Profile:

Sree Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences (SNIMS)is the first Medical College of Gurudeva Charitable Trust (GCT)

founded by a group of Philanthropic followers of Sree Narayana Guru, the great saint and social reformer of Kerala.

The goal of the institution is to provide top class medical education and quality health care at affordable cost.

The location of SNIMS is 14 kms away from Nedumabassary Cochin International Airport in between national

highways NH 47 and NH 17 at Chalakka Spread over 46 acres, away from the noisy congested city.

The Academic Block Accommodate the pre-clinical and paramedical departments, students labs, museums, lecture

halls with audio visual amenities, examination halls, central library, digital library, 24 hours internet connection large

conference hall, auditorium etc. the 500 bed hospital offers a range of clinical specialties, super specialties and

emergency services.

SNIMS campus provides 100% separate bath attached hostel facilities for boys and girls in addition to in- house

accommodation to faculty members. It also has well-toned playground, well equipped GYMs to keep students

physically fit.

1. INTRODUCTION

1.1 This Prospectus relates to admission to MBBS Course for the Academic Year 2016 - 17 in Sree Narayana Institute

of Medical Sciences, Chalakka.

1.2 The Prospectus contains rules and regulations for admission for selection and admission to all seats of MBBS

course for the academic year 2016 -17.

1.3 The conditions in this prospectus is subject to modification / addition / deletion, as may be deemed necessary by

the management and will be subject to further orders, if any, passed by appropriate authorities / courts of law.

1.4 Applicants are required to go through the prospectus carefully and familiarize themselves with all relevant

information. They are also encouraged to visit the official website of the college i.e. www.snims.org for more

details.

2. CRITERIA OF ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION & SELECTION SCHEDULE

2.1. Nationality: - Applicants must be Citizens of India

2.2. Qualification:-

a. Candidates who have passed Higher Secondary Examination of the Board of Higher Secondary

Education, Kerala or examinations recognised equivalent thereto, with 50% marks in

Biology/Biotechnology separately, and 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and

Biology/Biotechnology put together, are eligible. In the absence of Biology, Biotechnology will be

considered as a subject for academic eligibility. SC/ST/OBC candidates shall be eligible for

relaxation in minimum marks as per the norms prescribed by the Medical Council of India (MCI).

b. Rounding off of the percentage of marks to the nearest whole number is not permitted.

c. Candidates who have not passed their qualifying exam from the Board of Higher Secondary

Education, Kerala, CBSE or ICSE shall provide an equivalency certificate obtained from the

concerned university.

d. In order to seek admission, the candidate must be eligible in the merit list of the NEET Entrance

Examinations 2016 for admission to M.B.B.S/B.D.S courses and the Candidates must be eligible as

per the norms prescribed by the MCI.

e. Applicants should possess certificate of good conduct and character issued from the institution

last studied.

f. In view of the Indian Medical Council (Amendment) Ordinance No.4 of 2016, G.O. (Rt) No. 2463/

2016/H&FWD dated 01.09.2016 and the consensual agreement signed on 03.09.2016 between

SNIMS Medical College and the Govt. of Kerala, Commissioner for Entrance Examinations will

allot students to 50% Govt. Merit Quota seats in Private Self-financing professional colleges on

the basis of merit from the list of students who have qualified themselves in Kerala Engineering

Agriculture Medical Entrance Examination 2016 (KEAM 2016) in accordance with merit and

complying with the principles of reservations in Government Colleges.

2.3. Age:-

Applicants should have completed 17 years of age on 31st December, 2016. No relaxation in age will

be allowed.

3. HOW TO APPLY

a. The Prospectus and the Application Form for MBBS are available in the official website of the

medical college www.snims.org .The duly filled downloaded application should be submitted

along with application fee in the form of DD for Rs.2,000 in favour of principal, Sree Narayana

Institute of Medical Science.

b. Note: Application Fee is non-refundable.

3.2. The application shall be submitted as detailed below:

a. Completed application with all the required certificates / documents shall be submitted to the

College Office in person before the stipulated time and date. The college will not accept any

application after the stipulated time and date.

b. Applicants shall obtain acknowledgement from the College office for the applications submitted in

person.

c. Mere submission of application ‘online’ will not complete the procedure and will not be

considered at all. Printout of the online application with required documents and application

fees received on time only would be considered.

d. Applications without attachments of required documents or without the uploaded photograph

and signature will be rejected.

