BECOME A MEMBER OF THE WINNING FAMILY!
In 2017, the most successful motorsport season for ŠKODA, the ŠKODA FABIA R5 drove from victory to victory. The close-to-standard rally car from Mladá Boleslav not only carried ŠKODA factory drivers Pontus Tidemand/Jonas Andersson (SWE/SWE) to first place overall in the WRC 2 category of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC), but also a number of privateer drivers to regional and national championships. Thereby the ŠKODA FABIA R5 was the most successful rally car in its category by a long stretch. “Win on Sunday, sell on Monday”, the legendary marketing strategy behind motorsport, perfectly worked for the ŠKODA FABIA R5. Since the car’s competition debut in 2015 ŠKODA Motorsport sold more than 200 units in total.
Among the regional and national championships won in 2017, the FIA Asia-Pacific Rally Championship (APRC) stands out in particular. It was held in New Zealand, Australia, Japan and Malaysia as well as in India. Gaurav Gill/Stéphane Prévot (IND/BEL) of the factory supported team MRF ŠKODA beat their Norwegian teammates Ole Christian Veiby/Stig Rune Skjaermœn to the title. On the other side of the globe Gustavo Saba/Fernando Mussano (PRY/ARG) won the FIA South American Rally Championship (CODASUR). Meanwhile, Manvir Baryan Singh/Drew Sturrock (KEN/GB) took the FIA African Rally Championship (ARC).
On national level ŠKODA factory driver and co-driver Jan Kopecký/Pavel Dresler were followed by 13 private teams winning their country’s national titles. The success story was written on stages as far apart as Latvia, where 2018 ŠKODA factory driver Kalle Rovanperä, despite being only 17 years old, was crowned champion, and Paraguay. A number of the drivers competing in a privately entered ŠKODA FABIA R5 defended last year’s title. To be continued in 2018.

WHAT’S NEW IN 2018?
ŠKODA FABIA R5 gets an engine upgrade for this season! As we intend to remain on the top rankings, our technicians and engineers are permanently working on improvement of the car. The latest enhancement has considerable impact on the engine. Specifically, we prepared an optimization in the field of fuel mixture preparation and subsequent combustion, and in the area of passive friction reduction. In addition, the engine control software was optimized to allow a faster response of the engine to throttle. The increase in engine performance is in total approx. 5 kW of average power (depending on the used fuel) compared to the previous version! This upgrade is available for the previous specification of ŠKODA FABIA R5 as well.
The newly developed engine specification will also increase engine revision interval (from 2 000 km to 3 000 km), leading to reduced engine running costs per 1 km.
The enhancements of engine are further complemented by a modification of the front axle connecting rod. Its design improves the resistance to damage from impact.
The package also brings savings in total weight of the car. At the same time, combined with the engine in the new specification, with the right setting it is possible to accelerate the car in competitive conditions!
For further details please contact our sales department!
ŠKODA Motorsport moved to new premises Year 2018 brings a lot of news not only for our customers but for ŠKODA Motorsport itself as well!
After many happy years spent inside the ŠKODA AUTO compound, we moved to our own premises in the second half of February. The premises are just few kilometers away from our former location and set a higher standard to our services. Besides other things it includes a bigger workshop and also a showroom and meeting rooms dedicated exclusively to our customers. Most importantly, all of our staff will be under one roof leading to even more effective cooperation.
If you are planning a trip to the Czech Republic, please feel free to stop by and say hello, we will be happy to welcome you and show you around!
