2 SAP Global Trade Services Overview
2.1 Introduction to SAP Global Trade Services
The available business scenarios for import and export of this solution can run across one or several of
these product areas. In the section for a particular product area, you find all the information that is
relevant for the technical implementation of this product area. SAP Global Trade Services 10.1 consists
of the following product areas:
■ Compliance Management
This area ensures that you can adhere to the complex international regulation in the following
areas:
● Sanctioned party list screening
● License management for import and export controls including reexport processes and ITAR
regulations
● Embargo checks
● Hazardous goods checks
■ Customs Management
This area, you can use for cooperation with customs authorities. The main focus is the
implementation of electronic shipping and customs procedures. It comprises the following areas:
● Customs communication services for imports, exports, and special customs procedures,
including electronic communication and trade document services
● Duty calculation
● Product classification
■ Trade Preference Processing
This area supports you in using the advantages of preferential trade agreements or providing the
necessary prerequisites to your customers for your competitive advantage.
■ Letter of Credit Processing
This area helps you to meet your contractual obligations and mitigate financial risks.
■ Restitution Handling
This area supports you in applying for refunds for exports of common agricultural products (CAP).
■ Electronic Compliance Reporting
This area supports you in providing Intrastat declarations to the authorities.
You can use SAP Global Trade Services as enterprise-wide, centralized application that enables your
company to comply with worldwide trade regulations, communicate electronically with customs
authorities and manage information that is relevant to foreign trade. It provides reporting features,

especially for audits, that enable you to handle changing import and export requirements and controls.
The solution is designed to be integrated with multiple SAP and non-SAP systems in a heterogeneous
environment. It can be implemented without changing your existing logistics processes.
2.2 Software Units of SAP Global Trade Services
2.2.1 Application Components
This section can provide information about the most important software components of SAP Global
Trade Services.
■ SLL-LEG 901
This component provides the technological prerequisites for complying with worldwide trade
regulations, managing information that is relevant for compliant processes for business
transactions and in foreign trade. This is, for example, when interacting with customs agencies,
producing international shipping documentation, such as commercial invoices, entry summaries,
and pre-clearance notifications, as well as mitigating financial and legal risks in the world of global
trade.
■ SLL-PI 900_*
You can connect SAP Global Trade Services to SAP ERP systems starting at the release of SAP R/3
4.6C using standard interfaces. The plug-in SLL_PI 900_* provides all the technical functions
required for communicating with SAP Global Trade Services and integrating the processes.
For the system connection and integration into the logistics processes in SAP ERP you need to
install the plug-in SLL_PI. For the SAP ERP 6.0, for example, you need SLL_PI 900_600. This plug-
in contains all functionality for the system connection with one or more SAP ERP systems as feeder
systems. You can also connect it to several SAP ERP systems of different releases without any
technical problems.
NOTE
You can also connect SAP Global Trade Services with feeder systems using standard interfaces
for the communication. These can be SAP ERP systems, any other SAP systems or non-SAP
systems.
2.2.2 Technology Components
■ SAP NetWeaver components
SAP enhancement package 3 for SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (SAP NetWeaver 7.0 EhP3) provides the
technological foundation for SAP Global Trade Services 10.1. The ABAP stack of this technological
platform is, in a sense, the operating system of SAP Global Trade Services 10.1. The JAVA Stack can
be required for special functions in the individual product areas of SAP Global Trade Services or