3.3. Documents attested by a Gazetted Officer required to be submitted along with application

a. Copy of relevant page of School records namely SSLC / ISC / CBSE or equivalent certificate showing the date of birth should be furnished as proof of age.

b. Copy of Mark list and Pass Certificate of the qualifying examination (Plus Two / 12th Standard). c. Nativity Certificate, if applicable d. Self-addressed stamped envelope (12 x 25 cms size) with Indian Postal stamps worth Rs.10/-

affixed thereon. e. Eligibility / equivalency certificate obtained from the Kerala University of Health Sciences by

applicants who have passed the qualifying examination from Boards other than the State of Kerala / CBSE / ISCE.

f. Course and conduct certificate from the Institution last attended. g. Copy of Mark list (Result) of the NEET Entrance Examinations 2016. h. Copy of Admit Card of NEET 2016 i. Copy of Certificates / documents as a proof for claiming admission under reservation category j. Copy of Certificate in proof of SEBC/SC/ST status obtained from the Tahsildar / Village Officer /

Authorities concerned. k. Undertaking for Bank Guarantee (Annexure I)

For NRI Quota, the following additional documents are to be submitted:

a. Copy of the employment certificate from the employer or if self-employed, a statement duly attested by the Indian embassy.

b. Copy of the relevant pages of the passport containing visa details. c. Certificate issued by a scheduled bank stating that he/she is a Non-Resident Indian holding an NRI

account other than a zero balance account. d. An affidavit/declaration (Annexure II) by the NRI relative/Sponsor e. Certificate from the Village officer / revenue authorities to prove the relationship between the

As the number of seats in the NRI category is limited, the applications are carefully scrutinized to assess eligibility and the relative merit of the applicants before being selected for admission. Once accepted, the applicant will be notified regarding their status. All the selected applicants will have to pay the tuition fees and other annual fees on or before the date specified.

Note: All certificates/documents submitted by the applicants shall be attested by a Gazetted officer. Application not accompanied by documents in proof of claims made therein will be summarily rejected without further intimation. Documents / Certificates furnished after submission of the application will not be entertained under any circumstances. Incorporating any details or documents after the submission of application will not be entertained. Late and incomplete applications will be rejected. Applicants are instructed NOT TO ENCLOSE ANY ORIGINAL CERTIFICATES along with the application. The management shall not be responsible for any postal / courier correspondence.

4. SEATS ALLOCATION & PROCEDURE OF SELECTION

The annual intake is 100 MBBS Students. The seat matrix is as follows:

4.1. 50% of total seats in the SNIMS Medical College, Chalakka will be filled up by the Educational

Agency as allotted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE) from the list of candidates

who have qualified in the Kerala Engineering Agriculture Medical Entrance Examination 2016 (KEAM

2016), in accordance with merit and reservation principles followed by Government from time to

time.

4.2. The College shall admit and fill up 30% Management Quota seats (i.e., 30 seats out of 100 seats) on

the basis of inter-se merit of the eligible applications based on the ranking in the NEET Entrance

Examinations 2016. The college will have the right to apportion the seats within this 30%, to various

categories or within the community or denominations thereof, based on inter se merit.

4.3. The Educational Agency is entitled to fill up 15% seats of the total seats in the Non-Resident Indian

category (NRI) by admitting NEET Qualified students who are children/dependents of Non Resident

Indians, as per the conditions stipulated in GO(MS)No.34/2013/H&FWD dated 05.02.2013 and

GO(MS)No.243/2014/H&FWD dated 06.08.2014.

4.4. As relevant reservation rules of the Govt. of Kerala are being applied to the 50% Govt. Merit Quota

Seats, reservation principles will not be applicable to the balance 50% Seats in Management and NRI

Quota.

4.5. As the college had already notified admission procedure vide Notification dated 24th August 2016, all

the applications received based on this notification will be compiled along with new applications

and rank list will be prepared.

4.6. 10% of the management quota (5 seats out of 50) will be allotted to the dependents of Trustees &

Management and the Dependents of Staff/Employees of the sponsored Trust /Societies etc. of the

Educational Agency and the Educational Agency shall be entitled to fill up these seats from among

the NEET qualified applications received by the Agency irrespective of their rank.

a. Children of Staff – This category will be allotted on the basis of inter-se merit to applicants who

are children of the Trustees / staff of the institutions of Sree Narayana Institute of Medical

Science.

b. The candidates who secure admission in seats set apart for Children of Staff shall serve the

institution for a minimum period of one year after the successful completion of the course. The

unfilled seats in this category will be reverted to management quota.

4.7. To be eligible to apply for admission to MBBS courses in the Management and NRI Quota seats, the

candidate should have secured a minimum of marks at 50th percentile in National Eligibility-Cum-

Entrance Test to MBBS Courses held for this academic year (NEET-2016).

