The actual LASIK procedure takes about 5 minutes per eye. Mostpeople will feel a sensation of pressure during the procedure, butbecause the eyes are numbed with eye drops before surgery, mostpatients do not experience any pain.
How long is LASIK recovery?
Even though some patients begin seeing better immediately afterthe procedure, you will need to have someone drive you home aftersurgery. For the remainder of the day you should plan to rest athome. Most patients wake up the next day with clear vision and areable to return to work within 24-48 hours after their LASIK procedure.
Are there any risks with undergoing LASIK surgery?
Like any surgery, there are risks to LASIK. When performed by anexperienced LASIK surgeon using advanced technologies, those riskswill be greatly minimized. You should, however, be aware of some ofthe potential complications. Your doctor will review the risks, benefitsand alternatives to LASIK surgery during your consultation.
Will I ever need glasses after LASIK?
Maybe. LASIK is a procedure that changes the shape of the cornea toallow light to focus properly on the retina. However, as you age, thenatural lens in your eye may start to lose flexibility. This is calledpresbyopia and it occurs to most people around the age of 45. With aloss in flexibility, you may not be able to read close-up and may needreading glasses for daily tasks. Monovision treatment may be anoption for patients wishing to reduce their dependency on readingglasses after surgery. Monovision is where one eye is corrected fordistance vision and one eye is corrected for close-up vision. Your eyedoctor can determine if this is an appropriate option for you duringyour consultation.

Can anyone who wears glasses have LASIK? Unfortunately no. Some people do not have the correct eye anatomyand eye health for LASIK. The only way to know if LASIK is right foryour eyes is to be evaluated by a LASIK surgeon.
