documents used for recruitments and why they are used.

When Tesco are looking to recruit for on the shop floors or behind the tillsfirstly they will look at their talent plan.

Talent Plan

Tesco will look at this to fill in a vacancy. It’s a process that lists current employees looking for a move on the same level or promotion. If theycan’t find suitable people they will then advertise.

Advertising

Tesco will advertise the vacancy in newspapers, web adverts, Google, radio and on their website. The recruitment process will be fast as Tesco don’t look for high qualifications.

Job description

A job description will tell a potential employee their main duties. When Tesco advertise the job they will need to include a job description. This job description will set out:

The title of the job To whom the job holder is responsible For whom the job holder is responsible Simple description of roles and responsibility

Tesco will use this job description to make it easier for them to be able tofind the right employee.

Person specification

A person specification sets out the skills, characteristics and attributes that a person needs to do a particular job. Together, the job description and person specification provide the basis for the job advertisement. They will help Tesco and job applicants to what is expected from them. As they are sent to anyone for jobs, they should;

Contain enough information to attract suitable people Act as a checking device to make sure that applicants with the right

skills are chosen for interview Set the targets and standards for job performance

Job descriptions and person specifications show how a job holder fits into the business. They help Tesco be able to hire the right people.

Example of Tesco’s job description and person specification;

CV

A CV is a brief description of a person’s career. They are used to explain to recruiters what people can do and have done.

If a potential worker is interested in the advert they will hand their CV in, in the store that is recruiting. Tesco will look carefully at each applicants CV summaries candidates education and job history. A well-writtenand positive CV helps to assess whether applicants match the person specification.

A CV will include;

Personal statement Contact details Qualifications and skills Interests and hobbies Previous experience of work

Application Letter

This is a document that is sent with the CV to provide extra information. Tesco use application letters to be able to screen applicants for available jobs and to determine which candidates they would like to interview. A coverletter would give detailed information of why the candidate is suitable for the current vacancy in Tesco also it would explain a person’s interest in the company.

Interview and Assessment center

Applicants who’s CVs have met the job description and person specification will be invited for an interview, this is where the employer will get a first-hand look at what kind of person have applied for the role and if theywill suit it. Tesco can decide after the first interview who they want to hire, after the first interview they will be invited for a second interview with the top applicants. Successful candidates will go to the assessment center which takes place in store, this helps Tesco provide consistently in selection progress, the candidates could be given various exercises including team work and problem solving. Also they may be given self-assessments to test their English and Math.

Contract

Whoever gets the job will be given a contract. All employees have an employment contract with their employers. This contract is an agreement which sets out;

Employment conditions Rights Responsibilities Duties

All employers must stick with this contract until it ends.