4.8. However, the criteria of eligibility in NEET 2016 in respect of candidates belonging to Scheduled

Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, the minimum of marks to be obtained by the

candidates shall be at 40th percentile and in respect of candidates with locomotory disability of lower

limbs, the minimum of marks to be secured shall be at 45th percentile.

4.9. Furnishing of false information / particulars would result in the forfeiture of the candidature as well as

cancellation of admission to the course if admitted and in addition, will attract the relevant provisions

of criminal law of the land.

4.10. The details of all applications received including marks, etc. will be published on the website of

the College. Applicants are directed to verify the details and notify entry mistakes, if any within the

stipulated date. All genuine mistakes would be corrected. No further requests for changes will be

entertained.

4.11. Thereafter, merit list of the different categories will be published on the website of the college.

Selection will be strictly be in the order of merit. Selected applicants will not be intimated by post.

Therefore, the applicants are advised to refer to the website of the college and appear for the

interview and final selection at the college without fail.

4.12. The date of commencement of the Course and the last date of admission process will be as per

the time schedule fixed by the Admission Supervisory Committee / Government of India / Medical

Council of India / Supreme Court of India.

4.13. The Dean or Head of the Institution/Management shall submit the list of candidates along with

documents/certificates before the Admission Supervisory Committee as and when called for.

5. ADMISSION

5.1. The Management will have the right to deny admission to any applicant, if it is found that their

character and antecedents are found to be questionable on genuine grounds. In such cases, the

reasons for the same will be recorded and communicated to the student concerned.

5.2. Applicants are advised to visit the website of the college www.snims.org regularly for announcements

and instructions, and to appear for admission as notified therein. No separate communication will be

sent in this connection.

5.3. Selected applicants shall take admission at the appointed time and date in the college after paying the

tuition fee and other fees, failing which the offer of admission will stand cancelled. Applicants who get

allotment shall appear before the principal of the College and take admission at the appointed time

and date and remit admission, tuition and other fees for the first year. They shall also produce the

following documents in original at the time of admission before the Dean of the College:

a. SSLC/10th Standard Certificate b. Admit card of the NEET-2016. c. Result/Score Card of the NEET-2016. d. Mark list at the qualifying examination (Plus Two / 12th Standard). e. Pass Certificate of the applicant at the qualifying examination. f. Document (School Record viz: SSLC or equivalent) of the applicant to prove his/ her date of birth. g. Eligibility/equivalency certificate obtained from the Kerala University of Health Sciences by

applicants who have passed the qualifying examination from boards other than the State of Kerala / CBSE / ISCE.

h. A Physical Fitness Certificate (format given) obtained from a Medical Officer in Government Service not below the rank of Assistant Medical Officer.

i. Course and conduct certificate from the institution last attended. j. Transfer certificate (TC) from the institution last attended. k. Originals of other certificates, the copies of which are enclosed with the application form. l. Document/ certificate required in proof of any reservation / benefit claimed in the application

form. m. Bank guarantee from nationalized/scheduled bank only are accepted for the amount of tuition

fee to be paid for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th year of the course. (format given) n. Undertaking for Anti-Ragging (format given) o. Migration Certificate, if applicable. p. Any other document/ certificate required to be produced. q. Ten passport size photographs of the applicant.

Note: Applicants will not be given any extension of time to produce the original documents/certificates and payment of fees and submission of bank guarantee. Two sets of photocopies of all the documents / certificates listed above (Clause 5.3) attested by a Gazetted officer also has to be submitted at the time of admission.

5.4. Cancellation of admission/Refund of Fees

a. No request for refund of fees received within a period of fifteen days prior to the date of closure

of admission to the MBBS course fixed by the Medical Council of India will be entertained. Refund

of fees will be applicable only to students who leave the College on or before fifteen days prior to

the last date for closing of admission for MBBS fixed by the Medical Council of India. In such cases,

the refund will be made within thirty days of the receipt of request thereof.

b. If any applicant discontinues the course or leaves the Institution within a period of Fifteen days

before the closing of admission in the 1st year or discontinues the course/leaves the institution in

the subsequent years, he/she is liable to pay the fees for the remaining years i.e. fees for the

whole course. In such cases, Transfer Certificate and other certificates will be issued only after

payment of all dues including the fees for the remaining years.

c. In addition to the above, such students will have to pay tuition, hostel, mess and other fees

proportionately for the period they remained on the rolls of the college. For the purpose of

calculations of proportionate recovery, part of a month will be considered as a full month.