for running the delivered user roles in SAP NetWeaver Portal as stated in the Software Component
Matrix as well as in the System Landscape information.
■ UI Technology
SAP Global Trade Services supports different technology to use its features and run its business
processes. All UI technologies support the standard roles that SAP Global Trade Services provides
or that you can administer by using transaction code PFCG.
However, the features for sanctioned party list screening in Compliance Management are available
in two environments: the SAP GUI-based features that were already available in previous releases
are continued in this new release, and newly developed features that are solely based on Web user
interfaces (Web-UI). In addition, the Web-UI-based maintenance of long-term vendor declarations
in preference processing that can be used for to automate the maintenance of vendor declarations
through direct data input of suppliers is only available in the Web-UI.
● SAP GUI
You can use the latest release of the SAP GUI software (such as SAP GUI 7.2) with all previous
SAP component releases. As a result, older SAP systems can also benefit from the features that
are only available in the newer SAP GUI releases. The features of sanctioned party list screening
and preference processing that are Web-UI-based, cannot be displayed by SAP GUI.
● SAP NetWeaver Business Client (NWBC)
The NWBC as a new, desktop-based SAP integration platform provides end users with a
seamless integration of classic SAP GUI-based transactions and new applications developed in
Web Dynpro. It allows consumption of application content, and tasks directly from the
backend systems by using standard roles that you can define using transaction code PFCG. You
can therefore use this technology to run all features of SAP Global Trade Services with this
technology.
For more information about the NWBC, see SAP Library for SAP NetWeaver at http://

You can access all features of SAP Global Trade Services in SAP NetWeaver Portal by generating
content for SAP NetWeaver Portal from the standard roles that is delivered by SAP or adjusted
by you using transaction code PFCG.

NOTE
For the feature of SAP Global Trade Services that are provided only in Web-UI, you must use
either NWBC or SAP NetWeaver Portal.
2.3 System Landscape
SAP Global Trade Services runs on SAP NetWeaver technology. This tried and tested, reliable platform
provides scalability and the support of numerous language and country versions. At the same time, it
provides a Web-based infrastructure that can be connected to any application with open Internet
standards.
For scenarios that can be integrated with logistics processes in feeder systems, the following landscape
options are possible with SAP Global Trade Services:
■ Installation of SAP Global Trade Services on a separate system
■ Installation of SAP Global Trade Services on the same operating system/database system of another
SAP solution, for example, SAP ERP. Then, SAP Global Trade Services must run in a separate client.
CAUTION
We strongly recommend that you use a minimal system landscape for test and demo purposes
only. For performance, scalability, high availability, and security reasons, do not use a minimal
system landscape as your production landscape.

2 SAP Global Trade Services Overview
2.3 System Landscape
14/42 PUBLIC 2012-06-15
When integrating SAP Global Trade Services 10.1 in your system landscape, it requires the following
software components:
■ SLL-LEG 901 (SAP Global Trade Services 10.1)
■ SAP_AP 7.00 (SAP Application Platform), SP26 or higher
With SLL-LEG 901 being an add-on to SAP NetWeaver, the following dependencies to SAP NetWeaver
apply and must be installed as basis for running SAP Global Trade Services 10.1:
■ SAP NetWeaver 7.3 including enhancement package 1: ABAP Stack
The ABAP Stack requires the following software components and releases:
● SAP ABA 7.31 (Cross-Application Component), SP03 or higher
● SAP Basis 7.31 (SAP Basis Component), SP03 or higher
● SAP_BW 7.31 (SAP NetWeaver BI), SP03 or higher
● PI_BASIS 7.31 SP03 or higher
■ SAP NetWeaver 7.31 including enhancement package 1: Java Stack
The Java stack does not necessarily require SAP NetWeaver 7.31 (http://help.sap.com/nw731) but
also runs under SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (http://help.sap.com/nw70).
In addition, you can use the logistics processes in SAP ERP as trigger for the business scenarios in SAP
Global Trade Services and can implement controls of logistics processes based on activities in SAP Global
Trade Services. For the process integration with SAP ERP, you must install the following software
component:
■ SLL_PI 900_* in the version for your SAP ERP release.
SAP Global Trade Services provides plug-ins for the following SAP ERP releases:
SAP ERP release Plug-In Version
SAP R/3 4.6C SLL_PI 900_46C (SP11+)
SAP R/3 4.7 SLL_PI 900_470 (SP11+)

the system connection between SAP ERP and SAP Global Trade Services. All features of GTS 10.1
are available as of plug-in version SP11 or later.
There are no technical dependencies between upgrades of SLL_PI and SAP Global Trade Services.
If you are installing SAP Global Trade Services with an earlier release version than the release
version of your plug-in version, you can still only use the plug-in functions for the SAP Global

