PROJECT

The New Mexico Department ofTransportat ion has been redoingseveral sect ions of I -25 inphases, with the I -25/Montgomery Interchangebeing the next piece to thatpuzzle. The interchange getscongested on a dai ly basis . Afteryears of asking the federalgovernment for money to f ix i t ,NMDOT said i t f inal ly had thefunding to make big changes tohelp traff ic f low. Bids for the$55 mil l ion project wi l l go out insummer 2020, with construct ionstart ing in late 2020 or early2021.

Staff f rom mult iple arms of theNMDOT were brought in toconduct a study to determinedif ferent alternatives forredesigning the interchangeusing a wide range of Autodesksoftware that included Civi l 3D,InfraWorks and NavisWorks, a l lsuppl ied by their Autodeskresel ler , ATG. Next steps cal ledfor bui lding a new model f romthe study results .    

Rob Bigelow, ATG InfrastructureIndustry Special ist , conducted asix-day Infraworks trainingworkshop. NMDOT staff involved

in this project decided to ut i l izeInfraworks as a prel iminary andfinal design 3D model tool . Thef irst three days were dedicatedto fundamentals training withthe f inal three days dedicated tocustom workf low training for theI-25/Montgomery project . Robworked closely with JeremySalazar of the NMDOT to create amodel of the intersect ion and al lof the corr idors within Civi l 3D.Col laboratively, they workedtogether in the c loud,integrat ing and uploading newchanges from Civi l 3d intoInfraWorks.

The NMDOT conducted this studyto document ex ist ing def ic ienciesand future condit ions within theNorth I -25 corr idor in Albuquerque,New Mexico and to ident i fyimprovement strategies to addressdesign-year t ransportat ion needs.

ATG provided NMDOT with tra iningto ut i l ize Infraworks through al lstages of the project and transformthe Civ i l 3D model into animmersive 3D model with v ideos,render ings and a v i r tual real i tyexper ience.