6. FEES

6.1. Annual Tuition Fee will be Rs.11,00,000/- (Rupees Eleven Lakhs Only) for Management Quota seats

and Rs.15,00,000/- (Rupees Fifteen Lakhs Only) for NRI Quota seats.

6.2. In addition to this, applicants need to pay an amount not exceeding one year’s Tuition Fee as interest

free deposit at the time of admission. It shall be refunded at the end of the course without interest.

6.3. Each student selected for admission as mentioned in caluse 4.2 & 4.3 shall remit the said amount as

mentioned in clauses 6.1 & 6.2 for the first year of the course and produce a bank guarantee from

Nationalized bank / Scheduled bank for an amount covering the fee for the remaining four years ie for

the entire course of study. The Educational agency is entitled to refuse admission to those candidates

who fail to submit / furnish Bank Guarantee at the time of admission.

6.4. Apart from the Tuition fee, applicants will have to pay caution deposit, fees payable to the

Universities, Government, Medical Council of India, examination conducting charges, transportation

charges, establishment charges, extracurricular, other statutory charges, etc.

6.5. Annual tuition fees and other fees should be paid on or before 1st August of every year for 5 years.

Late payments will attract penalty.

6.6. Fee once paid will not be refunded.

6.7. The selected candidates at the time of admission shall remit the fees for the first year of the course

fixed by the College and the interest free refundable deposit and submit a Bank Guarantee for

covering the tuition fee for the remaining years of the MBBS Course. No concession or exemption

from payment of fee and deposit and submission of Bank Guarantee will be granted to the

applicants.

6.8. All fee payable at the time of admission shall be paid by way of DD favouring SNIMS Medical College,

payable at Ernakulam.

6.9. All students, including the SC/ST/OBC candidates, will have to pay the same fee as shown in this

prospectus.

7.2. Details of allotment will be put on the official Website of the College, www.snims.org in due course.

Selected applicants will not be intimated individually. Therefore, the applicants are advised to refer to

the website of the college and appear for the interview and final selection at the college without fail.

Those candidates who fail to appear for the interview/counselling at the scheduled date and time will

be removed from the selection list without any further intimation.

8. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

8.1. Duration of the Course is 4½ years with a compulsory rotating internship of 12 months.

8.2. According to the Kerala Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1998, ‘ragging’ means doing of any act by disorderly

conduct to a student of an educational institution, which causes or is likely to cause physical or

psychological harm or raising apprehension or shame or embarrassment to that student and includes

teasing or abusing or playing practical jokes or causing hurt to such students or asking a student to do

any act or to perform something which such student will not in the ordinary course be willing to do.

In case, the applicant for admission is found to have indulged in ragging in the past or if it is noticed

later that he/ she indulged in ragging, admission may be refused or he/ she shall be expelled from the

educational institution.

Each of the student of the institution and his/ her parents, or guardian are required to submit a

combined undertaking at the time of registration/ admission in a prescribed format which is

mandatory for registration/ admission. Such an undertaking shall be submitted before the

commencement of every academic year. An undertaking similar to the above shall be submitted every

year by the student who is admitted to the hostel.

8.3. All applicants who are selected for admission should get themselves vaccinated against Hepatitis

(A+B), Chicken pox, MMR before admission. A certificate to this effect will have to be produced at the

time of admission/before commencement of the course.

8.4. All the selected students are expected to abide by the rules & regulations of the Institution without

fail. Students are expected to observe absolute discipline in their conduct during the entire period

they spend in the institution. Failure to observe absolute discipline will invite appropriate action.

8.5. Students should wear Aprons / prescribed uniform with name plate appropriately displayed during

working hours. Casual wears are not permitted to be worn inside the hospital / college.

8.6. Mobile Phones are not permitted in the academic areas and hospital.

8.7. Minimum 80% attendance in each academic year is compulsory (Separate for Theory and Practical).

8.8. Smoking, illicit drugs and alcoholic drinks are totally prohibited and failure to observe the rules will

invite severe disciplinary action including suspension/termination.

admission to MBBS course 2016-2017, at SNIMS Medical College, for the second among us. We are

aware of the amount of annual tuition fee for MBBS at SNIMS Medical College and we do hereby

undertake to remit at the time of admission, the said annual tuition fee and other fees and also

interest free refundable deposit, as may be prescribed by the college and we seek admission only on

Also we undertake to obtain and submit irrevocable bank guarantee at the time of admission from a

nationalized / scheduled bank only for payment of the amount of tuition fee for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and