Trade Services release to which the plug-in version corresponds although you might have a more
current version of SAP Global Trade Services installed. They are always described in the
corresponding product documentation for the SAP Global Trade Services of the installation release.
You can use the available standard interfaces to connect SAP Global Trade Services to one or more
SAP ERP systems as well as with other SAP solutions such as SAP Supplier Relationship
Management (SAP SRM). You can also run SAP Global Trade Services in heterogeneous system
landscapes because it can be connected to non-SAP systems. For using transportation data in
addition to logistics processes in SAP ERP for running processes in Customs — and Compliance
Management, you can connect SAP Transportation Management with SAP Global Trade Services
by using enterprise SOA.

RECOMMENDATION
SAP NetWeaver TREX is relevant only for the area of Compliance Management, and is
optional. However, we recommend that you use the SAP NetWeaver TREX for Sanctioned
Party List Screening of Compliance Management in SAP Global Trade Services. The search
mechanisms use standardized features and algorithms for searching terms and compare list
entities.
■ SAP NetWeaver Business Intelligence (SAP NetWeaver BI) Content
If you want to analyze your cross-border trade in SAP NetWeaver BI, you need specific content for
SAP Global Trade Services in addition to the usage type activation for BI of SAP NetWeaver.
■ Converter Software (e.g. Seeburger BIS)
If you use Customs Management and want to communicate electronically with Customs
authorities, you need a converter software that maps the standard messages of Customs

worklist using the initial transfer in the feeder system.
3.1 Compliance Management
Description
The product area of Compliance Management enables companies to work in compliance with legal
requirements and regulations. By streamlining the extended supply chain, Compliance Management
automates the complicated regulatory compliance process, which is a crucial factor for successful global
trade activities. To comply with legal requirements, Compliance Management checks and screens
master and transactional data from the logistics processes of the feeder system through integration
between the feeder system and SAP Global Trade Services. This minimizes the risk of penalties and

fines, maximizes your company’s return on global sourcing and selling initiatives, and increases your
overall competitiveness by improving customer satisfaction.
NOTE
All relevant features to perform Sanctioned Party List Screening are available in a SAP-GUI-based
technology . The same features are also available with an enhanced information design in Web
UIs. You can choose which version of the information architecture and UI technology you would
like to use.
3.2 Customs Management
Description
The product area of Customs Management enables companies to adhere to standardized processes. By
streamlining import and export processes through automated IT-based customs processes by the
Customs authorities, companies can expedite the cross-border trade activities in a global market. The
application supports automated customs processes that can be country-specific such as automated
export or import systems of authorities or the European New Computerized Transit System (NCTS).
By using SAP Global Trade Services for the automated systems, companies can use the production of
international shipping documentation. This includes commercial invoices, entry summaries, and pre-
clearance notifications. The overall result is an acceleration of cross-border trading and avoidance of
shipment delays.
With the main focus on the implementation of electronic transit and customs procedures, Customs
Management facilitates imports and exports as well as communication and printing. The documents
for transit and customs procedures can be based on master and transaction data from a feeder system
through integration of logistics processes in the feeder system and the processes of Customs
Management. The customs communication service enables you to connect to customs offices to
execute customs declarations at the border or inland by communicating electronically and printing
required forms.
Customs Management allows you to use regular customs procedures as well as inventory-managed
customs procedures, for example customs warehousing, outward and inward processing. As for the
customs warehouse and outward processing procedure, this also includes customs inventory
management. Customs warehousing and its inventory management are based on the logistics
integration with a feeder system. Customs duty calculation supports complicated calculations of duties
and value added tax based on goods value and additional costs, for example transportation or insurance.
Product classification assigns the appropriate classification numbers to imported and exported
materials.
In addition to customs procedures, you can also monitor movements of excise goods and comply to
the standards that the authorities set for electronic communication and securing the movements.
3 SAP Global Trade Services Business Scenarios
3.2 Customs Management

