done it on time. For this, my supervisor permit me to done the CIB inquiry but first of all he

suggest his subordinate to let me know the procedure of inquiry. When I see the inquiry, it is

little bit confusing for me. But later on when I started work, It’s not that much confusing.

Basically three types of CIB like individual, proprietorship and company are required to do and

as I am an intern, I only do the individual because its little bit easier and not confusing as well.

When I started to do the CIB inquiry, I try to understand the PDF file that I download from the

BB website. This PDF is nothing but a full credit history of a person. By justifying this PDF, the

branch easily can get a broad idea about the borrower. Along with that in this week I have done

few excel work about rescheduling loan and I have got a brief idea about the rescheduling loan.

At the later part of the week my supervisor takes a short interview and discuss about the overall

performance. Along with that, he shares his little real life experience in banking sector and gives

me some motivational speech.

Weekly Journal- 10

(2nd – 6th August, 2015)This is the first week of a new month and this is the last month of my internship program. The

office environment is too good that I could not understand how the last two month has gone

away. But as the time progress, I feel much comfort and feel free to ask any query and get a very

good response from others. But in this week everyone has to take extra stress because the

internal audit is going on in the credit operation division and I was with the audit team and try to

help them. I found that there is little mismatch everywhere but it’s very hard to find out in the

naked eyes. During this week I make a list of the officer who works in this division more than

three years. Because BB has a rule that no one is working in the same division in the same

branch or division but when I make the list I found that this rule is not followed strictly. As this

is the first week of a month, I call to the each and every branches of Dhaka Bank and ask to send

few monthly statements like CIB, Undrawn portion etc. It’s notable that in this week I went to

Bangladesh Bank with my supervisor and its very pleasant experience for me

(16th -20th August, 2015)

This week starts with new experience. At the very first day of the week, the second man of credit

operation called me and asked me the academic record. I was surprised and scared when i knew

that he called me but later on I found him as a very helpful person. He asked me the overall

environment of the office. Even he consults me about my future carrier and what should I do to

become a good banker. He shared his real life experience when he was in this stage. After

completing a fruitful conversation, I got much confidence and I think his advice will help in my

professional carrier. The following day he came to my desk and discussed about few skills and

showed how this skill is important in banking sector. In this week I found that everyone become

very friendly and very helpful too. In this week the internal audit team has done his task and

everyone become relaxed. I also back to my traditional unit and started the work that I had done

before. I called to the few branches because they were not yet send their CL report. Though it

was not my task but my supervisor told me to do it for my good communication skill. In this

week i also learn a simple but important thing and it’s how to scan a copy. It was a very simple

task and I got it at a first glance.

Weekly Journal- 12

(23rd -27th August, 2015)

This was my last week in Dhaka Bank as an intern. Almost redo every work I did for last 3

months. As this is the last week as an intern I was too much relaxed than other weeks but I was

not in good mode because it was not an easy task to leave such a wonderful working

environment and helpful co-workers. My supervisor appreciates my performance and

contribution to the organization. It was a great honor for me. I learned a lot, developed so many

new skills & knowledge, learned about corporate banking culture, met with some really good &

helpful peoples as co-workers. This internship period really helped me to gain practical

knowledge about banking and this experience will help me in my long career path. But at the end

when the time becomes closer and closer, I was become too much emotional and I couldn’t

control myself at the very last day. It’s notable that there is a farewell party arranged party for

me that rally surprised me.
