Football and travel go hand in hand…my journeys have taken me around the globe following the misfortunes of Scotland…for me, it all began in Lisbon on a cold wet night...it was a World Cup qualifier against Portugal…we lost 5-0 and Ally McCoist broke his leg…I ran out of money...well the budget was flight, bevy, food and accommodation…food and accommodation were sacrificed…Sleeping on the street under a Saltire in the aftermath of the game was quite a baptism of fire but it set me up nicely for future action watching the boys in blue…the icing on the cake was the pilot, having banked to the right over the Stadium of Light, announcing over the tannoy that if you looked closely you could still see where Dave McPherson had slipped for the 2nd goal. I am sure many of you have personal stories of your own….here’s hoping the boys from the Big Apple go home witih something to tell…

Final game on Saturday (and final pool game) was against Kashan. The winner would finish in the top two and thereby go into the ‘Cup’ competition. Fortunately Doug convertedinthesuddendeathroundfollowedbyourkeepersavingtheshotfromBU. We were into the semi-final where we faced ISCI (from Jakarta).
It is fair to say that ISCI had probably pushed the envelope significantly more than wehadthepreviousnight(iewedidnottakeourownfratstylebeerfunneltothetournament). We ended up winning the semi-final 2-0.
This took us to the final where we were up against Cavalry (from our original pool). As it turned out Air India and Kashan (also from our pool) had made the final of theCup.
In the final, Cavalry were still faster and more agile than us, and unfortunately this timetheyendedupwinning1-0.

ClubvsHongKongYouthMonday7thDecember(50-18)
Hong Kong Football Club prides itself on the fact that we have a youthful Club team as compared to previous years. However that means nothing when you are faced with the Hong Kong Youth Team! Due to a few of the Club ‘youth’ players either participating (or supporting) the Phuket Triathlon we only had six Club players with two key players recovering from injuries. We pulled up Emma from Typhoons and had no spare legs on the sideline. Experience (and some red faces) however beat Youth with a respectable end score of 50-18. Many players were playing out of position and did
the team proud, in particular, Stacey McLocklan in the pivotal C position and Dee hutt who as WA was chosen as both coach’s player and player’s player. We now look forward to the five week break. When we are back on court in January, two Club team members will be married ladies as Stacey McLocklan and Cat Taylor are getting married in New Zealand over the Christmas/New Year period. Congratulations to you both (and your partners of course). On the subject of congratulations, Clare Chapman did us proud in the Phuket Tri coming first in her age category and Anna Clinton third – amazing effort girls.