3.3 Preference Processing
Description
Preference Processing supports companies in indicating goods for preferential tariff treatment that can
mean reduced or zero rates of customs duty. It assists in determining whether all the prerequisites for
preferential customs duty rates have been fulfilled. This determination is based on transaction and
master data from the logistics system that can be used in Preference Processing through process
integration between SAP Global Trade Services and the feeder system.
Preference Processing includes the following requirements for preference processing:
■ Defining preference agreements
■ Managing preference rules
■ Managing inbound and outbound long-term vendor declarations, including requesting and
sending reminders to vendors about vendor declarations and maintaining the declarations in the
system
■ Preference determination for regular and configurable bill of materials, including extensive logs
■ Providing statement on preferential eligibility for goods based on vendor declarations and bill of
materials
■ Issuing vendor declarations for goods to Customs with preferential eligibility and revoking vendor
declarations if the preferential status changed
■ Printing preferential documents such as certificates of origin or goods movements certificates valid
as preference certificate
Proving preferential eligibility of goods with Preference Processing enables the exporter to obtain a
competitive advantage over other exporters. This reduces the overall price of goods for customers who
import the goods.
RECOMMENDATION
For the upgrade using the business scenario Preference Processing, we recommend that you
process the worklist of long-term vendor declaration for customers' purposes before you upgrade
from SAP Global Trade Services release 7.0 or higher to release 10.1. If necessary, you can
restructure the worklist using the initial transfer in the feeder system.
3.4 Letter of Credit Management
Description
Letter of Credit processing allows you more control over shipping dates and receipt of documents for
legal control purposes. It supports importers and exporters in mitigating financial risks by trading
globally. You can incorporate this service in your export transactions to minimize risks and expedite
transactions in international trade. It allows you to gain more control over shipping dates and receipt
of documents for legal control purposes.
The following features are available to minimize risk in import transactions:
3 SAP Global Trade Services Business Scenarios
3.3 Preference Processing
2012-06-15 PUBLIC 27/42
■ You can maintain letters of credit that you receive from banks in the letter of credit master data.
■ You can enter all the relevant shipping and document dates in the letter of credit. You can do this
by using the letter of credit attributes. Each attribute can be specified individually. Based on the
attribute settings either the single or the multiple assignment of attributes is possible.
■ You can assign letters of credit to export transaction documents due to the outbound logistics
integration.
■ The system recognizes that your import business partner is relevant to the Letter of Credit
processing and you are required to assign a letter of credit to that business partner.
■ You can create bank master data by transferring the data initially from your feeder system to SAP
Global Trade Services and enhancing it in the business partner maintenance transaction.
■ You can monitor the status of your letters of credit.
■ One user reviews the letter of credit and a second user is required to activate the letter of credit.
■ You can print documents in a manner that complies with the stipulations in a letter of credit.
3.5 Restitution Handling
Description
Restitution Handling enables exporters to map the restitution process simply and efficiently to the
standard export process while mitigating financial and legal risks. The export processes can be based
on logistics data from a feeder system through integrated processes.
Monitoring and controlling functions enable exporters to keep track of all their business transactions
and cooperate with the customs authorities in a legally compliant manner. Restitution Handling allows
exporters to manage export licenses, securities, manufacturer’s recipes, and restitution calculations
based on the normal export process.
3.6 Electronic Compliance Reporting
Description
Electronic Compliance Reporting application enables companies to create Intrastat declarations either
manually or based on document data from the logistic systems. The product area of electronic
compliance reporting ensures that the Intrastat declarations fulfill the requirements of the statistical
authorities
Authorities in the European Union require statistical information on trade between member states for
internal trade statistics, which companies can provide by using SAP Global Trade Services. With
Electronic Compliance Reporting, Intrastat declarations can be edited and a file of the Intrastat
declaration can be created in the required format.
